As the NBA offseason nears its end, several players who ended last season under contract with a team remain available in free agency. Training camps are set to open across the league later this month, so time is running out for those players ahead of the regular season.
Teams are also still rounding out their training camp rosters by signing players to Exhibit 10, two-way and non-guaranteed deals. As shown by our current list of free agents, Dennis Schröder, Isaiah Thomas, Jeremy Lamb, Lou Williams, Lance Stephenson, Andre Iguodala, Carmelo Anthony, Blake Griffin, DeMarcus Cousins and Dwight Howard are among the veterans still available.
Of course, many of those players are likely nearing the end of their careers, including Williams (36 next month), Anthony (38) and Howard (36). Iguodala, 38, still hasn’t decided whether he’ll be playing or retiring. The Warriors likely value his leadership and experience more than his production at this point in his career.
The rest of those players are all 33 years old or younger, but several young players are also available. Schröder has a case to be the best option, averaging 13.5 points in 28.7 minutes per game with Boston and Houston last season. Plenty of the others hold All-Star experience.
We want to know what you think. Among the remaining free agents, who do you think is the most valuable one? Who could help a specific team this season, even if they wind up signing later in the year? Which players on our current list of free agents interest you the most? Take to the comments section below and voice your opinions!
someone needs to sign the greatest SG of all time Jahmi’us Ramsey. dudes easily worth a 5 year/40 mil. mad underrated
I feel like Schroder would be a perfect Laker if/when Russ gets traded/released, for better or for worse. It would be hilarious for the Lakers to trade with the Jazz again for some more of their spare parts. I am kind of surprised that Stanley Johnson was in the THT trade. The Jazz already have too many guaranteed contracts, and the Lakers could kinda use him.
Melo seemed likely to return to the Lakers as well after a solid year, but has not re-signed yet. I could also see him returning to the Knicks, who have a need for bench forward depth if the two sides can stomach a reunion.
I would really like the Celtics to target a more veteran center option than just Noah Vonleh, like Favors (when he gets bought out), Cousins, Howard, or Whiteside.
Returns for Kemba (once he gets bought out) and Lance to the Hornets and Pacers would be so fun too.
Celtics def dont want cousins whiteside or Howard. At all.
Schroeder is far better than Westbrook
How much can Lakers pay him?
If Westbrook makes $47 million, how much is Schroeder worth? $70 million a year?
Schroder can be signed for the minimum
Nonsensical Westbrook dissing
Schroder, Dwight, Melo and Iggy all can still help contenders, everyone else its time to hang em up.
Iggy is done. He only played 61 minutes during this last playoff run and scored a whole 11 points. He’s mentorship role only, regular season you might get another 500 minutes out of him. But you’re not getting any real boost on the court in the playoffs. Not any more.
Melo, lot left in the tank. Dwight, 15 to 18-minutes a game is a good role for him as he’s shown. Schroder is a starter in this league if he were on Detroit, Wolves, or Spurs. Wolves should figure out a way to get him on the roster. May need to be a S&T. Prince for Schroder and a 2nd.
Prince is buried on the depth chart right now.
Gobert – Reid
KAT – Anderson
McDaniels – Anderson
Edwards – Rivers – Forbes
DLo – McLaughlin
IF they landed Schroder, I think you push McDaniels to 6th man or it’s situational where Schroder is 6th man.
Gobert – Reid
KAT – McDaniels
Edwards – Anderson
DLo – Rivers – Forbes
Schroder – McLaughlin
Those 10 guys together would not even be a good team – one reason why nobody is beating down their doors individually.
Their minimum salary (because of their years in the league already, obviously) is so high that you can pay a younger player waaaay less money to fill that low-production roster spot.
Half of those guys may have to wait til 10-day time, sans Schroder.
Dennis is waiting for $5million plus that he deserves
What teams can afford that?
shroder he suck
This guy! Wow! What insight!!
Mr LOLZ wasn’t working out apparently.
Howard would be perfect for Minny. Schroder Dallas. Whiteside back to the Heat. Cousins Philly. Carmelo Nuggets. Williams Hornets.
The Wolves already have a logjam at the center position (Gobert, Towns, Reid). Schroder to the Mavs makes sense since Brunson left. The Heat also have a logjam at the center position (Adebayo, Dedmon, Yurtseven). Cousins to Philly makes sense since Harrell is to undersized to match up against legit bigs and can’t shoot. Carmelo to Nuggets would be ok and Knicks too. Williams would provide veteran leadership and scoring off the bench for the Hornets.
That collection of players would make a dominant team
