Who’s the best backcourt partner for Jalen Brunson on the current Knicks roster? According to analytics expert Joseph Gill in an interview with SNY TV’s Ian Begley, Quentin Grimes is the best fit alongside the high-priced free agent acquisition. Grimes is a legitimate threat to space the floor and he doesn’t turn the ball over very often. That makes him a better pairing with Brunson’s skill set than Evan Fournier, RJ Barrett or Immanuel Quickley, in Gill’s estimation.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- What would a Jaylen Brown extension look like? Keith Smith takes a deep dive into that subject in a Spotrac article. With two years left on his current contract, the Celtics wing is eligible to sign a three-year deal this offseason. He could wait until after next season and sign a Designated Veteran Extension or after the 2023/24 season and ink a Designated Veteran contract if he meets certain criteria. He could also sign with Boston or another team as a free agent in 2024.
- Grant Williams has communicated with Brown regarding the trade rumors involving the Nets and Kevin Durant and says Brown is handling it well, Matt John of Heavy.com relays. “I feel like JB is mature in his mindset, and he knows that. I talk to him, texted him, reach out of as often as I can,” Williams said. “It’s one of those things. It’s the league. It’s a business. It’s one of those things that you can’t be discouraged by because we love JB. It also shows how valuable he is.”
- Developing even greater offensive chemistry with Joel Embiid and getting selected to the All-Star team would be aspects of a best-case scenario for Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey in 2022/23, Kyle Neubeck of Phillyvoice.com writes. Not living up to increased expectations would be part of a worst-case scenario for Maxey next season.
Worst case scenario for Maxey would be him exceeding expectations, becoming a perennial all-star, then having a rough playoff game & the media, followed ofc by “fans” turning on him, then his head coach throwing him under the bus. Thank God there’s no chance of that happening in Philly
Only if you are an idiot like ben simmons who refused to take responsibility for a horrible playoff performance would we “the well informed” philly sports fan throw a clueless player under the bus.
Hint – that wont be Maxey
Totally agree, mad max doesn’t need to worry the Sixers fans will turn on him,his coach doc rivers the one stars want to play for or joel Emvp will throw him under the bus. Mad max will take that shot, hit his charity stripe shots, not be on the bench at crunch time, won’t quit on his teammates pout when his feelings get bruised. Totally agree with you my friend.
Mad Max retired about 25yrs ago what are u talking about
That mad max is a distant memory in the minds of all sixer fans ,a brief blip in the history of this storied franchise.
Philly loves Maxey. No way they turn on him unless he becomes a jerk or turns down the intensity after gettint a big extention.
Quentin Grimes’ agent/publicist may win Most Improved Player this season. Group think is gonna elevate that boy into a $100M contract no matter what he does on the court. I struggle to see how he’s a better option than Cam Reddish. Cam is taller, longer, more athletic, better shooter, more efficient, better defensively, more experienced, has a higher ceiling & the Knicks are paying him more. I love Grimes but I also loved Allonzo Trier & Damyean Dotson. Grimes is much more comparable to those Knicks while Cam is more comparable to the Knicks wings that carried them to the Finals (Spree & Houston)
Reddish is a forward not a guard
Reddish is a wing, he can play the 2,3 or 4 but he’ll never be at the level of Houston or Spree.
The 4? Lol no. But what makes you think he’ll never be at Houston or Spree’s level? Do you see it as impossible for Grimes to reach that level too?
The 4? Lol yes. DeMar fricken DeRozan plays the 4. If you’re 6’6″ or taller and can shoot you can play the 4 in the modern game.
It will year 4 and I don’t see the signs yet if he’s going to get to Spree or Houston’s level he better hurry.
Quentin Grimes may turn into a reliable bench rotation piece some day.
Honestly I wouldn’t want any of the Knicks 2nd wing options on a contending team.
The vast majority of Cam’s pro career has been at the 2guard position. All of his starts came as a 2guard. Defensively he’s much better guarding 1s & 2s than forwards. He’s tall but if you watch him play it’s pretty easy to see he has the game of a guard
Wrong, reddish didn’t play a minute of shooting guard for the lowly Knicks and just barely, touched the number 2,most of his uninspired career. Mostly a small forward and sometime power forward reddish couldn’t crack a mediocre knick lineup.
Yet he started for a Hawks team that went to the ECF lol maybe play him at his best position & you’ll see results
I agree he’s more a three. And could use some girth and muscle. To play it well. It’s really up to Cam to show up. Knicks need players, real team players. Plus Grimes is probably gone in DM trade.
Who would you rather have? Jaylen Brown or Barrett?
If you go by progression alone Barrett at 21 is where Brown was at around age 24.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen. Better in pretty much every way. RJ is younger & could potentially because a 1st team All-NBA guy but I’ll take the sure thing. Also Jaylen plays a lil better with others. And at 21 Jaylen was leading his team to within 1gm of the Finals. RJ hasn’t come close to anything like that yet
Why would you compare them. By the successes of their respective teams. Jalen is much better right now. He’s developed into that all star wing. RJ is still trying to get there.
They’d also be getting G.Williams and White who they getting with Barrett nothing great
Every team that wants to trade with Knicks. Asks about Grimes. His future is bright. And looks much leaner this yr. Could be a breakout yr for him. He shows a tighter handle. Watch out !!!!!
Knicks have pushed RJ to be that 2Way SG. He’s really more a wing. And best as the SF. He will start next to Brunson. Grimes is not ready to start. That writer is clueless. Plus Grimes is the player Utah wants the most. (Don’t blame them either).
Donovan Mitchell will eventually be the 2 guard next to Brunson. And RJ will play the 3. I expect Grimes and Quickley to be part of trade. DM has a big wing span. So plays bigger than listed. Still we will need Mitch to have a big yr as a rim protector and rebounder. To back up our backcourt.
Brunson PG, Mitchell SG ……..
get used to it ……
Only thing i disagree Al is that Grimes isn’t ready to start. If DM trade doesn’t happen, Grimes must be our full time 2
Utah has gone to far now. To not trade Mitchell. Even if it’s not the Knicks. The rebuild works best with next yrs draft. So I expect DM to Knicks to happen (we got most picks). Just don’t want to overpay. And I pray Dolan stays away from this.
I like Grimes. But he needs a better handle. He’s better off actually developing in Utah. No pressure
Grimes was on the cusp of a starting job last season, and is certainly the best fit on the roster, skill set wise, to start alongside Brunson and Barrett on the perimeter.
Fournier and Reddish will be his competition for the spot. Nobody deciding these things cares who’s listed as SG and who’s listed as the SF. Fournier can at least shoot. Reddish is physically talented, but has been horrible across the board for 3 years. Bad optics, worse stats and even worse (horrific) metrics. But, its a new season, and he’ll get a chance to earn what he can earn. Thankfully, under Thibs, it won’t be handed to him because of HS or 2k rating (which, btw, he should be thankful for because getting minutes based on entitlement hasn’t worked for him to date in his NBA career). If its going to happen for Reddish, it has to happen soon.
That’s true about Cam. I hear you.
We need talented ballers. So he’s got a great opportunity here. I hope Thibs can get to him. But it is getting late.
