JULY 30, 8:16am: Paschall’s two-way contract with the Timberwolves became official on Friday, per NBA.com’s transactions log.
JULY 29, 1:49pm: Paschall will be signing a two-way contract with Minnesota, according to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News and SKOR North (Twitter link). Paschall and A.J. Lawson will occupy the Wolves’ two-way slots.
JULY 29, 11:55am: The Timberwolves have reached an agreement on a one-year deal with free agent forward Eric Paschall, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
The No. 41 pick in the 2019 draft, Paschall began his NBA career with the Warriors and had an impressive rookie season in Golden State in 2019/20, averaging 14.0 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 2.1 APG in 60 games (27.6 MPG). His role declined in his second season and he was traded in the 2021 offseason to Utah, where his minutes dipped further.
In 58 appearances last season for the Jazz, the 25-year-old averaged 5.8 PPG and 1.8 RPG on .485/.370/.767 shooting in 12.7 MPG. He was eligible for restricted free agency at season’s end, but didn’t receive a qualifying offer from Utah and became unrestricted.
Terms of Paschall’s new agreement with the Wolves aren’t known, but it may resemble the deals the club completed with free agents Austin Rivers and Nathan Knight. Both received minimum-salary contracts with partial guarantees for the 2022/23 season.
Prior to reaching a deal with Paschall, Minnesota had been carrying 12 players on guaranteed contracts, two (Rivers and Knight) with partial guarantees, and one (Jaylen Nowell) on a non-guaranteed pact, so a spot on the 15-man regular season roster shouldn’t necessarily be viewed as a lock for the newcomer. The terms of Paschall’s contract should help clarify where he stands in the Wolves’ roster hierarchy.
Not the team I would have expected for him, although it does give them a small ball option that can still space the floor at the 5. They just have so many players at that spot, you would think they would being in someone to address defense a the guard spot instead
You would think he signs with a team with more playing time potential. T-wolves have a good deep team. Might be there was no other offers coming in for him. Spurs is the team that he should have gone to.
I’m a little surprised too. McDaniels and KAT do have injury history, so Paschall will work his way in the rotation for spurts of the season. He would have made a ton of sense on the Heat.
Eric Paschall is done. No way he makes the team. He can’t “choose” where to go. He actually picks up the ONLY chance he has to try out for an NBA roster this fall.
Then it’s not even a 1 year deal as a NBA player, it’s a two-way thing so he’ll be shuttled back and forth, IF he’s lucky and sticks around. I guess it’s better than Europe and tip of the cap to the man to keep on trying. But face it, he’s a 6-6 power forward who can’t shoot the three, he can’t defend, he can’t pass and he’s a turnover waiting to happen.
I mean, he is a second round pick, he is 25 years old and he has already made over 4M playing hoops. I think most people would “keep on trying” in his situation.
You’re right, I’m not saying he’s a failure. I’m just saying he won’t make an NBA roster this year unless he’s fortunate enough to have that two-way thing going back and forth. He’s good enough to be a stud in Europe or elsewhere. But the NBA is something else. You have to be amazing at something if you’re a 6-6 power forward. Paschall is amazing at what? Being Donovan Mitchell’s friend? That bought him a year in Utah. Now it’s over.
Solid sign for the T-wolves. Paschall would have been a great fit on most any team off the bench.
He’ll be in the G League November 1st, if he’s fortunate enough to not be cut all together.
Damn.Danny ainge couldn’t find a spot for a 2 way contract for Mitchell’s best friend in the league.
I’m not trusting Darren Wolfson’s (a local ABC anchor) “I heard this” Twitter reporting over Woj, who reported it as a one year contract. Waiting to see confirmation on this. I can’t remember a time when a player in his 4th NBA year signed a two way deal.
Minnesota also already has AJ Lawson and Nathan Knight on two way contracts, both freshly signed, so it doesn’t make sense from that rationale either.
Wolfson is extremely reliable. Several other Wolves reporters, including Chris Hine and Jon Krawczynski, have since confirmed it’s a two-way. Woj isn’t wrong that it’s for one year — it’s just a two-way rather than a standard contract.
Nathan Knight, incidentally, is on a standard contract.
Clearly don’t follow the wolves. Lol
Fishing nine dogs where have you been? Haven’t seen you on here in a while. Good luck to your wolves this year. They’ve stepped up and picked up big piece here and there.
Been busy playing army, ya know. Lol I’m excited for this year. Honestly probably the best roster in our history. Better make KG proud.
Paschall has fallen so much from his Warrior days. He should have listened to Kerr and coaching staff back then, and try ti fit into the system better. He just didnt make much adjustments then and last yr was a total waste. Hopefully he will fare better in MN. If not, onto China or Europe.
No need go get Jay Scrubb instead
