Bulls guard Lonzo Ball will undergo an arthroscopic debridement of his left knee, the team announced on Twitter.
The procedure is scheduled for September 28 in Los Angeles, and Ball’s condition will be reevaluated in four to six weeks. Debridement involves removing foreign objects or damaged/dead tissue from a wound.
A report earlier this month indicated that Ball was likely to miss training camp due to persistent pain in the knee, which was surgically repaired in January. He and the Bulls have decided to address the problem with a surgical procedure, even though his prognosis ensures he will miss the start of the regular season.
Ball’s knee issues date back to a torn meniscus that limited him to just 35 games last season. He was originally projected to return a few weeks after the surgery, but a bone bruise disrupted his rehab process.
ESPN recently reported that Ball has visited “multiple specialists” in an attempt to figure out what’s causing the discomfort in his knee and to explore possible treatments. A source told ESPN that the knee is “structurally sound,” but the pain hasn’t subsided after a summer of rest and rehab.
Before the injury, Ball played an important role in leading the Bulls’ early-season charge. He averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists while providing a strong defensive presence in Chicago’s backcourt.
Finally. Seemed pretty obvious he needed another procedure.
frustrating
Never can stay healthy.
It’s sad because he stays getting hurt. I like his talent but we haven’t been able to see it consistently.
If he’s still in pain 8 months later then it was obvious they missed something. This should of been done months ago. The Bulls have enough guards to start off the season. It’s more important he comes back healthy this time.
Enter the Dragon
The one young laker I was hype about but I’m ok they didn’t keep because dude can’t stay healthy at all
(Sigh) I swear to god I predicted this yesterday in another thread…wtf is with the Bulls med staff that they cannot admit when something isn’t right as soon as it is onvious, they wait until it has impacted the season.
They should have gone after a replacement as soon as last season’s injury did not follow the predicted recovery timeline. Dragic is not a starter any more, this also means somebody better have gotten better at 3s or they are in trouble.
You can’t necessarily blame the Bulls Doctors. I know Lavine used his own Dr’s for all the procedures he had with the Bulls. I know the Bulls probably signed off on him doing that but doesn’t mean it’s their fault. I don’t know one way or the other if Ball used his own Dr’s or the Bulls but something should of been done a lot sooner either way. If Ball used his own Dr then he should of gone back and said hey, this isn’t right. It’s still ridiculous that it took this long.
r.i.p.
He’s done thank god he’s got Lavar
He’s done. His John Wall and D Rose after injuries era will now begin
I wonder if he’s had any cartilage removed from his knee in the past, or possibly a procedure that he and his family kept under wraps when he was younger? This seems very similar to what happened to Brandon Roy after he had cartilage removed from his knee
he’s cooked
4-6 weeks? That is what they said after the last surgery.
