Speaking to the media today, head coach Steve Kerr said the Warriors expect to have a fully healthy roster for training camp, with their first practice coming on Saturday, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic (Twitter links). Rookies Ryan Rollins and Patrick Baldwin Jr., who dealt with injuries this summer, will have no restrictions.
As Slater notes, it will be the first full training camp for third-year center James Wiseman, with his rookie camp disrupted by the pandemic, followed by last year’s injury-plagued season, which saw him miss all of 2021/22 after multiple knee surgeries and setbacks. Kerr said Wiseman has gained confidence in his knee and is healthy now.
“He’s healthy. He’s played in a ton of pickup games in our building (the last month)…I think he’s got a lot of confidence in that knee now. That’s the first step. The next step is finding his role within this team,” Kerr said.
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- President of basketball operations and general manager Bob Myers said he’ll meet with Jordan Poole‘s agents to discuss a rookie scale extension once the team returns from Tokyo in early October, according to Slater (via Twitter), who says it will be the “first substantial negotiations” about a potential deal. Golden State is playing a couple of preseason games against the Wizards in Japan on September 30 and October 1.
- Regarding the possible extensions for Poole and other veterans on the roster like Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins, Myers said the price points will play a factor. “We want all those guys. Can we get them all? I don’t know. It depends on the money … we’re not at the point where we can make those decisions yet,” he said (Twitter link via Kendra Andrews of ESPN).
- Guard Donte DiVincenzo, who signed with the Warriors as a free agent this summer, has hired a new agent. He’ll now be represented by Jason Glushon of Glushon Sports Management, tweets Liz Mullen of Sports Business Journal.
Yes, pay youngest player first
At younger ages they are generally more athletic, while at older ages they tend to get slower and craftier.
GSW about to keep everybody and win 10 Finals in a row.
Yes A’sfaninLexington they’ll keep everybody THIS season. They’ll worry about their roster for next year this coming summer.
But yes definitely running it back this year. Why wouldn’t they since they won it all last year?
Replying to my own comment lol, the only possibility is with Wiggins and Jordan Poole. Those two guys if and only if Jonathan Kuminga really steps up and or Ryan Rollins really steps up then there’s a SLIGHT chance they trade Wiggins or Jordan Poole at the deadline because they feel they can afford to let one guy slip and receive something fantastic in return.
The chances of that are extremely low but if a lottery team is willing to give a first round protected maybe top three or whatever for Jordan Poole and I’m thinking any of those Lottery teams that would love Jordan Poole, I think the Warriors may do it.
Barring injury and of course a substantial grasp on a top four playoff spot matters. So it probably won’t happen but it’s in the back of Bob Myers’ mind anyway. Those two guys are gone next summer guaranteed because the Warriors won’t pay what other teams will. They’re so loaded they don’t need to.
Unless Kuminga or Moody really break out this season, and I mean really break out I’d pay Wiggins. Wiggins is a known quantity and he was the 2nd best player on a championship team. As far as Poole? I think Moody can come close to replacing him offensively and be big upgrade on the defensive end.
They may very well pay wiggins. I’m thinking he’ll take a slight discount as well because he is happier than he’s ever been. Plus the fact that I don’t think another team who has eye on Wiggins as their number one guy will pay Wiggins like the number one guy. They have seen what we all saw with Wiggins as the number one option.
So you could be right, especially with Draymond Green and his barking about leaving after next season. Would be tough to lose Poole and Green and Wiggins.
Moody is more Wiggins than he is Poole. I think they have their sights on Ryan Rollins becoming Poole if the chips fall correctly and they’re lucky.
Moody is long and a Defender and a mid-range shooter plus the three. Same as Wiggins. Maybe the occasional drive to the basket also.
But Jordan Poole is a totally different player. Ball handler point guard type dazzling creativity, finishes at The Rim, long range bomber off the dribble. Not so much on defense as a stopper like Wiggins and hopefully Moody will be.
You’re right Moody isnt much of a ball handler even in college he mostly played off ball, but I was more thinking about cutting, stunting and running off screens to get open like Poole and Thompson.
Poole can use the dribble to get open but he’s not much of a playmaker, fortunately he doesn’t need to be a great playmaker with Green on the team.
You’re right. Flashy handles but not much of a playmaker. A young team signing him to a Max contract to lead the team to the promised land as a point guard will probably be disappointed in his court vision and ability to make players around him better.
You know this and I know this and the Warriors know this, but not sure some of those Lottery teams with stars in their eyes will hesitate to pay Jordan Poole massive dollars.
Poole’s biggest weakness is his defense. Bigger teams going after him on the court because his defense is sub par. He reminds me of Jamal Crawford a guy who can get you 20 points most nights but no factor on defense.
@ ARC2
His defense isn’t that bad. He’s only 23, and will be focusing on improving defensively this season.
@Tcat1331
Poole avgd 4 apg in 30 min/gm in a score 1st role off the bench. Considering he wasn’t in a playmaker’s role, claiming he’s not a playmaker isn’t really valid.
Translation Wiseman doesn’t have a role, we won without anything from him. Coming off three knee surgeries,we can’t count on him. If he gives us something ,we will take it.
Three surgeries???? Really
Time to get a clue lol. He’s had one injury. It’s the meniscus. Which is a small cartilage muscle that connects to the knee. Never has had knee issues. His issue coming In was being in shape. Cause if COVID restrictions. You welcome
@al Correction. Cartlidge is not muscle. It lubricates joints. Loss of it is extremely painful.
The meniscus is a cartilage. But Warriors talked about the muscle connected to it. My point is. It was only one injury there. And he had issues with healing. NEVER had MULTIPLE knee injuries.

It’s real easy to look up his injury history.
Like Giants74 who’s got to be from Uranus. Clarity is in the truth.
Wiseman had 2 knee surgeries and an orthobiologic injection in London to assist with the healing process. The second orthoscopic knee surgery was not widely reported. The knee is an issue to watch out for, especially with his high energy athletic style of play.
What an ignoramus. You are obviously just trying to be a troll. The Warriors had a definite role for him the Summer League, and they will continue to build on that.
Bite me. wannabee …..
just throw out bs like it’s your own. You must swallow ….
@al The guy who said that Wiseman has no role with the Warriors is the ignoramus. Just look at Las Vegas.
Trade Wiggins + Looney for Capela and Collins. . Draymond Green’s + Wiseman value on the trade market is a Ben Simmons .
Curry, Thompson, Simmons, Collins, Capela
Donte, Poole, Moody, Kuminga, JMichael Green
Rollins, Patrick Baldwin, Weatherspoon , Iggy
DERP
Imo Moody is a better scorer than Poole. Plus he’s got size. Warriors are much better off selling high on Poole. Take a pick for him. He’s more a system guy. Wiggins to me is the wild card. Not sure if Warriors truly believe in him. I know I do. Gained a lot more respect for Wiggins since he’s been a Warrior.
Wiseman and Kuminga are no-brained to me. Both are future stars imo. Warriors are in a good place.
With Wiggins its going to be about how much money he wants if he stays. If he wants a max contract he may be gone. Can’t see the Warriors having the money to give out any max contract anymore. 2 out of the 3 Free agents stays.
See that’s my point. How much do they like or respect him. I’d give him max money on Knicks bro. He’s been all you can ask for on Warriors.
Nope, Poole is the second playmaker behind Curry, he’s 100% necessary.
Moody is a whole other beast – he lowkey might be the second coming of Kawhi in terms of overall game.
GSW will keep both.
You are right in that Wiggins is the only true “maybe” on this long-term squad, he’s an airhead so he’s been prone to bad choices so far and leaving a team that’s about to win a whole stack of titles in a row is a bad decision for sure.
Playmaker ?????
Yeah keep trying lol.
Lol @ KnickAL:
Poole’s 4.0 apg while in a 6th man microwave scorer’s role = playmaker. The only backcourt player on the Knicks that avged over 3.5 was Rose.
The Golden State Warriors are a great organization and in great shape for the present and the future. Jordan Poole definitely about to get a bag!!! Andrew Wiggins going to get a bag I’m just not sure if GSW will give it to him.
Exactly what I try to say in 17 paragraphs. Nice job champ.
Poole is fools gold. I wouldn’t pay him to be my backup. No one is paying him.
Al…..poole has progressed significantly each of his first 3 seasons. not sure where you get that.
@KnickAl
Watch and learn!
Just win a championship again and wait for next offseason. If Wiseman doesn’t look good enough, trade him away can make room for all three renewal. If Wiseman looks good, Poole is most replaceable and his new contract can keep Warriors initiative.
Considering some of the chumps earning 20 million a season, Poole should get high 20s a year-30 million. He’s that much better than Harris, Robinson and Fournier
Orlando should give the bag to Poole
Myers said what the GSW fans have been saying all along, they plan to keep them all starting with signing Poole to an extension.
Knicks fans posting their jealousy here is funny!
