JULY 6: The Hawks have officially traded Landale to the Suns in exchange for cash considerations, Atlanta confirmed in a press release. As we noted earlier this week, Landale’s minimum-salary contract has a small partial guarantee ($46,120).
JULY 2: The Suns will acquire Australian center Jock Landale from the Hawks, tweets Shams Charania of the Athletic. Atlanta will receive cash in return, according to Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Twitter link).
Landale, 26, was a rookie with the Spurs last season, averaging 4.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in 54 games. He was shipped to the Hawks this week as part of the Dejounte Murray trade.
Landale signed with San Antonio in 2021 after going undrafted out of St. Mary’s. He also plays internationally for Australia and won a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics.
The addition of Landale will help fill a vacancy for Phoenix, which lost back-up center JaVale McGee to the Mavericks in free agency and is exploring trade offers regarding starting center Deandre Ayton.
Not the worst replacement for back up centre now they’ve lost javale. Seemed like such a spurs player.
Monty and Chris will never have ‘internal’ problems with him.
Biyombo is their backup Center, unless Ayton is traded and a replacement isn’t part of the deal…Landale is likely just depth in case either a trade is made, or in case either Ayton or Biyombo get hurt
They needed a floor spacing big, but I feel like there were better options out there. Hopefully he can give them a lot of what they lost in Kaminsky. Jalen Smith would have been perfect…I do think it has a good chance of being ok though. If he makes a few more shots, I think he does give them a facsimile of what they had there
Goodluck Jock. You’ve landed in a great situation now, a contending team with the need for a back up centre. It’ll be between him and Biyambo but his skill set is completely different and could be handy
That partial guarantee is the kind of contract that could fit into the $118K TPE the Nets have expiring today, if it even worked that way.
Yeah!!!
I am always curious as to what the “cash considerations” are. I know in baseball, sometimes players get traded for as little as a dollar. Maybe they keep it secret so as not to publicly diminish players, But i can’t imagine Landale went for a lot of cash. Maybe just the amount of his partial guarantee.
The minimum amount required in a trade is $110K. I’d be surprised if the Hawks got more than that.
