The Hawks have signed Jarrett Culver to a two-way contract, the team announced in a press release.
The 23-year-old shooting guard spent last season with the Grizzlies, appearing in 37 games and averaging 3.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per night. Memphis acquired him in a trade with the Timberwolves last summer.
Culver was the sixth overall pick in the 2019 draft, but he wasn’t able to establish himself in a regular role with either the Grizzlies or Wolves. The Hawks are taking a low-risk gamble on his youth and potential.
Culver was a star at Texas Tech, where he averaged 14.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 75 games. He led the Red Raiders to the first NCAA Championship Game in school history and earned a spot on the 2019 Final Four All-Tournament Team.
The Hawks opened up a two-way slot on Sunday by waiving Chaundee Brown. The team’s other two-way contract belongs to guard Trent Forrest.
The addition of Culver brings Atlanta’s roster back to 18 players, two below the offseason limit, with the start of training camp 15 days away.
LOVE this move. Wouldn’t even be surprised to see him eventually become a part of the rotation if/when Justin Holiday goes thru a prolonged shooting slump
If Jarrett Culver is part of your playing rotation …. You likely are not even going to be a Play-In team!
Culver is a draft bust. He was never that good. He is only a name because Minnesota was silly enough to draft him #6 overall. G League or Overseas is where he belongs.
Wanted the Hawks to draft him back in ‘19. Obviously Hunter was the right pick in hindsight, even with the multitude of injuries.
I like both Culver and Forrest on two-ways a lot though.
I def think he woulda been better with the Hawks than he was in Minnesota. I think he’ll eventually earn a standard contract & make a Duane Ferrell type impact as a role player. Hopefully he’s in the gym rn tightening up that corner trey
He’s gotta get better at shooting but there is a basketball player in there somewhere. Always liked him and will be pulling for him.
Culver should be along a lot further than he is. Something went wrong. Needs good coaching and his confidence back. Definitely had the talent coming out.
He needs the ball in his hands. The same as Denzel Valentine. They want to make these guys spot up shooters, but draft them based on who they were in college.
Culver is a wing in the NBA same as he was in Lubbock. Matt Mooney & Davide Moretti were the lead guards on their Final4 run
I saw him more as a big SG. Not a shooter . Yeah he’s more a wing in NBA. But you play by your offense or your defense. I saw enough talent to play D in NBA. And score enough to be in a rotation. Something happened along the way. Not all talent develops in three yrs. Some take longer.
culver he suck
