Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari suffered an injury to his left knee during today’s FIBA World Cup qualifying game, tweets international basketball writer Cesare Milanti.
Gallinari was hurt on a drive to the basket during the fourth quarter of the contest between Italy and Georgia. He underwent treatment on the sidelines, but didn’t return to the game. An MRI is scheduled for Sunday to determine the full extent of the damage (Twitter link).
Italian coach Gianmarco Pozzecco originally feared that Gallinari had suffered an ACL tear, but the team doctor examined Gallinari’s left knee ligament, which has been operated on before, and determined that it’s intact.
“I hope and I pray that nothing bad will come out,” Pozzecco said. “It was … it is an honor coaching him. I saw pain in his eyes.”
Gallinari signed a two-year, $13.3MM contract with Boston in July. The seriousness of his injury will determine whether he will be available when training camps open roughly a month from now.
If he gets hurt playing overseas, are the Celtics still liable to pay his contract? As a Cs fan… I hope not lol
He is playing the world cup, not street ball, I am sure he is covered.
I hope Gallo is ok, but if not it just means Grant Williams gets more minutes, and I like him better than Gallo at this point in their careers anywa.
Yeah except the Celtics wasted their MLE on him and wont get anyone near his talent if he is done.
That’s where the “I hope Gallo is ok” part came in.No altruism here.
At least you admit to being a selfish (insert noun here).
It’s not like the dude has cancer,
Yes.
Basketball has more injuries than Football and the season hasn’t started yet. Soft!!
Great comment. Congratulations.
He thinks guys who play ball all year instead of chilling on a beach are ‘soft”
You forgot to mention that they make millions playing ball!!
You can’t deny that todays players are more prone to injuries. Look at the dude from OKC, he hasn’t played a single game and he’s already out for the entire season. I remember back in late 80’s and 90’s when players were more physically strong and able to play 82 regular season games with no issues whatsoever.
Injuries = soft?
There are more injuries today because there is quadruple the amount of athleticism in basketball than the late 80s and early 90s.
Take a peek at Shaq’s total games played each season. Hard to find many seasons where he played in the 70s.
Less possessions leads to less running and easier to recover. This plays a part.
Dude they are softer than my TP at home
dude is always injured. Celtics can just replace him in the buyout market though
No guarantee any players will sign with them after buyouts and they used their entire MLE on him. It’s not going to be simple to just replace him if he’s out for the season.
Gallo was one of the more Overrated offseason acquisitions. Not a guy who helps you defensively. Not a guy who helps you in the playoffs. Great career. Retirement should happen now.
Gallo is done. Malcolm Brogdon???? You know his knees are made out of glass. No durability for the regular season, and definitely not for the playoffs. Don’t see this guy doing back-to-back games. He is that fragile.
Russell Westbrook’s new agent is monitoring this situation closely.
Translation: “As a Nets fan, I’m scared of the Celtics”
Celtics are cursed it seems. Dano wanted to be a Celtic hurt. Heyward want to be a Celtic hurt.
Hopefully it’s not serious and he gets better quickly. Loved him in Denver
The Bulls lucked out.
Can’t wait for the Bill Simmons tears
They still have 2 tpes 1 at 6mil. Plus 1 at 5mil. Plus
Yeah, this isn’t earth shattering.
Meniscus tear, so likely he will be back before the ASB.
Maybe back by the start of the season.
