After Knicks guard Quentin Grimes aggravated his left foot injury during last Friday’s preseason finale, the team doesn’t intend to bring him back until he’s fully pain-free in that foot and not at risk of re-aggravating the injury, writes Ian Begley of SNY.tv.
“He’s got to be able to sustain it,” Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said. “So if he ramps it up and there’s anything there, it’s basically day-to-day. So just follow the protocol and plan that the trainers have laid out.”
With Grimes out of the rotation, Cam Reddish got an opportunity to play a bigger role in the Knicks’ opener on Wednesday and took full advantage, scoring 22 points off the bench, as Begley details in another SNY.tv. story. It was hugely important performance for Reddish, who is in a contract year and didn’t impress in the preseason.
As Begley observes, Reddish will presumably be given an opportunity to solidify a rotation spot for as long as Grimes remains out. If Reddish continues to play well and Grimes is cleared to play, it will be interesting to see whose rotation spot might be at risk, since the Knicks won’t want to sit Grimes, a Thibodeau favorite.
Here’s more from around the Atlantic:
- Nets sharpshooter Joe Harris will be available on Friday for the first time in nearly a year. Harris, who underwent two ankle surgeries last season and missed this season’s opener due to foot soreness, said he’ll play tonight after being listed as probable, tweets Brian Lewis of The New York Post. The veteran forward last played a regular season game on November 14, 2021.
- After a “workaholic” summer in the gym, Sixers star James Harden feels rejuvenated, he told reporters on Thursday, per Tim Bontemps of ESPN. Hampered by a hamstring issue last season, Harden has looked like his old self after signing a new contract with Philadelphia this summer, averaging 33.0 PPG, 8.0 APG, and 8.0 RPG on 57.9% shooting in two games against tough defenses (Boston and Milwaukee).
- As expected, Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin has sold his 10% stake in the Sixers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, who says that 76 Devcorp chairman David Adelman bought a “substantial” share of that stake. Adelman’s real estate development company is working on a plan to build a new 76ers arena in downtown Philadelphia, Wojnarowski adds.
Where’s that guy at who called harden overrated? Come eat some crow, he’s looked great
Leading his team to 2 losses is great?
Knucklehead no player leads his team to a loss while playing as well as the BEARD has. If you hate the player because hes everything you are not, then its personal and you need to find a shrink.
Umm, except of course that’s exactly what he did. (FYI, winning is the goal, not best stats in losses).
Over…. rated…
Empty calories…
Not a 16 game player…
Team mates never stay happy with his ball hogging game…
Embiid got booed… Looks like Dwight Howard in the Houston and they’ve lost their games…
The 76ers have joined the Lakers, Nets and Knicks as jokes for the season…
Yup… “looked great”
Two games in and bill Walton has spoken.
Tobias Harris average per game
13 points
He can improve
What teammates dislike him? Seems like old teammates like to play with him
I can’t fathom why any coach would play Grimes ahead of Cam. He’s better than Grimes in basically every way. Taller, longer, quicker, more athletic, better shooter, better finisher, better ballhandler, better/more willing passer, better rebounder & with only the possible exception of MRobinson he’s prob the best defender on the team. If Thibs dw play the boy they should fire him straight up. NYK needs Cam to develop into an all-star. They don’t have much of a future (next 5yrs or so) if that don’t happen
Come on Sank, do you even look at stats before you blindly go to bat for you ATL boys? In what way is cam a better shooter than grimes, besides free throws which is a microscopic sample size at the nba level for grime. True shooting goes to grimes, fg% grimes, 3pt % grimes. Rebounding is debatable, they have a borderline identical rebound percentage and grimes is strictly a backcourt player while reddish has played a lot of forward. I don’t know how to measure passing willingness, but I would guess assists would be a good place to start, assist % goes to grimes too. While reddish does commit turnovers at a higher clip, but that could be because he is more aggressive. You casually ignore work ethic in your argument as well. Everyone has been praising grimes for his work ethic and getting better while reddish is still struggling to crack a rotation in his contract year. Not saying one or the other is better, but there are clearly available arguments to play grimes over reddish
No lol I don’t look at stats before making comments. I have seen both of these guys play a lot, in hs/fiba/college/pros. Let’s just say it like this, Cam is definitively a better scorer than Quentin Grimes. Grimes has scored over 20 once in his career. Cam just did it off the bench in 1st gm of the yr & has multiple 20+ gms in the playoffs alr. From watching these 2 guys whole careers it’s not debatable at all who the better rebounder or more willing passer is lol. You are going strictly off stats like video of these guys playing basketball don’t exist. It doesn’t take an extremely detailed look into Cam Reddish’s life to see how unbelievably hard this kid works. An open eye is very, very often too much to ask in situations like this tho. Seriously just watching him play on Wednesday night on national TV is all you had to do to understand that its ludicrous & beyond disrespectful to question Cams work ethic. It takes thousands & thousands of hours to be able to do the things he was doing in that game, specifically the finishes at the rim in traffic. He’s very clearly alot stronger than he’s ever been & he’s been getting stronger his whole career. Tbh Cams biggest problem (other than bad luck/timing with injuries) is lack of mental focus at times. Like I said I’ve watched a lot of Cam thru out his career but these things seem like they should be obv to anyone who watches him play even a few times & he’s been on TV alot the past 5yrs or so. You’re going off what others are saying about Grimes but criticizing Cam for not being able to crack a rotation lol. You realize he was in the rotation in Atlanta from his 1st gm until he was traded & was a starter ahead of Bogdan & Huerter until he got hurt… I like Grimes, he was a key piece of 1 of my fav college teams of the past 10yrs & he’s gonna be a solid pro. Cam is better than him in each of the ways I said earlier & this has been true for yrs. Grimes & Cam are both extremely hard workers. Just look at Cams body thruout the yrs & his body on Wednesday & the way he had multiple and1s finishing thru contact. That’s the fruits of work ethic right in front of your eyes that you can’t see bc you come in assuming the boy is lazy
Bro, you gotta chill. I am sorry if you have watched these guys since they were playing in preschool, but those stats don’t matter. The big show is the only thing that matters now. I never said cam was lazy, so I don’t know where that comes from. But, he is fighting for a rotation spot, no ifs ands or buts. He’s not in Atlanta anymore, so who cares what he did there. He barely played last year on his current team and was very vanilla in the preseason. He wasn’t guaranteed minutes until someone just got hurt. The article was literally about who would lose rotation minutes if reddish keeps playing this well when grimes comes back. Those are the truths.
Nah man if you saw Cam before he hit puberty you would understand. Stop relying on adult statistics to make arguments.
The BEARD looks fantastic, jojo looks out of shape, disinterested and unable to adjust to his new thumb. Doc should be looking for a new job as he can’t figure out Embid is a post player, how to use his bench and who can’t play defense.
Celtics and Bucks miss starters
Coaching strategy looks really bad
Losing two games against two elite teams doesn’t say much. But having two really good games doesn’t either.
When Beard was at his peak his durability was almost as impressive as his talent so I’ll be looking for him to keep this level of consistency—I remember him having a 3 game stretch right after being traded to PHI where it looked like “old Harden” too. And then…
…he shot 4-18 vs the Spurs, leading them to a 3rd loss.
