AUGUST 24: The Celtics have officially signed Caboclo, according to RealGM’s transactions log.
AUGUST 1: Free agent forward Bruno Caboclo has reached an agreement on a training camp deal with the Celtics and will get the opportunity to compete for a roster spot this fall, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
The 20th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Caboclo appeared in a total of 105 NBA regular season games across seven seasons with the Raptors, Kings, Grizzlies, and Rockets. While the Brazilian forward had tantalizing physical tools, he never put them together at the NBA level, averaging 4.2 PPG and 2.6 RPG on .403/.308/.836 shooting in 12.3 minutes per contest.
Caboclo finished the 2020/21 season in France, then returned to his home country for the ’21/22 campaign, signing with Sao Paolo FC. Caboclo, who is still just 26 years old, led the club to a BCL Americas title and earned MVP honors in the Novo Basquete Brasil, which is Brazil’s top basketball league.
Caboclo worked out for the Jazz in June and played for Utah’s Summer League teams in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas in July, but will be heading to camp with the Celtics, who still have at least a couple regular season roster spots up for grabs. Boston is currently carrying just 12 players on standard contracts, plus a pair on two-way deals.
I guess the cost of getting Brazilian KD is significantly lower than Jaylen Brown
You get lost in Brazil it might cost you an arm and a leg.
Love it.
Bruno is still 2 years away from being two years away.
“The Brazillian KD”
He’s played well in any opportunity he’s had to string more than a couple of garbage time possessions together.
I watched him with the Rockets and he hit a few from deep, hustled on D, couple of steals/blocks/deflections, moved the ball. He’s got it all together, perhaps there’s a personal thing going on, maybe a cultural aspect that doesn’t translate… Still, a long 6’9″ wing with experience should be on a roster.
The ‘2 year’ thing is 2 years away from being a star, which never came to be…
Ok he should be on a roster! Just not ours! Sign Whiteside already, he can play hard for 10-12 minutes and be motivated with a minimum deal as long as he knows he’s chasing a ring!
Lol at Whiteside and “can play hard” in the same sentence, without “when he chooses to every once in a while to chase stats.”
we don’t talk about……no..too easy. nevermind!
I could see him giving them some more depth and versatility at the 4/5 spots. They probably could use another wing option to round out their roster, but they’ve essentially done a good job of accumulating some of the depth and versatility they previously lost, and they did it mostly by opening up a bunch of roster spots and getting good value on their end of roster guys.
Thrift Store KD.
What a way to remember Bill Russell. Stevens is a clown
link to google.com if it wasn’t for you I never would have known how much Stevens looked up to russell. Thanks boo.
I remember Toronto drafted Bruno high up in 2014 & it was sort of a surprise. Drafted by highly regarded, new GM Masai Ujiri, formerly Executive of the Year in 2013 at Denver. Guess Bruno hasn’t been his best move. Saw him play a bit in Summer League. Not too impressed. But have great trust in Brad Stevens. We’ll see.
Go Celts!
