Speaking to Spencer Davies of BasketballNews.com, new Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon said the franchise’s history is one important reason why he was excited to be traded from Indiana to Boston this offseason.
“I mean, they’re the most winning organization in the league, and I think they’re more hungry to win than anybody,” Brogdon said. “You can see that with the move they made for me and (Danilo) Gallinari. They want to improve. They want to win a championship. It’s all about Banner 18 for ’em. Now that’s all it’s about for me as well, and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
Brogdon also talked to Davies about Gallinari’s injury, the role he thinks he can play in Boston, and his involvement with the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders Africa program. The conversation is worth checking out in full for Celtics fans.
Here’s more from around the Atlantic:
- While the Nets‘ additions of Royce O’Neale, T.J. Warren, Edmond Sumner, and Markieff Morris should provide some depth around their stars, the team could still use more depth at center and a reliable backup point guard, argues Kristian Winfield of The New York Daily News. Winfield views Kyrie Irving and Patty Mills as score-first guards and notes that Ben Simmons will be used all over the court, meaning there still may be a need for a traditional floor general.
- Eric Koreen of The Athletic shares the results of his Raptors fan survey, which reflect the fanbase’s high confidence level in team president Masai Ujiri and suggest that fans would be comfortable offering Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet lucrative long-term contract extensions.
- Sam Cohn of The Philadelphia Inquirer takes an interesting, in-depth look at the road that Georges Niang took to the NBA and to the Sixers. Niang is entering the final year of his contract and will earn $3.47MM in 2022/23.
Which Atlantic div trio would you rather have this coming season, Trent/Siakam/Achiuwa, Maxey/Harden/Tucker, Smart/Tatum/Horford, Rose/Fournier/Randle or Kyrie/Royce/Day’Ron? Rank a top3 if possible…
The Raptors have a nice squad. Too bad they couldn’t secure a #1 player, otherwise I’d have them as favorites to win the East
They have a #1. Just imagine his name is Paul Simmons from St. Louis instead of Pascal Siakam from Brazzaville
Hate to break it to you but the Atlantic div stopped existing a couple years ago.
Bucks EASILY clear all those loser combos btw
I wouldn’t actually call Siakam a #1. He’s closer to a Pippen type player than a Jordan type. Not knocking on the guy, he’s definitely talented enough to be a core-type player, but he’s definitely miscast as a #1. And I’m a Raps fan.
1. celtics
2. 76ers
3. raptors
4. nets
5. knicks
Switch 2 and 3 and i agree
Wrong. Wrong wrong laughable in fact friend put Sixers 1a.
Muarry,Young and Collins. Beal, Kuzma and Porzingis.
Trent/Siakim/Achiuwa.
No shot that Nets team isn’t going to be riddled with injuries all season long.
I disagree with Winfield, I think Patty Mills is a very reliable backup who really only was so focused on scoring due to trying to fill the void of Kyrie missing games and Ben is more than capable being the floor general similar to how Harden was utilized. Also they talked about how Ben is probably going to be their C alongside Claxton with KD and Markieff capable of playing some minutes as a small ball 5 so its not that glaring of an issue. That being said I agree they might need 1 more guy but I am curious if that might be re-signing Aldridge or Griffin or possibly even seeing increased minutes and development of Sharpe who I am sure they want to see what they have with. They also got a couple bigs playing overseas or developing with the GLeague team that might be worth a training camp flyer on
I think at this point, they should sign Aldridge over Griffin. Griffin is a former shell of his All-Star self, and boy has he looked done the last couple of seasons. I believe Aldridge is a very good backup C.
Raptors need another point guard.
