Heat guard Tyler Herro is eligible to sign a multi-year extension this offseason, which may cause a sense of urgency within the team to trade for Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald writes.
Miami is known to covet Durant and Mitchell, both of whom would require giving up several assets in a trade. The main piece of any deal would likely be Herro, who averaged 20.7 points per game as the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year last season.
The Heat and Herro have until mid-October to reach an extension, which could be worth as much as $188MM across five seasons. A more realistic ballpark for Herro would be somewhere in the four-year, $100MM+ range. That, coupled with the poison pill provision, would make it difficult to trade Herro next season, as Chiang explores.
Here are some other notes from the Southeast:
- Hornets summer league player LiAngelo Ball remains hopeful for a true shot with the team, Roderick Boone of the Charlotte Observer writes. Ball is playing summer league with Charlotte for the second straight year. “Every little chance I get, I’ve got to come in and do everything right and play hard,” Ball said as part of a larger quote. His brothers, LaMelo and Lonzo, currently start for the Hornets and Bulls, respectively.
- Montrezl Harrell‘s court date has been pushed back until August, according to Sara Coello of the Charlotte Observer. Harrell was caught driving with three pounds of marijuana in Kentucky back in May. As Coello notes, Harrell’s offense could result in getting one-to-five years in prison, plus receiving a fine of up to $10K. Harrell finished last season with the Hornets and is now an unrestricted free agent.
- Despite receiving interest from the Warriors last summer, Bradley Beal had no interest in being traded to Golden State, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on The Dan Patrick Show (hat tip to RealGM). The Warriors ultimately won the championship, while Beal re-signed with the Wizards on a five-year, $251MM deal.
Sign in Cali
Trezl
And won’t be no problems of
Kush in the trunk!!
RJ Barrett or Herro would be somewhere in the four-year, $100MM+ range.
According to reporters, Jazz are interested in RJ and Herro
RJ Barrett and Herro have to go to third team to create the big trade value.
Edit
Jazz are not interested in Herro and RJ
Starting point is 6 first round picks
Herro, Jovic, Vincent and Strus go to third team for future Firsts
This is my all-time favorite post from you Sillivan
If the Heat can get Mitchell for those 4 players I’ll be jumping for joy!
Lowry-Mitchell-Jimmy-Martin-Bam
With Dipo-Duncan-Highsmith-Omer (not crazy bout Dedmon) and they’ll add some role players
If they stay healthy and add depth at PF watch out lol
Beal and Irving are seeking money. Money is everything.
Irving is not interested in Lakers now.
I read that Irving is not asking Nets to trade him to Lakers.
Why?
IMO
Lakers have no commitment to pay Irving 4-year Max $190 million
I’d totally forgotten about the younger Ball. Any improvement on his part? Is he NBA ready yet?
No.
And no.
This Ball is smack dab in the middle
Actually the younger Ball plays PG for Charlotte. Gelo is the middle kid
@tacocat
Oh, thanks
Only way we can look at Cha is glass half full this offseason (and not throw up)
2023 was always going to be {another} waffle year. Maybe they save some money on Bridges {if everything checks out legally} . Maybe they saved themselves if Bridges is really a Nut a year early..
Maybe they still pull a punch in whats about to be offseason part 2 here soon and relive themselves of Hayward/other unwanted salaries
Ive enjoyed watching this team the last 2 years w Ball & Co but they need to start following the map that they have {hopefully} created internally for this team. It’s been a painful last month here. The fan base could probably use any kinda future good news today; even if it means 2023 might not be as fruitful
Harrell said it was all just for personal us. He was gonna freeze it and use it a little at a time for an experiment.
I feel like every offseason the heat are rumoured to a big name guy like Beal Lillard KD etc etc
But they don’t have the assets to make a deal and keep the talent they want to keep. For example if you want Donovan Mitchell it’s going to cost you either Bam, Butler or Herro.
The only way I see them kinda improving is trading Duncan Robinson and or Kyle Lowry.
Lowry I doubt gets moved cause he’s mates with Jimmy and all those guys, he was just brought in to help and was actually really disappointing in the playoffs. If it was me I’d be moving him now while he has some value cause his deal and his age is a concern for me.
I’d be trying Lowry, Jovic and a first for Irving, that could work. I think it’s below value for Kyrie but I mean according to reports they are willing to accept Russ and a unprotected first for him.
Another one I’d try and look into would be Duncan Robinson and a first for Jonothan Issac if he’s available. Issac is someone young and could fit with Bam and Herro but replaces a lot of what Tucker have them plus he does more.
Lastly another crazy kinda idea, Lowry and Robinson for Russ and a first.
Lakers would like that Lowry is a good defender and better shooter and that Robinson also gives them another shooter or a contract they can trade in a serrated trade.
For the Heat Russ would help in the rebounding department, he gives you 150% effort all the time and that could be something they appreciate in Miami and if it fails, he goes off contract at the end of the season and you can hold off extending Herro in order to chase a big name in FA.
The only one of those I would be interested in is the Isaac one, even though I wouldnt want to give up Duncan Robonson for anything besides in a package for top players like KD, Kawhi, Paul George/other 2 way wing types. I dont think Orlando would do it, although they do have multiple players at his position that could potentially allow for them to move him, and they could use shooting at Duncan’s position, but for what Isaac could be if he is healthy, and his amazingly cheap contract, I would be very surprised
Heat have assets, but people just dont see it, and they say the same every year, yet we got Jimmy Butler with no cap space, and supposedly no assets. If the Heat send OKC some cash to open up protections on their 2025 pick, they have 3 picks to trade plus swaps, and can offer Lowry, Herro, Strus, Jovic and those picks for KD
The Mitchell rumors dont make any sense, and are only fueled by fans b/c of Wade. There is zero universe where Bam gets moved for him, or most anyone.
Lowry has 2 years left on his deal. He was great last year, and is the reason Herro and Strus were as useful as they were. He only struggled in the playoffs b/c he got injured during the playoffs. He was in way better shape last year, and is going to be in even better shape this coming season. He is still one of the best 2 way guards in the NBA, and there is nothing wrong with his deal. Only reason I might be amenable to moving him is they have Oladipo, who can cover for a lot of the things they would lose by moving him
I guarantee you Isaac will never play another game again and he will become a full time pastor.
With Bridges destroying his Free Agency pay day after a big season & maybe his career , Ball would be a good fit , will play really well along side lil bro ..
