JULY 12: Jordan’s deal with the Nuggets is now official, the team announced.
JUNE 30: The Nuggets are signing DeAndre Jordan to back up two-time MVP Nikola Jokic at center, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
A source tells Mike Singer of The Denver Post (Twitter link) that Jordan will be signing a one-year contract worth the veteran’s minimum.
Jordan, who will turn 34 later this month, began the 2021/22 season on a minimum-salary contract with the Lakers. However, he was waived by Los Angeles in February and caught on with the Sixers for the rest of the season. In total, he appeared in 48 games for the two clubs, averaging 4.3 PPG and 5.5 RPG in 13.0 minutes per contest.
Jordan will no longer rank among the NBA’s leading rebounders and blocks like he did in his prime, but the Nuggets apparently believe he still has something left in the tank after an up-and-down ’21/22 campaign.
Why the hell? Cousins is def better than him and a better fit
Who’s to say maybe Cousins didn’t want to resign?
Looks like Cousins is getting a raise somewhere else. He was fantastic with the Nuggets.
WHY?!?!?!? DO THE PEOPLE RUNNING THE NUGGETS WATCH BASKETBALL?!?!?!?
Tim Connelly leaves and the team Falls apart.
Wasn’t a huge fan of Connelly either. Lucky pick with Jokic, Murray was the only option at 7 when the nugs picked him and no one knows if Porter will ever be healthy. He also kept resigning Barton, lost Grant, and traded Harris (our only guard who could play D) for Gordon
Maxing out Porter before he was a restricted free agent and overpaying Gordon were bone head moves by Connelly
Not a huge fan of a guy who made the Nuggets a yearly contender? Alright. So a good pick made by him is “luck” and a bad pick means… “this dude sucks and can’t evaluate talent” or what?
Sounds like you’ll never be pleased.
Booth has been better.
Cousins said he wants to be the #1 center. Forget already?
He’s getting the minimum, I would hope they go after someone else too
Do they have a cart to carry him up and down the court?
Amen.
Thank God he is out of Philly
What about Boogie? He really fit in on that team.
Might get paid somewhere else
For the last 3 years every time I’ve seen DeAndre Jordan play, he looked awful. I think this a terrible signing. I’d rather an undrafted rookie. The Nuggets bench was awful last year before Boogie arrived and it looks worse this year. That bench couldn’t defend the paint or rebound and was very stagnant on offense. They need an actual good player on their bench beyond a talented second year rookie. So far this offseason they’ve shed JaMychal/Monte/Barton 33 million in exchange for KCP/Ish/Jordan 21 million. If the owner doesn’t want to pay, he should trade the MVP. Fans from all over the USA are watching and this $uck$
Barton $uck$ so add that to the gains.
Say why Cousin’s sentiments should be ignored while you stick him in there in your mind.
The bench was hindered because some had to start! Hyland was a find. Davon Reed too, Cancar, and Jeff Green finally took his game into the paint.
Cousins hasn’t signed yet. Beyond I’m sure he wants to get paid, I don’t know what he’s thinking. I’m not saying his sentiments should be ignored. Not sure where you get that from? I do know that Cousins fixes the Denver bench in terms of rebounding, setting picks, scoring, being able to post up, defending/deterring shots at the rim…but he’s also probably gonna miss a bunch of games. Backup center is a top 8 position needed to win a championship and I hope Denver gets a good one. Maybe after the all star break Cousins is still a free agent and Denver has the cap room they’re not spending now and they sign him to play the last few months.
Cousins said he wants to be the starter. Maybe it’s too late for that now but that’s why Booth went in a different direction at free agency’s start. And backing up Jokic leaves no room for starting.
Im confused, Nuggets fans should have been aware of this. Am I wrong? Was that just a rumor? Muggeridge okay, but Nugsfan must be a Nugsfan and he’s in all caps about Cousins. If there’s one guy whocan’t be talked into something, it might be him.
Barton will always look good moving athletically but that’s not enough.
I have read the team was happy with Jeff Green at the 5. Seems unlikely, I recall him as a floater, so I can’t argue that point.
The bench was hindered because Monte and Jeff Green had to start. But Monte has been traded so he’s not gonna help this year’s bench. Jeff Green’s rebounding was anemic last year 4.5 rebs per 36 minutes. For his career Jeff averages half a block per 36 minutes. Jeff is not the solution at big for the Nuggets bench.
A lot of NBA players are overpaid and a bunch are underpaid too. However, Barton has been a starter on a team that has won the fifth most games in the NBA over the last 5 years. It’s pretty easy to argue that he’s been their 3rd best player over the last 5 years. I think he’s a very good player with some limitations that become apparent when he’s asked to be an all star level player. He’s getting older now and the Nuggets could use a more consistent defender at sg so I understand the desire to swap him for KCP. I’d have preferred a straight up trade of Monte for KCP. The thing about Barton is that he has been the third best shot creator behind Jokic and Murray for many years. He still would’ve been this year. Toss him the ball with 3 seconds left on the shot clock and he’s going to get a good look. Bones takes over now as 3rd best shot creator and that’s a lot of pressure on a second year player…plus taking over backup point guard duties full time. Plus the Nuggets have lost Monte who was there with Bones last year as the fourth or fifth best shot creator. That’s a lot of shot creation gone.
Is Bones going to come off the Bench with Jamal Murray’s return?
Also, the Christian Braun draft pick was solid and he should improve your Bench D. He’s feisty.
Question – is Ismael Kamagate going to play in the NBA next year or is the Plan to keep him stashed in France for another year? He would improve your Bench big man rotation.
Was hoping for someone that can defend pick&roll and protect the rim…
Also missing out on Oladipo, so the need to add someone that can defend/playmake at guard. But I like their draft picks, and they’ve finally addressed the wing, which has been an issue for a long time
Dang !!
He’s toast
He can’t run no more….why lose a roster spot?!
Obviously nuggets know he is not backing up jokic they got him for vet presence only
