SEPTEMBER 18: Thomas disputed the claim that he participated in the Lakers’ workout, posting a tweet stating that he didn’t work out for the club.
SEPTEMBER 17: Isaiah Thomas was among several free agents who worked out recently for the Lakers, tweets Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The 33-year-old guard is looking for his next team after finishing last season with the Hornets.
If Thomas earns a roster spot, it would mark his third stint with the organization. He signed a 10-day contract with L.A. under the hardship provision last December, appearing in four games and averaging 9.3 PPG in 25.3 minutes per night. Thomas also played 17 games with the Lakers during the 2017/18 season.
A report in July indicated that the Hornets still had some interest in bringing back Thomas, who signed a rest-of-the-season contract after joining the team on a pair of 10-day deals in March. Charlotte currently has two openings on its offseason roster.
Armoni Brooks, Sharife Cooper and Mychal Mulder took part in the workout as well, according to Scotto. He also identifies Shabazz Muhammad, Jeremy Lamb, Dwayne Bacon and Miye Oni as participants (Twitter link).
L.A. currently has one opening on its 20-man roster, but it’s a long shot for any of these players to be with the team once the season begins. Luxury tax penalties would cost the Lakers about $7MM to fill their final roster spot, so they will likely operate with 14 players for most of the season. Friday’s signing of Dennis Schröder gives them 12 fully guaranteed contracts, while Austin Reaves and Wenyen Gabriel are on non-guaranteed deals.
So Isiah is the big story in LA ………ok
Isiah Thomas tweeted out it was BS. He never worked out for the lakers. Sotto flat out lied about the work out. Seriously who would believe Sotto after that lie.
I been telling you guys for months about all these bogus NBA writers. They don’t have much by way of “real” sources. They rely a couple of agents and people who they think know something. Get it wrong with all this second-hand info.
The problem with 95% of these writers is that they don’t actually talk to, or have ANY relationship with ANY actual NBA players. When was the last time you seen any of these guys with quotes from an “actual” player????
Social media ended these guys. If a player has something to say, he can send out a Tweet or hit up Instagram. That is what they do. No longer are writers other than maybe Woj an Shams needed. The players don’t talk to these guys anymore anyway!!
Robots are also writing articles now. A lot of the stuff you read on ESPN isn’t even written by humans anymore. Many of the game recaps and game previews are written by computers.
So true Very Barry.
The beat writer gigs are going the way of the dodos in all sports. There are multiple reasons for this and you’ve hit most of them.
I would add:
– In some respects, the writers did it to themselves with their gotcha journalism (drama = ratings). So now, instead of talking to a beat writer and having what you say get twisted into some bs to fit a storyline, players are going directly to the people through the use of technology (sometimes not very smartly).
– Print media’s demise has also changed the game a lot because most of the high paid “ground pounders” are gone. Today’s writers don’t leave their desks.
Lastly, Woj, Shams, and a few others are only “in the know” because agents and teams’ mgmt use them to get a message out for self serving purposes.
Great post Lars
The whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Yeah writers have had to compete with new tech. So they did what they all do to sell. Dramatice it, embellish it a bit. And push different scenarios. No matter how wild. NY media has long been doing this. Truth is there are still some guys who have integrity. And even if they are wrong. You can accept an honest take.
The competition is fierce now. So it’s plenty of noise. And pushing the boundaries of the truth. If you just watch the games. And you understand them. You can usually see most of it for yourself. Including the drama. The game is so competitive today. It will set you straight one way or the other. Look at Kyrie, AD, Schroeder, Randle. Even Luka is getting a scolding for his hero ball. The game will always take care of it self.
Sotto own….village rent
Schroder Beverly and Thomas? Lakers winning the championship for sure
I think they would be better off signing Jeremy Lamb. Lakers need defense.
Well they still have one more roster spot open
a fan of the knicks, who have not won a championship since 1973
Fake news here and fake news there. IT said it himself that he didn’t participate in the workout.
Looks like he’s Baaaack .

It’s actually a good signing. Tend to think this will speed up Westbrook trade.
These are some good players that will fit on some other teams. The Los Angeles Lakers will likely roll with what they have. They might try to make a trade for Kendrick Nunn now that they got Dennis Schroder. He’s starting to look expendable.
Three team trade
Los Angeles Lakers get
Cam Reddish
Houston Rockets get
Kendrick Nunn
New York Knicks get
David Nwaba
2nd Round Pick from the Houston Rockets
He stinks
Give cooper and bacon another chance
Last spot needs to be a wing defender
Ironically a guy like Stanley J would be a great fit…oops
Danny Ainge did Isaiah Thomas extremely bogus and just traded the dude. The main put blood sweat and tears into the Boston Celtics. He lost a tooth and most importantly lost his sister. Danny Ainge ain’t absolutely nothing and I would hate to play for any team if he’s the Vice President of Basketball Operations or the General Manager. That’s why I was glad to see Kyrie Irving act a fool in Boston and it back fire on him. Danny Ainge is a major reason why Isaiah Thomas career took a turn for the worst. I know he had a major hip injury but I honestly feel if the Boston Celtics would’ve been patient and let him have a year to get back to 100% he would’ve been back to playing at a high level. He came back too quick and haven’t been right since.
Danny Ainge can get all the picks he wants from the Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell trades. He’s probably going to get some more for the other veterans on his team like Bojan Bogdanovic and Jordan Clarkson and Malik Beasley. He’s not going to win another ring like he did with the 2008 Boston Celtics because he has that bad Karma and curse on him. He will always just be known as Trader Danny!!!
A guy like Robert Covington or Taurean Prince would be a better fit.
Conley, Bogdanovic, Gay are three vets. Who want to compete. And I think can fit in Lakers scheme. They or combo of two make Lakers much better. I definitely believe they are trying to work something out with Jazz.
