SEPTEMBER 14: The contract with Bass is official, the Jazz announced in a press release.
AUGUST 7: The Jazz have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent forward Paris Bass, his agent Daniel Hazan tells Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link).
Utah’s agreement with Bass is an Exhibit 10 deal, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports (via Twitter). Bass will compete for a roster spot in training camp.
Bass most recently played for the Lakers during the Las Vegas and California Classic summer leagues, averaging 8.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game.
Bass, a 6’8″ forward, went undrafted in 2017 and has spent most of his career playing internationally. He signed two 10-day hardship contracts with the Suns this past season, and averaged 17.3 points and 7.0 rebounds with the Lakers’ G League affiliate on the campaign.
Apparently Basketball Reference has lost its mind. Bass is projected to score 17 points per game with 7 boards a game this year. Seems a bit high for a guy that has played a grand total of 7 minutes in the NBA.
lmao
Hmm, think they mislabeled his G League stats? Makes more sense to me. =)
Edit:. After seeing him play, I can actually see this guy getting those numbers. I like him! He has some skill!
That’s because it’s clearly written there that it is a per 36 Minute average.
Incredibly useful information for someone that likely won’t play 36 minutes all year.
maybe those are his per 36?
How can they project what his “per 36” is when he hasn’t played 36 minutes in the NBA yet? You have to have some kind of baseline in order to make a projection. Otherwise, they are just made up numbers.
Per e6/per 100 possessions is a projection based on the counting stats and just turning them into rate stats over those minutes. So if a guy plays 9.5 minutes per game, you can pretty much figure out his per 36 numbers by multiplying everything by a little less than 3.8…I usually use per 100 possession numbers, and dont even really pay attention to counting stats
SREF runs projections for pretty much every player in the sports they do projections in. In baseball the projections come with a % to indicate accuracy – players with very little statistical information are usually very low % accuracy.
PARIS is relocated to UTAH !!
How about THAT JAZZ !!
that was beautiful, man
Looks like a good all-around player. Has deep range, good passer and even better rebounder. I love how he knows how to use the glass. The Jazz are actually thin at PF or smallball C. Should get some playing time; especially if they trade Bojan.
Liked him in summer league the last couple of years. Plays hard. Strong attacker. Not sure he’ll make their roster, with guys like Vanderbilt in front of him, but he could end up as depth for someone after the preseason, if he doesn’t stick there, as like what happened for him last year. Could be an option at the small ball 5 for them though, but depends on who else they add
He looks to be a much better shooter than Vanderbilt. Two different types of players.
I’m sure Paris, like all young players, need to improve their endurance against bigger bodies. Hard to simulate that in the gym.
Summer League isn’t quite the same. Although, the NBA isn’t as big and full of bruisers like in years past. The speed, on the other hand, is up there with any era so far or faster even.
He is physical, defends adequately, sets good screens, can run the fast break, etc. I just meant they have a couple of guys at the 4 in front of him, WITH Vanderbilt and Rudy Gay, and Bogdanovic obviously starting at the 4…
He could allow them to use Bogdanovic more at the 3, and they do need shooting at that position, but I think right now he is more depth at the 4, or likely more of an option at the 5. I feel like he sometimes can attack too much and take a couple of extra dribbles, but I do like he puts the ball on the floor hard
Either way, he is my type of player in terms of effort
If I were the Jazz, and wanted to run, then I’d put Bass at the 5, Bojan/Fontecchio at the 4, Vanderbilt at the 3, Beasley at the 2 and Don at the 1. Then bring in Conley, Clarkson, Juzang, Fonntecchio/Gay, and Kessler/Doke.
Naturally, guys can be interchanged based on matchups, but that starting lineup has lots of range, speed for their position, and rebound activity.
Defense would rely more on playing the passing lanes, trapping, some fullcourt press, and boxing out when any shot goes up.
I’ve been hearing that the Jazz already have a Beverly trade in place. They just have to wait until his trade moratorium expires around the end of August.
I kinda want to see Beverly with this group first. Although, maybe the Jazz think he’d be a problem with getting mad at teammates like Rudy did? Takes a certain kind of ego to be able to take on that challenge.
I’d want to see Beverley with them as well, but it makes sense if they dont move Conley and/or Clarkson
If they end up keeping Conley then Paris Bass and Conley need to both go full-time fro! Every time Conley does he plays noticeably more relaxed and has better flow. Anyone else notice this? Maybe because he feels taller? =)
An Exhibit 10 contract means that they can convert it to a 2-way contract later. This allows them to place him on the active roster or the G-League roster whenever they want. I do think he has the skills to play several positions, but most likely 4 or 5. Likely depends on what they do with Kessler and Doke. Even Lauri can play 4 or 5. He played 3 for the Cavs, but I would think Fonntecchio or Vanderbilt would be the 3.
Assuming all the vets and Beasley are traded, then, as of right now, the most ready lineup would be:
Sexton
THT
Fontecchio
Lauri
Vanderbilt
Butler
NAW
Agbaji
Johnson
Bass
Send to the G-League for seasoning:
Kessler
Juzang
Bolmero
Note: If they look ready then they can alternate with guys like Bass, Johnson, and Agbaji. I think NAW might have too many NBA seasons to be sent over.
Trades:
Conley
Clarkson
Bojan
Rudy Gay
Note: If players are brought back in trades then this whole list could change.
Doke is still recovering from an injury I believe. I like him, but it also may be time to trade his rights.
Beasley is a guy I’d like to keep, but if there’s a solid trade for him, or if he helps a bigger trade go through, then it might be better to trade him now. If they decide to keep him then he’d take either Fontecchio’s or THT’s spot and NAW would slide down a string.
