It has been over a month since star forward Kevin Durant requested a trade out of Brooklyn, and with no indication that any deal is imminent, Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com cites a source who says a meeting between Durant and Nets owner Joe Tsai is expected to take place in the coming days.
“What I’m hearing is that KD is going to meet with the owner this week,” Bulpett’s source said. “He’s going to go directly to the owner, Joe Tsai, sometime this week. We’ll see how that works.”
Assuming that meeting takes place, it’s unclear what would come of it. It’s possible Durant wants to reiterate his request to be moved and to check in on where things stand. It’s also not out of the realm of possibility that he could back off that trade request if he gets certain assurances from Tsai and the Nets.
“I have no idea what’s going to come of that meeting,” the source told Bulpett. “There are some things that KD is unhappy about, and I’m not sure any of that gets fixed here. But maybe it does.”
The most recent solid rumor we heard related to the Durant sweepstakes surfaced last Monday, when ESPN and The Athletic reported that the Celtics had talked to the Nets about a possible deal and had been willing to include Jaylen Brown in their offer. Subsequent reporting has suggested that the offer in question was weeks old, and Bulpett says some of his sources have pushed back against the notion that it was ever really on the table.
The fact that the Celtics’ interest – and Brown’s potential availability – leaked at all didn’t sit well with some people around the NBA, one personnel executive from another club told Bulpett.
“I think there’s some teams that aren’t very happy that when they talk to Brooklyn it gets in the papers,” the executive said. “That doesn’t help. I’ve talked with a couple of teams that are not happy with the rumors that creep out of there through all this. It’s not a good way to do business.”
The exec added that he the Celtics and Nets “haven’t had any conversations for a while” and expressed skepticism that the two teams will get a deal done, according to Bulpett.
Kyrie and KD aren’t going anywhere. They’ll be there to start the season, win some games, and all will become well for awhile.
chance to stay 90%
Depend on the offers from Suns or Heat. 10%
I doubt Lakers will give Irving a max contract because Lakers have only projected $20 million salary cap 2023-24
LeBron pay cut?
Yea but they gotta wait until January silly
You heard it here first, folks! I got Sillivan confirmation!
I think LeBron’s going to save his lone pay cut to play with Bronny.
They are going to make it a one year contract with a partial guarantee on the other 3
Truth. He signed the contract, nets want to win the title and no one is giving them a deal that would allow them to do that without KD.
All the teams want to win the title, right?
Otherwise what is the point, right?
some are happy just to make a profit, or at least not embarrass themselves in making a living
Some? 22 of 30 owners is more than some.
Yes yes yes
Rudy Gobert trade may go down as the best in Brooklyn Nets history, I would like to see KD Kyrie and Ben Simmons play a normal season together
I personally think it’s pretty ridiculous that players think they have a right to demand to be traded!
You signed the contract. Fulfill it!!
I personally think it’s pretty ridiculous that owners think they can just trade you!
They signed the contract. Fulfill it!!
I mean, you got a point, but at the same time, the guys that force their way out are gonna make less down the road. Harden and Kyrie aren’t gonna get a 4 year contract from anyone ever again, and it isn’t just because of advancing age.
Same for KD. Teams don;t want players that are never happy.
If you don’t have a No Trade Clause, then you can get traded. That is in any professional sport. 99% of the players in the NBA do NOT have a no trade clause. Owners “own” the team and the “assets”. Players are assets and can be traded at any time if the owner desires. Players get the trade off of the overwhelming majority of deals being fully guaranteed. Stay out of legal trouble, and you get paid, regardless of how bad you play, or if you don’t play at all. See John Wall.
Players are people, not assets. As people they have the right to ask for a trade.
It’s part of the game and has been for a very long time. Kareem asked to be traded, Wilt forced a trade, Earl Monroe forced a trade, Barkley forced his way out. Carter, Anthony, Paul, Baron Davis, Howard, Anthony Davis, George, Leonard etc, etc all asked for trades. Hell Hakeem and Kobe asked for trades but their teams refused to acquiesce. Which is the teams right as well. Sure they all signed a contract but situations change.
The Nets made a commitment to Durant and Irving as a package deal. Now the Nets are wavering on their commitment to Kyrie. Yes Kyrie brought it upon himself and I don’t agree with his reasoning but clearly the situation has changed since Durant signed his extension.
Finally someone brings up the deeper past of player demands to be traded. Thank you Tacocat.
Agree. It has gone on forever. The stars that once did it, become nba spokesman of the game, and hush hush the past.
Although I agree its much worse now.
@Tacocat:
KD is the 1st player in league history to request a trade BEFORE a 4 year max contract had begun, so your list of the others is false equivalence.
The Nets didn’t “waver on their commitment to Kyrie”, they just refused to offer a 5 year max to a team cancer. The 2 year deal he rejected was more than fair.
Gorbet signed a contract expecting to stay in Utah same for Mitchell now. KD I think is going to give the Nets a run and show how good he is now.
I kind of agree because while KD has the right to ask for a trade it really hurts trade talks IMO. Sometimes the actions of a player really become detrimental and forces the team to get what they can
I’m not sure the bkn owners aren’t purposefully poisoning the well (i.e. leaks). Sure KD can request a trade, but if everyone is afraid to make an offer, what good is the trade demand?
Tsai’s effectiveness as an owner is in play. He has to back Marks on the trade issue (i.e., a trade has to work for the team, not just KD), and make clear that he expects KD to play under his contract if a trade doesn’t happen. If KD rescinds the request, great, but that’s not within Tsai’s control. Unqualified accommodation to KD and his buddies hasn’t worked to date; and it won’t start working now.
Everything about how the Nets have handled this so far suggests they’re basically trying to sour their own market with sky high requests and untimely leaks, ostensibly this puts the onus on KD to either rescind the request or sit out with his prime waning.
It’s possible KD just miscalculated and thought Brooklyn, just to have the entire saga complete itself, would take some $.60 on a buck Phoenix offer.
If nothing else this is an entertaining game of poker on display.
I’ve been telling you guys for weeks that KD and Kyrie were not going anywhere. When healthy, Brooklyn has the best team in the NBA. It may not even be close. Injuries ruined them last year. KD was not 100% in the playoffs. Joe Harris, who was the best 3pt shooter in NBA in 2021, was injured most of year. They have added a premium shooter in Seth Curry. Ben Simmons missed the whole year. Brooklyn does NOT need ANY offense from Ben. Adding Ben defensively along with Royce O’Neal improves Brooklyn’s defense tremendously. Play those two with Claxton. Lock down! Brooklyn is +600 to win the NBA title next year. Well worth throwing a couple of $$$ at that and waiting it out.
Meanwhile, Boston???? I think it was Brooklyn who leaked their offer. Brilliance!! Celtic players now know 100% they can’t trust management. The Celtics still have Isaiah Thomas stink on them. They were wrong for trading him for Kyrie after all he did for the franchise when they knew they were the only team who would pay him. Many players, like Anthony Davis, will NEVER consider the Celtics. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum now know that 100% can’t trust management. Damage has been done!
Meanwhile….. Boston is still better than Brooklyn. Players are in the rumor mill all the time . Some more than others obviously. Brooklyn could be a reality show. They have the cancer, the fragile ego and the fragile person in general who won’t attempt a layup in fear of missing.
Boston is overrated. They would have gotten bounced by Milwaukee if Khris Middleton had played. You do realize that Malcolm Brogdon has bad knees right??? He can’t guard anybody anymore. He can’t stay healthy for a Playoff series let alone a title run. Either can Gallinari, who is like 50 years old now. A healthy Brooklyn team takes out the Celtics in 5 games.
Ok Jay-Z
I think Tatum, Brown and Smart are not just in it for the Celtics. They got a taste of the Championship and watched GSW win.
I expect the Celtics to be all business this season.
Actually, the Nets are anywhere from +1600 to +2300 to win the title.
Obviously if KD rescinds his trade request the odds will improve, but to expect the Nets to be a legit contender after all this drama is wishful thinking exemplified.
Snooze alarm …… zzzzzz zzzzzzz
‘I want to play with Troel Embiid, make the deal happen or I’m going to play as many games as Ben Simmons this year.’
At least that’s what I head him personally say to a close friend of my cousins girlfriends friends mom who is intimate to the situation at hand. – Stephen A Smith reporting.
watch durant say he’s gonna stay then Irving get traded a couple weeks later
How can Irving get traded when no team except the Lakers wants him?
