Suns GM James Jones said there have been talks with Cameron Johnson‘s reps regarding a possible rookie scale extension, Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic tweets.
“We’re having discussions. Cam is a big part of what we do,” Jones said. “Really excited for the progress he’s shown over the last few years, especially last year. He’s primed to take some steps forward.”
We broke down a potential extension for Johnson this week, including what the numbers might look like.
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Lakers owner Jeanie Buss told Howard Beck in a Clutch Points podcast that she wants LeBron James to retire as a Laker. “With LeBron we have a line of communication between the two of us, and he knows that he can reach me anytime and vice versa,” Buss said. “I think he feels appreciated. I know I appreciate that he signed an extension to stay here and continue to lead the Laker team. He’s a fantastic leader both on and off the court. I feel like we’re blessed to have him as a Laker. I want to see him retire as a Laker.”
- A decision on whether Andre Iguodala will retire or return to the Warriors will be made in the coming days, coach Steve Kerr said in an interview with 95.7 The Game (Twitter link). “We’ll touch base in the next couple days. (GM Bob Myers) and I are giving him the space to make whatever decision he wants. We’ll support him either way, but we hope he comes back.” Iguodala said on his podcast hasn’t yet decided what he wants to do, Anthony Slater of The Athletic tweets.
- Klay Thompson‘s brother Mychel Thompson has been named as video coordinator for the Warriors, according to a team press release. On the coaching staff, Hilton Armstrong and Anthony Vereen have been named player development coaches and Will Sheehey has been named player development analyst.
Is that Hoosier legend Will Sheehey?.. anyway back to Berlin. Luka is having a huge game, shocker (16pts at half). But it seems like Slovenia is actually playing better when he sits. Belgium playing with a bunch of heart rn & sticking tight, down 3 at half of this do or die game
Luka caught a elbow to the neck but other than that Slovenia just rolled over Belgium in the 2nd half
The guy who is probably on pins and needles with the Iguodala signing/retiring decision is Mac McClung. Warriors are so deep in the luxury tax, they will only roster 14 standard contracts instead of 15. Which means if Iggy signs, buh bye Mac (assuming his deal which is not official yet is non-guaranteed).
McClung will never be on this team, if Iggy doesn’t sign they have said they will likely keep the space open for a later season add.
They are mandated to keep 14 of 15 spots on standard contracts all season, so if Iggy doesn’t return, McClung is currently the front runner for that 14th spot unless they decide to sign a vet on a minimum/convert a two way player.
I always love it when guys come on here from 3,000 miles away and say they know exactly what the Warriors Front Office is thinking. You have no idea what the Warriors roster will look like come opening night. That is why they have training camps and preseason games. They don’t know how all the pieces fit.
Angsty much? All you have to do is look at the current depth chart and can see that there are 14 spots currently taken up and that McClung is at the bottom of the pecking order. Warriors have been very public in the past about not wanting to fill the 15th bc of luxury tax concerns.
Angsty? Mcclung is at the bottom of the pecking order? Umm…Robinson is clearly at the bottom. Rollins and Baldwin are still day-to-day. I can’t see them rushing those two; Kerr found out that that doesn’t work. Quinones and Weatherspoon are Santa Cruz bound. Though, Weatherspoon has the inside track of getting his contract converted. That leaves Poole, Divencenzo, and McClung.
I’m not talking about Exhibit 10 contracts that are training camp deals. Baldwin and Rollins are on guaranteed rookie deals. And if you read my post above, I already mentioned the two way contracts.
@trog A’sfaninUK Lives at least 3k miles away from the Bay Area. He believes the Warriors have 12 guards signed…Bob Myers has never said that they wouldn’t sign a 15th player. They have never said they will hold open the 15th spot due to the Luxury Tax.
GSW’s camp is currently looking like this:
12 guys who can play guard
6 guys who can play forward
3 guys who can play center
Draymond plays the post on occasion if I’m not mistaken. Ah 3 and 1 = 4 so far.
Pointless post again by A’sfaninLexington. What’s with the incorrect breakdown by position? It’s totally wrong. Example, “3 guys who can play center?” What? “He doesn’t know ball” to quote a famous uk poster here..
5 guys can, and do, and WILL play center regularly considering this current camp roster.
James Wiseman,
Kevon Looney,
Jamychal Green,
Draymond Green, and since his count is 21, we’ll put
Trevion Williams as well, since his listed position is… CENTER.
He said this all last season too. He thinks it’s the 90’s still.
@Gary You have to admit; the ‘UK’ guy, who has officially declared himself the greatest Basketball mind ever, he even knows more than Naismith, is getting better. Before, even though you could easily find the roster information on the Warriors website, he was saying that Warriors had one Center signed. I wonder which one was that. Chamberlin and Thurmond have died. So, probably neither of them.
Gary, I enjoyed McClung in summer league but I’d like your take on Trevion Williams. I’m not familiar with him as I don’t follow college enough. But he’s BIG and I’m curious. Because after all, Marty McRae says we need a big
That’s a great question Claude. I know nothing about Trevion Williams. Never seen him play. Have you seen him and have an opinion?
@claude From what I have read, he played his whole collegiate career with his back to the glass. But, and probably why the Warriors are interested, he was the best passer in 2022 draft, of any other player. With the coach they brought in to guide Wiseman, they might be able to coax a medium range game out of him. He also sounds willing to learn. A bit of a project. But, the Warriors have the space for a project.
Thx for responding guys. Prior to the draft I followed Tankathons ratings a lot and Williams had pretty good rankings. And if he’s a good passerby I’m more curious
With Iggy taking so much time to decide its looking more likely he will likely retire and sign a 1 day contract to say goodbye. I can see him becoming a coach.
I think you are right. It has to be tough to walk away from something that practically formed your life. But, he has done a lot of tech investing, and Lacob would be the perfect mentor for him.
He already said he’s not currently interested in coaching. I thought he would retire for sure …. The longer the wait, the better chance he’s coming back.
