OCTOBER 16: The Thunder have officially signed Joe, the team announced in a press release. Oklahoma City won’t have to finalize its cuts until Monday and has a full 20-man roster for now.
OCTOBER 15: The Thunder are finalizing a multi-year contract with Isaiah Joe, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Swingman David Nwaba will be among the players waived to make room on the roster, sources tell Charania (Twitter link).
Joe cleared waivers earlier today after being released Thursday by the Sixers, who selected him with the 49th pick in the 2020 draft. The 23-year-old shooting guard spent the past two years in Philadelphia and averaged 3.6 points and 1.0 rebounds in 55 games last season.
Nwaba was acquired from the Rockets in an eight-player trade in September after playing 46 games for Houston last season. Trey Burke and Marquese Chriss remain on Oklahoma City’s roster, but with more cuts remaining it’s possible that all eight players in that deal will end up on waivers.
I was hoping he would come back to Philly on a 2 way deal, oh well. I think this is a good spot for him. Hoping he is able to carve out a role in the league
A little surprising, with all of their wong depth right now, but at the same time its jot surprising, as I think he has value around the league, in which case they can either turn him into another asset, or maybe use him in front of 1 of their young guys, and figure it out later. Still think it was dumb of Philly not to play him in situations they needed to, and even dumber to let him go, especially now when they need those positions even more
Where was he going to play in Philly? C’mon I’m a Joe supporter but it was smart/reasonable to give him limited time based upon his production, lack of defense and minimal ball handling. I like him, think he has potential and hope this works out for him…but he is like our 13-14 guy on the floor in most cases.
You can agree to disagree about his skillset. Should have played when Danny Green got hurt in the playoffs against Atlanta, and should have at least been a wing option off the bench, which they need, outside of just Thybulle there, and they also should have kept Queen
So if we kept Joe, and kept Queen which one of our guaranteed contracts (neither of them had a guarantee) should we have cut? Makes no sense from a roster or salary cap stand point.
Again I like Joe but right now he is decent (he should be better than he has performed in 3 pt %) shooter. But he does not create his own shot, his ball handling and playmaking skills are minimal. And he is a minus on D. Presuming we kept him (I like having the 15th spot open for flexibility and trade deadline deals and late season but out options)….where was he going to play? We are much deeper this year.
I like him and hope his game grows but there is not even a niche role he would fill for us this year. I hate losing him, as I get invested in our team…but this is good for him and the right move for the team…unfortunately
You’ve asked me this question 4 times, and I have answered it every single time. We obviously disagree on his skillset
I’ve asked twice…you still have not answered once…that’s fine just kind of curious why you would bother to post on a b ball forum if you are not looking to actually discuss it.
You didn’t even try to answer or elaborate on who we should have cut if we kept Joe and/or Queen…Just don’t see why you are on a forum to give an opinion but not willing to discuss said opinion??? Good luck and have a great day
But it’s all good. Have fun posting your thoughts without engaging in a dialogue.
I have answered all 3 previous times
They shouldnt have ever signed Harrell, and they should have moved or cut Korkmaz and Bassey, and tried to potentially move Shake Milton as well as Korkmaz, b/c he isnt as necessary with Melton there. As I’ve said, Korkmaz isnt necessary on this roster anymore, and both Joe and Queen give more versatility than him, and are better defenders. You would prefer to trade him, but if that wasnt possible, cutting him would have still been fine to keep those guys for significantly needed wing depth, outside of Thybulle
