Bennedict Mathurin, the sixth pick in this year’s draft, has signed with the Pacers, the team announced in a press release.
If Mathurin receives 120% of the rookie scale, which is standard, he will be paid approximately $6.59MM during his first season and $29.9MM over the four-year contract.
Mathurin, 20, rose up draft boards after a strong sophomore season at Arizona, averaging 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists and earning Pac 12 Player of the Year honors. He was a second-team All-American and was named Most Outstanding Player in the conference tournament.
The 6’6″ swingman also has international experience, helping Canada capture a bronze medal last year in the FIBA Under-19 World Cup.
I loved this pick. He’s going to be a great pro.
Don’t get why so called analysts call him a SG. I guess you can call him a wing today. But his GAME is all SF. Imo he’s a future all star. He’s a SF both ways. And can play both ways. Big time talent here.
This is his combine measurements. This is a SF …….
“ Measured at 6-foot-6 in shoes with a 205-pound frame and a 6-foot-9 wingspan at the 2022 NBA Draft Combine, Mathurin has nice size for an NBA small forward to go along with impressive speed and explosiveness.”
He can shoot, drive, play off ball, insane athlete, has great work ethic, and is fearless. The guy has it all. He was somehow left out of all the draft hype but could very well be the best player in this draft when it’s all said and done. I see him really benefiting from the extra spacing in the nba game, especially playing with a guy like Haliburton.
I know Pacers wanted Murray. I like him too. I see Mathurin as a better 2way talent. Great pick. I was preaching for the longest. For Knicks to move up to get him. Or lose in the season to drop to 7 to go for him.
He’s 6-4.5 (no shoes) with a 6-9 wingspan. That’s pretty basic for a wing or 3. He gets promoted as 6-7 but not as a guard.
Scouting said he does not defend guards well.
Mathurin is a highlight guy with funny lowlights too. Dalen Terry is the guy that set the pace at Arizona; he just did not shoot like Mathurin.
Nearby Bulls took Daley, same division, so it will be an interesting comparison.
If you watch him play. Forget what scouts say. He’s a smart player who knows his game. He has a good shot. And a good handle for a wing. He’s a thick player. Not a thin guy like Kobe. He’s more like Bron body type. That says a lot for a wing, SF. He is strong and will be hard to defend one on one. I see a big future for his talent. NBA competition will bring out best in him. Just like Halliburton got going in NBA. Once he learned to use his size. Wait till Mathurin gets it.
