Jaren Jackson Jr. underwent foot surgery after the season but the Grizzlies remain confident he’ll be a major contributor in 2022/23, according to Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Jackson is expected to be out four-to-six months due to a stress fracture in his right foot.
“Jaren is going to be just fine,” Grizzlies executive VP of basketball operations Zach Kleiman said. “This is not a concerning injury. Jaren’s already putting in the work to get back. We know he’s going to be even better. Not worried about Jaren. He’s going to be a big part of our group this season.”
We have more from the Southwest Division:
- The Nets reached out to the Mavericks regarding a potential Kyrie Irving trade but Dallas showed little interest, Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News tweets. Coach Jason Kidd has been emphasizing “chemistry and accountability” and Irving’s reputation would change that mantra. It would also be difficult for Dallas to put together a suitable package.
- Jakob Poeltl‘s name has been bandied about in the trade market but he may wind up staying with the Spurs, according to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com. The Spurs look at Poeltl as a stabilizing force on a rebuilding team. They were asking in the range of a rotation player and a first-round pick for Poeltl at February’s trade deadline and the price could be even higher now.
- Officially a member of the Mavericks, Christian Wood took what appeared to be a dig at the Rockets during his introduction to the Dallas media, Caplan writes. Wood is thrilled to join a perennial playoff contender. “I’m thankful I came to a good organization,” he said. Wood is entering the final year of his contract and is extension-eligible this offseason.
Hey Wood,
we’re glad to get rid of a selfish and delusional player.
Signed,
The Houston LOSERS
Mavs don’t have enough talents to trade for Irving
If anyone thinks they have, give me a trade proposal
The Mavericks seriously do not have enough assets for Kyrie Irving unless they do something incredibly unrealistic that I know for sure wouldn’t happen:
Nets Get: Luka Doncic
Mavericks Get: Irving
The Nets may even ask for a tad of draft capital, as of their extremely high prices based off the Dejounte Murray and Rudy Gobert trades.
Again, this only hypothetical and not a serious trade proposal.
Irving + what else.
Luka would net more than Durant
He’s only making $36.5 mil. The Nets would be happy to get Dinwiddie and Kleber plus whoever the Mavs don’t plan to play (they might even take underachieving Bertans, given their desire to get rid of Kymie).
With the loss of Brunson, and Irving playing for his next contract, the Mavs might actually be better off if they do it.
I trade thj bertans/(or powell) Josh green and a future 1st for irving. Idc if he’s a rental. Getting off of thj is the best thing for mavs
I wonder if Kyrie’s flat earth even has a word for “accountability”?
Dude that was actually so funny i forgot to laugh.
Past 3 years
Durant played 90 games
Irving played more games than Durant
Although missing a full year recovering from the ruptured achilles, KD played 106 games for the Nets. 16 playoff games compared to Irving’s 13.
Assuming they reached out for the Mavs to be a third team in a 3 team trade.
How long have I been saying Wood does not want to be in Houston. Should of moved him last yr. Would of got more.
Wood went to Houston on a cheap deal to play for a playoff team with Harden and then got saddled with a bunch of kids and g league guys.
Harden had already, publicly, demanded a trade when Wood signed. Houston offered more than Detroit and were more aggressive. I agree that they should have traded him last year, but it looks like Stone knows what he is doing.
Sounds like a major downplay on the Jackson injury. 4-6 months means November to January. For a big that relies on his athleticism … these injuries add up fast on a career. Not good.
C-Wood knows what a good organisation looks like, DAL is a class act… HOU not so much, as we all know, right?
Jackson is a major talent, hopefully the Grizzlies are correct and this won’t linger.
