The departures of Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. open up playing time for Warriors guard Moses Moody. He could have a 20-minute role as the eighth or ninth man in the rotation if all goes well, Anthony Slater of The Athletic writes.
“Try to make myself beneficial,” Moody said of his goals. “Make it to the point where if I’m getting into the game, it’s not because someone likes me. It’s not doing me a favor. I want to be needed. I want you to think ‘I need Moses on the floor.’ That’s on me. I’ve got to make that the scenario.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Moody, James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga are all showing signs of rewarding the Warriors’ patience in them during Summer League play, according to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic. Kuminga, in particular, sparkled at the end of the Warriors’ one-point win over the Spurs on Sunday, with eight points and an assist in the last four minutes as well as making defensive plays.
- Free agent Ish Wainright is hopeful of re-signing with the Suns, Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports tweets. The undrafted Wainwright appeared in 45 regular season games last season. He had his two-way contract converted into a standard end-of-the-season-deal during the waning days of the season. “Everybody knows I want to be back,” said Wainwright, who is playing Summer League games with the Suns. “It’s out of my hands.”
- Domantas Sabonis is happy with the Kings’ moves during the offseason, as he told James Boyd of the Indianap0lis Star. “We’re doing the right things,” he said. “We’ve got a coaching staff that is motivated to get us better and put us in the right direction. We made some good add-ons in free agency (signing Malik Monk and trading for Kevin Huerter), and we still have some time left, so I’m just excited.”
Sabonis is happy bc the Kings are gonna max him.
IF the Kings don’t make the playoffs with the additions of Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter, I don’t know if Domantas Sabonis will be happy with the Kings unless he gets a big pay day!
Moody may be the best of the 3. He has good defense already and a good 3 pt shot. Just needs a little more experience. Kuminga has the most talent but is so raw it might take him another year to be the to go guy.
Losing Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. to the Trail Blazers and Raptors hurts for the Warriors, but the development of Moses Moody, James Wiseman, and Jonathan Kuminga may end up making up for the losses of Payton and Porter (and other guys like Nemanja Bjelica).
Love Moses Moody. This kid is gonna be a contributor. In very few minutes in the playoffs, he showed up and played some excellent basketball when the lights shined.
Moses Moody will for sure get more minutes due to the departures of Gary Payton II, Otto Porter Jr., and Nemanja Bjelica.
Warriors need a new young superstar to win championships from 2026 to 2035
You are right. They need to Curry, Thompson, and Green for extra draft picks in the years 2025-35. It needs to be done now. If they don’t, they will finish out the playoffs until 2040.
silli is correct! lets start scoping out the local middle schools NOW….and get the jump!
That applies to every single team out there.
Wainright was good in summer league last year, but was victim to a big roster crunch in Toronto. Hes kind if in a similar situation in Phoenix with multiple players at his positions, but I think there are many teams that could use him on the wing/even at the 4
If Sacramento can keep Jeremy Lamb, that would be a big deal. If not, maybe they can add another wing option, potentially someone in summer league. Really like their potential this year, and loved the Huerter deal
I kinda like the kings roster this season.
Fox Monk Barnes Murray Sabonis
Mitchell and Hueter off the bench, with Lyles and Holmes.
Fox and Mink have chemistry together and will be good. Sabonis is always good for big stat lines. Barnes is a perfect fit next to Murray, can kind of switch spots every now and then and take the tougher assignments.
Off the bench Mitchell defence with Hunters shooting, just sounds really nice. Kyles can stretch the floor, Holmes can operate the the main big man.
I like the moves but in reality i don’t think it’ll translate to many more wins. Would be cool to see them finally make the play in or something tho.
I like their roster a lot in comparisons to last year. I think McNair is doing a pretty good job considering the mess Vlade created. Very athletic with lots of 3 point shooting. I think Huerter gets the starting nod over Monk though. If Coach Brown along with Christie can get them to play better defense, I think they at least make the play in. For Sacramento, that would be a huge success.
Ya I would have Huerter start as well, unless maybe they can keep Lamb, just b/c I dont think I would have Monk and Lamb off the bench together. If they keep him or grab another piece there, that makes them that much better
Not bad on paper, offensively. But defensively, that group, along with a mostly uninspiring coaching staff will get shredded.
That’s why Monk won’t wind up starting, despite his likability to some.
