Jaylen Brown‘s name suddenly popped up in trade rumors as the centerpiece of a proposed deal for the Nets’ Kevin Durant. The Celtics wing offered a three-letter response of “smh” (shaking my head) on Twitter.
Quoting a source, longtime Celtics beat writer Mark Murphy (Twitter link) reports that Brown “loves it in Boston. He was two games away from a championship. He’s happy and looking forward to coming back. … Like (previous trade rumors involving) Kawhi (Leonard), AD (Anthony Davis) and others on that level, he’s going to be included in every report because of who he is.”
We have more trade chatter to pass along:
- It’s unlikely the Nets would actually deal away Durant to the Celtics for another reason, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix tweets — they’d prefer not to trade him to a chief rival.
- While the news of the Celtics’ interest in Durant seems like a new development, they’ve actually been involved in trade talks for a while, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marottaon (hat tip to Kevin Zimmerman of Arizona Sports). “I know that (reports of Boston’s interest) came out today so it’s front of mind, but from what I understand those are not fresh talks,” Windhorst said, adding that he doesn’t think the Nets are actively engaged in Durant negotiations at the moment.
- While the Lakers’ interest in Pacers center Myles Turner is genuine, they’re reluctant to sacrifice an unprotected first-rounder for him, Marc Stein reports in his latest Substack mailbag post. Turner is in his walk year and could leave the Lakers after one season in free agency next summer, barring an extension.
If Brown loves Boston! Why did he come out and say he would not sign an extension after the two remaining years left on his contract are done! He said Celtic fans did not appreciate his skills! Now he is changing his tune! I love Brown, he is my favorite player, but he did say this in public! I hope he makes a public statement saying this and that he wants to stay! If not we got to get something!
You sure are excited.
LOUD NOISES!
Start that discussion next Summer.
I hope Brown gets traded so he can get the appreciation he deserves
Ok.
that’s nonsense. Almost every celtics fan has vociferously shot down this trade rumor and wants nothing to do with KD for Brown. I’d say 90-95% have come out supporting Jaylen and don’t want him leaving the Celtics
And people said Morey had a crazy high trade price.
Morey had an unbelievably high price on Simmons. He got lucky that Harden wanted out and the Nets needed to make a push. Without both of those things lining up Simmons would still be a Sixer, at least through last season. Biggest things keeping KD in Brooklyn rn are the Gobert trade and the Murray trade. 3 picks for Murray and 4 for Gobert puts KDs value at probably 6 unprotected picks. Tought for anyone to match that value in a trade and remain competitive. Kevin Durant is quite literally too valuable to trade
I had a feeling Brown’s name being leaked in the KD trade proposal would only add fuel to the fire.
Ik kd be blowin that zaza
If Lakers want Turner, they can get Turner
Same as Hield and Irving
Or they wait a year and spend their ~$47M coming off the books with that horrendous Westbrook contract on Turner and another actual asset or 3.
It doesn’t work like that, they won’t have 47 mil in cap space in that scenario
Do you think the Celtics didn’t use their Mid Level Exception because they wanted to save that money for Durant’s contract?
It expired. Nor was it enough.
Celts used tax mid level to sign Galo
Nets angry they can’t use GSW as trade rumors now move up to the 2nd best team. Celtics say not us too. Who is next in the rumor mill Bucks or Mavs?
Damn. This feels messy. I know what KD can do. And I’d love to have him. But weren’t we just 2 games from a parade? And didn’t we just make a couple solid additions to that finals team? This just feels risky. If this is real talk and it doesn’t happen KD just muddied up his 2nd team in a month.
It sure I’d do it either. Boston already has its version of KD in Tatum and it’s that defense that sets them apart from other teams. I’d leave the roster alone and not disturb what looks like a solid team. Besides, KD and his whining is only going to disrupt what they’ve built.
@Gronk
Durant has no control of who tries to trade for him. he has no veto power.
But he could easily say that I don’t want to play for that team much like he has with Brooklyn. While he diminished leverage it’s not non existent.
If he doesn’t have veto power, then why does he have the power to demand a trade?
They’re out of their mind if they want to trade Brown who was their best player in the finals for a 34 year old injury prone sensitive egomaniac. Boston is a young team who is still very much in contention. No need to do this
If this really hurts JB feelings they he doesn’t belong in the NBA every players name comes up in trade rumors keyword “RUMORS” it’s time for him to grow up and let the past go so what fan’s booed when they drafted you other then LBJ who hasn’t been booed by fans who have no clue on who, how, or where you fit
What is Murphy even talking about? What “report” is Kawhi in?
Lol right? No one is trading for Brown to make their team better, he’s always the second best player ever in these trade rumors.
That being said, it’s a dumb trade if the Celtics go for it. You’d think they’d learn from Irving not to do this.
he’s talking about before Kawhi trade tumors before he was traded off the spurs.
I think Grant Williams will be a key piece in this deal.
Obviously the Celtics want to lose as little as possible but if you look at their roster Grant Williams could be the most valuable player that easily expendable. Firstly they have a good amount of depth at PF. Obviously if you get KD he will be the starter, but behind him you have Gallo and Horford plays there too. So it’s not like he’s essential for his position. Then secondly he’s also due for a new contract so although he’s currently only on 4 mil his new deal could be anywhere from 13-20mil and trading him while currently on his rookie deal means they don’t have to spend time negotiating with him which could lead to disagreements and him potentially leaving at the end of the season anyway. Then finally I think Brooklyn would really value him as apart of their team after a KD trade. He would be the perfect fit along side Ben Simmons because of his ability to shoot the three ball and space the floor and then on defence he’s also great. Versatility is key tho and Ben can line up at either PG or either forward spot, Brown can play either SG or SF and another Grant Williams would bring is the fact he is comfortable at either the 3 or 4 spot and at times I think could be a small ball 5.
Not only should Brooklyn be really pushing to include him in the deal but Boston should be willing to give him up as a valuable trade chip and instead keep someone who I believe is more important such as Marcus Smart.
The deal is like to see is,
KD for Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Grant Williams and 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks.
From there I’d love it if Brooklyn dealt Seth Curry, JD Davison, a first and a second for James Wiseman.
Simmons Harris Brown Grant Will and Wiseman.
Off the bench Mills White Warren ONeale and Claxton.
Very good defensively, pretty young side and will only improve. Very good depth, good amount of shooters and some experience on the bench aswell. Not to mention you’ll trade Kyrie and get even more in return. But overall you’ll be left with a strong playoff side and improving as the guys get older
Throw a swap and Pritchard in there it’s a fine competitive offer that makes sense for everyone and could possibly reach the end zone
My only worry is that Jaylen only has 2 yrs left. Makes it tricky
It makes zero sense for the celtics to make this trade
The soap opera continues.
The NBA has become a chick flick
It attained chick flick status once LeBron came on the scene.
