6:27pm: Rollins’ contract with Golden State is now official, the team announced in a press release (via Twitter).
4:35pm: The Warriors are set to sign 2022 second-round pick Ryan Rollins to a three-year rookie contract, agents Brandon Grier and Mike Silverman have informed Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
According to Charania, Rollins’ new contract is fully guaranteed through the 2023/24 NBA season and includes a “significant” partial guarantee in the third year of the deal. Charania adds that the wing would earn $4.8MM in total should the third season of the agreement become fully guaranteed — that suggests it’s a minimum-salary agreement, which would be worth precisely $4,757,344.
Anthony Slater of The Athletic tweets that Golden State will use a portion of its mid-level exception to add a third year to Rollins’ contract.
The 6’4″ shooting guard was selected with the No. 44 pick out of Toledo. This multiyear signing had been widely expected and will make Rollins the 12th player with a guaranteed salary on the Warriors’ 15-man roster. JaMychal Green is expected to become the 13th once he officially signs with the club.
Across 34 games during his 2021/22 All-MAC NCAA season, Rollins posed averages of 18.9 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 3.6 APG. He logged shooting splits of .468/.311/.802.
Rollins was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot in June, but he’s expected to be healthy this fall.
1 thing is very obvious, GSW is high on this guy
Big thoughts.
If you paid attention to the draft, you’d know almost everyone had Rollins in the first round. When GSW saw him fall, they proceeded to literally call every team trying to trade up to get him, until the Hawks bit.
Probably better than Ryan Hollins
But will he be better than Henry Rollins? That’s what we should all be tracking.
For the Salary Cap-ologists out there, the Warriors beat writer Anthony Slater mentioned that ” a small chunk” of the Tax-payer mid-level exemption was used to stretch the Contract out to a multi-year deal.
Maybe they are saving the rest of that TPMLE for Iguodala? or another Vet? Iggy hasn’t officially announced if he is Retiring or not.
They used what was leftover from the DiVincenzo signing. There is nothing left. They had to use the MLE if they want to sign him for 3 years, since the minimum salary exception limits contracts to two years.
If they sign Iguodala it will be for one year using the minimum salary exception.
Assuming Rollins gets the rookie minimum, there will be $961,219 left on the Warriors’ taxpayer MLE.
That’s not enough to sign anyone at this point, but would be enough to do a three-year contract later in the season when the minimum salary has prorated down far enough. (Though the likeliest outcome is that the rest simply won’t be used.)
Thanks, Luke. Yeah, when I said nothing left I sort of meant nothing usable, but as you point out they could use it late in the season. Seems unlikely, as you say.
If Iguodala comes back, Warriors can sign him with a veteran’s minimum contract.
I think Rollins is probably the biggest steal in the draft, if Liddell wasn’t hurt. I think he’ll probably spend most of his time in Santa Cruz, but I can see him in a rotation spot in a year or two.
Hard to call him the steal of the draft when he’s prob the most expensive 2nd rd pick from the class & as you say may not break the rotation this season. Ws gave up $2M to move up like 8 spots to take him
He was expected to go more earlier in the draft. The fact that they got at #40 is kind of a steal.
You sound SO mad by this, Rollins must be a keeper, haha you GSW haters are just lying in public now because you refuse to admit GSW beat you off the court now as well as on.
He’s better than Liddell – plus he has a position.
Liddell doesn’t have the size/skillset combination for a defined position.
GS got a steal in that Rollins woulda been a top 20 (maybe top 15) pick next year.
So many GSW haters will straight up never admit they did anything good ever. Which is weird, because they won 4 rings by never doing anything good or getting a good deal on anyone.
Like anyone who hates GSW, they only make themselves look stupid.
To get a three yr contract as a second rd pick. Niceeee Warriors must see something. Have no clue who he is.
This has been somewhat of a trend in nba this offseason – locking up 2nd rounders for 3-4 yrs.
He checks 3/4 of my boxes. The one he doesn’t check can be fixed with coaching (3ptAtt/100pos). Elite steal rate and DRB% and shot .804 from the line. A big reason the Celtics lost to GS was the 2019 draft when a player I wanted who checked all 4 boxes, was passed over twice by Dumb Danny. Romeo Langford wouldn’t have been on my board and I categorized Grant Williams as a late 2nd round pick. Meanwhile, Jordan Poole played a vital role in helping GS get off to a great start and was effective coming from the bench over the last 3 games of the Finals.
Ok, but he actually wasn’t a typical 2nd rounder, many predraft pundits had him in the first, and when GSW saw him fall out of the 1st, they kept trying all night to trade up to get him until someone bit. He’s a 1st rd talent, 100%.
But also, Draymond and Jordan Poole were 2nd rounders.
Actually, Poole was #28, low 1st round.
Read the headline as Ryan Hollins and almost had a heart attack lol
The youth movement is for real with the Warriors. Wiseman is actually one of the older member on the team or in seniority. Kuminga, Moody, Baldwin, Rollins, Santos and Poole is only 22, not to mention young 2 way players.
Bravo Myers !!
I know, I love it.
Poole’s a FA after next season. Bad timing with Klay and Green still under contract. Enjoy watching him play in 2022-23.
Except Lacob and GSW keep lobbying the NBA to change the rules to allow teams to keep+pay players they draft themselves…GSW haters are about to be straight up MISERABLE for the next DECADE, ahahaha
No team drafts better than the Warriors.
I always think about on Draft Night, everyone kept saying Moody would go top 10 and was the most NBA-ready now 19 year old in the draft, which he did actually prove by his 30 point game as a 19 year old vs the MVP Nikola Jokic. Not many 19 year olds can say they did that in the NBA, put up 30 on the reigning MVP. But Kuminga was always viewed as “too raw” and “Wiseman vibes” for the top 10.
I read many pundits saying Moody at 7 and if lucky, Kuminga will still be around at 14. GSW proceeded to get both at 7 and 14, but not in the way everyone predicted. That alone was a risky move, but one that they pulled off. Sensational drafting, can’t wait til Wiseman shows out and becomes his true Embiid 2.0 ceiling this year!
But also, GSW has had PLENTY of horrific drafts, do you already not remember the Smiley fiasco??
