9:04am: The NBA’s schedule announcement is set for 3:00 pm Eastern time (2:00 pm CT) on Wednesday, the league has confirmed (via Twitter).
7:50am: The NBA will announce its full schedule for the 2022/23 regular season on Wednesday, league sources tell veteran reporter Marc Stein (Twitter link).
A handful of key matchups on the coming season’s schedule have been reported in recent days, including all five Christmas Day games and a Warriors/Lakers season opener.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link), the Celtics and Sixers will also play in Boston on opening night, which will fall on Tuesday, October 18.
Other newly reported matchups from the NBA’s opening week include the Suns hosting the Mavericks on October 19 after being blown out in Phoenix in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals by that same Dallas team (Twitter link via Charania); and the new-look Timberwolves hosting Rudy Gobert‘s old team, the Jazz, on October 21 (Twitter link via Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports). The Wolves will visit Utah for the first time on December 9, Haynes reports.
The fact that the season will officially begin on October 18 means that Monday, October 17 will be a key deadline to watch. That will be the last day for teams to set their 15-man rosters for the regular season, to convert Exhibit 10 contracts into two-way deals, to complete sign-and-trades, and to sign players to rookie scale extensions.
Which of THESE young trios will have the most success next season… Killian Hayes/Jaden Ivey/Jalen Duren (Det), Onyeka Okongwu/Jalen Johnson/AJ Griffin (Atl), Al Poku/Ousmane Dieng/Chet Holmgren (OKC), Kevin Porter Jr/Jabari Smith Jr/Al Sengun (Hou), Chris Duarte/Isaiah Jackson/Bennedict Mathurin (Ind), Jalen Suggs/Bol Bol/Paolo Banchero (Orl), James Wiseman/Moses Moody/Patrick Baldwin (GSW) or Josh Primo/Jeremy Sochan/Blake Wesley (SAS)?.. rank a top5 if possible
You missed out Cade, Green, Kumminga, Giddey amongst a few others from their teams for older players? Giddey and Kumminga are actually younger than most of the 22 lotto picks.
This 4 alone are big misses as I expect all 4 to make huge jumps this year with their young players around them.(with exception of Kumminga who will be strong 6th competition for Poole at GS).
Nah I didn’t miss anyone. The guys I named are the guys I meant to name (except sorta wish I put Bagley instead of Duren now). Never said these were the best 3 youngsters on these teams. Just trying to see if anyone could rank these guys. Getting exactly what I expected thus far lol
I dunno How you’d chose the young players then. Because you have a mix of top 5 draft players and 2nd rounders etc. wouldn’t it be fairer to just use the “best 3/ or young core”?
Eg if Cade, Giddey, Wagner or Green were included I’d lock their core’s for top 4 in whichever order but not based on the players you’ve said. Then you have teams with a lot of good young players like ORL, Hou, OKC, Det that you could easily pick up to 5-6 young players. And by picking Poku and Dieng it instantly drops OKC well below where they should be.
Maybe I shouldn’t have put the team names besides the players I chose. This isn’t about which teams have the best young core.. My goal is to help you guys learn about these talented young players & to understand a lil better how good they are compared to the other talented youngsters in the league. I chose guys who I feel are a lil misunderstood, underrated, overrated or just not talked about much. Kuminga is a guy I put in these questions last yr bc I felt he was heavily underrated. Rn public opinion is extremely high on him bc he was on TV alot & played for the champs. Ik how yall feel about Kuminga, ik how yall feel about Giddey & Franz. It would be more enjoyable for me if there were guys in here that could talk about the type of career Sochan might have in Texas or if Bol could earn rotation mins this season in Orlando. I’m more interested in under the radar type stuff as opposed to talking about the same guys all the time
I feel that comparing these trios is more “fair” bc they’re all fairly evenly matched (possibly a reason we haven’t seen an answer yet lol)
Well if that’s the case, I’ll play.
#1 Hou- even without Green, Christopher, Tari etc.
smith is on par with Mobley defensive and is one of the best shooters of the last few drafts. (But will take time to adapt offensively)
Sengun is one of the best of the 21 class and on the interior is already one of the best bigs in the league in the paint.
KPJ is already a 15 and 5 in his first full year at PG, although I don’t like him as a guard his numbers will be better this year. And his outside shooting is very good, only player on this list to already hit 50+ in an NBA game.
#2 ORL- just because of Paolo.
Paolo is an offensive superstar in the making, and his height should give him a good rebound number, but he needs to work on his D
Suggs will be better than last year but I think he’ll be hampered by Cole. Both are too similar same as with Sexton/Garland at Cle, I don’t think they work together.
Bol- still don’t know why he’s even in ORL, Wendell and Bamba will keep him out of the team.
#3 GSW even without Kumminga, moody and wiseman should smash it.
Wiseman if fit is a very good 5 on both ends and if he can get a full season he should prove it.
Moodys only downfall last year was his lack of PT. If they can give him the mins, his outside shooting and handle would be a huge asset.
Baldwin not seen much of him but his stats aren’t scream home, but the other two should justify above the likes of Det and OKC
Again based on best young core team based in ages of the players you included. It would probably be CLE with Garland Mobley and Sexton. Or Mem with Ja JJJ and Bane. Unless it’s an age cut off then it’s another story.
I wouldn’t put Jabari on Mobleys level defensively but I agree with alot of what u said & those same 3 teams would be high on my list as well. I think Suggs is gonna make a big jump tho. He played with a similar guy at Gonzaga too & thrived playing with guys like Cade, Green & Haliburton with Team USA so I feel like he’ll adapt to playing with Markelle & Cole as time goes on. Wiseman gonna be EXTREMELY interesting to watch this season. Could be like the showtime Lakers adding Worthy to an already great team or it could be more like Darko in Detroit.
We’ll have to agree to disagree with the Smith/Mobley convo, going into the draft he’s one of the best defenders in years, but you could be right it may not translate as well as Mobley did.
The difference with that regarding Suggs is that all the guys he played with for USA were much bigger and better players than both of them. They could also play 2-4 with the only dominant ball handler being Cade, green and Halliburton can be 3-D players if the team called for it(however both are far to good for that). Cole is a shorter guy with next to no D only able to play guard and is very ball dominant, but the ball needs to be in Suggs hands. For him and ORL to thrive he needs the ball in his hands not Anthony’s. Suggs has a very high ceiling but if they prefer Cole playmaking they need to move him to become the player he is. Similar to Halliburtons first year with Foxx he jumped because he got to control in Indy.
Wiseman is similar to Embiids first 2 years. Not comparing but injury marred him badly after being one of the best players in the draft. I also worry Warriors may be the wrong place. I still think he’ll be a minimum 20-10 centre in the league. But he may need to leave warriors to develop without the pressure. Either way with Kumminga, Moody and Poole GS are set for another 10 years let alone Wiseman!
I feel like you’re highly sleeping on Cole lol he’s a very capable defender. Like every young guard he has plenty of room for improvement but he’s a dog defensively. The yr before Suggs starred on team USA with Cade, Green, Scottie & the rest, Cole was leading Team USA to a gold medal as well & he was the team leader as well as being pretty easily the best player on the team. On Suggs FIBA team Cade & Tyrese were the starters & Green & Suggs came off the bench but they all played really well together & sorta took turns having great games. Suggs played off the ball alot on that team as well as playing off the ball alot at Gonzaga with Nembhard. Suggs is just a baller fr. That being said I think Orl/Utah should make a Suggs/Franz for Spida trade before the season. He’ll be even better in Utah for alot of the same reasons you just brought up.
I could be, what I’ve seen of Cole for ORL which isn’t more than 10-15 games he don’t look that great. And at “6’3”” he’s not the biggest. I highlight it as he’s about as 6’3” as Kyrie, or AI is 6’ lol. But either way I’ll keep an eye on him this year and hold my hands up if his D looks better than I’ve seen before.
Of those 4 Cade and Green will progress as superstars and Halliburton and Suggs should be AS min. That 4 will far surpass Anthony. I see him as a Levert, Dinwiddie level player, as with KPJ on Hou or Hayes on Det. Which is why I’d prioritise Suggs. Again I could be wrong but anyone sleeping in Suggs will be shocked when he steps up.
