There are plenty of good reasons why the Jazz need to trade Donovan Mitchell and go into full rebuild mode, Sarah Todd of the Deseret News opines.
Even with the assets acquired in the Rudy Gobert deal with Minnesota, the Jazz still aren’t good enough to be a true contender in the stacked Western Conference, says Todd. And even if they flipped those assets and tried to acquire another star like Kevin Durant, they wouldn’t be good enough to win it all. Wallowing in mediocrity would only serve to frustrate Mitchell and force the organization to deal him at a later date, Todd adds.
We have more from the Northwest Division:
- How much will Gobert impact the Timberwolves? The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski picks the brain of colleague Tony Jones, who covered Gobert in Utah. Jones believes Minnesota has more defenders with length and athleticism around Gobert than the Jazz ever had. That will make the Timberwolves a very good team the next couple of years, though there’s some risk of decline near the end of his contract, which runs through the 2025/26 season.
- Zeke Nnaji has been working with the Nuggets coaches on bulking up so that he can play all three frontcourt positions, Mike Singer of the Denver Post tweets. Nnaji has added 11 pounds of muscle and that could help him carve out a second unit role. The 21-year-old appeared in 41 regular season games last season.
- Is Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander the best non-All-Star in the league? Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman tackles that subject.
The Jazz would be lucky to even get 4#1’s for Donovan Mitchell. If the Knicks part with those draft picks they’d be outbidding themselves. Trader Danny got a great deal trading Gobert for 5#1 draft picks. It’s not happening for Mitchell. If I’m the Knicks last and final offer: Rose, Grimes, Quickley and Reddish and 3#1’s for Mitchell.
1. The T Wolves have already one the Rudy G’ trade. In time it will look like the worst trades on history for the Jazz.
2. You are mad on up with that trade.
What if…. KD and Kyrie to the Jazz for Conley, Bojan, Beverley, Beasley, Vanderbilt, NAW, Butler, Juzang and 6 1sts?
That team can’t compete in the West tho right?
Danny Ainge likes draft picks he ain’t giving those six up. Not happening. He wants draft picks, not give them away. Especially with Kevin Durant at age 34.
IDK, KD, Kyrie and Mitchell? With Clarkson off the bench? Depends on what ring chasers they can get with minimum contracts. As a Jazz fan I’d be awfully tempted. Not many free agents left though. Melo,Aldridge,Arcidiacono and Bembry. 2 months ago maybe but not now that all the impactful free agents have signed.
There’s too much baggage and recent injury history to want Durant at this point. It’s pretty clear by now that the rest of the league agrees. Otherwise, a deal would’ve been at least rumored by now. Nothing even remotely serious has been talked about.
The Jazz are currently better than people think as they are. I’m sure the Jazz aren’t just going to make another trade or two unless it either gives them value or makes them better. Too much of the opposite happened before Ainge got there. Had to reign that in.
Jazz will make the moves at the Trade Deadline. Danny is a asset grappling machine.
It doesn’t look like anybody’s giving up any more then 3#1’s in a trade for Mitchell. If the Knicks trade Randle and Fournier for Westbrook and a #1, then the Knicks trade that #1 to the Jazz along with Rose, Grimes, Quickley, and Reddish(4 #1 draft picks) and a couple of 2nd rounders for Donovan Mitchell. This trade seems plenty fair for everyone. Trader Danny needs to calm down. The Jazz will have their lottery picks, the Knicks draft picks, and the Lakers draft pick.
Lol yea except you have a team with Mitchell and Westbrook, which is still a middling team.
I’m a huge SGA fan but I worry about any player in an environment for that long where losing is acceptable
Didn’t seem to harm booker at all, he just needs to keep improving and stay healthy.
