Knicks power forward Julius Randle has been enjoying a solid run as a play-maker for New York in this young NBA season, writes Ian Begley of SNY.tv. Reserve combo guard Derrick Rose appreciates the improvement.
“The way he’s reading the floor is totally different,” Rose raved. “His passing has been unbelievable. Understanding that we want to get up a certain amount of threes and he’s finding the shooters.”
With starting point guard Jalen Brunson function as the club’s primary passer, Randle has become a supplemental ball-handler among the starters, which appears to be a better fit for him.
There’s more out of New York:
- Though Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau remains focused on the defense, the team is developing on the offensive side of the ball early in the season as well, writes Steve Popper of Newsday. The team has been significantly faster-paced and more pass-happy than last year’s incarnation, per Popper. New York is fifth in scoring and 17th in pace after ranking 29th in pace during the 2021/22 season. “It’s not just playing fast, and you don’t want to take reckless shots, but you got to move without the ball and you got to move with pace,” Thibodeau said. “And so, getting it up fast is the initial part, but creating the movement is the secondary part that’s equally important, and then when we put it down and we drive the ball, attack the rim.”
- Knicks forward Cam Reddish, who will be a restricted free agent this summer, has enjoyed a stellar start to his fourth NBA season. His effort in practice could be a key factor in his play so far, per Zach Braziller of The New York Post. “It’s what a guy does in practice every day,” Thibodeau said of Reddish’s performative improvement. “Usually, if you practice well, you’re gonna play well.. He’s gotten a lot better offensively and defensively… And a big part of that is, I think, him getting comfortable with his teammates, his teammates getting comfortable with him. His attitude’s been great. Just keep working.”
I’ve said it since we got Jalen. Obi1 is a better option at PF. He runs the floor. And will thrive with a guard who KNOWS how to get him the ball. Randle plays well. We can get value back. Cause it looks like Thibs is seeing it in Jalen too ……. just saying !!

RJ and Brunson will thrive once Randle is out of the way. You can’t win with Randle being a big part of your team.
Obi is cast well as a backup pf. With Robinson as center they need a big who can create his own shot and act as a secondary ball handler. That’s not Obi.
He can do that with Hartenstein in the second unit (basically doing what Mitchell does on the first unit)
Also he has great chemistry with IQ. I wouldn’t want to split them
Really NS practicing makes you better.
News Flash ……
I hope Cam has finally woke up. Cause he does have the talent and size for that 3 spot.
Rooting for him.
This seems like an article of common sense..
1. Practicing hard makes you better.
2. Becoming more accustomed to your teammates equals better chemistry.
3. Having an actual point guard with vision makes those around him better.
B. An offense flows better when players look to set up their teammates.
C. You play at a faster pace when your lead ball handler constantly pushes the ball up the court.
All of these things can be accomplished by acquiring the right leader and PG for your team. I’m not saying Brunson is Chris Paul, but he can have that same winning effect for the Knicks, and so far the difference is quite clear.
Everyone knew they needed a floor general, I’m just glad they finally got one. Now, the Knicks can get the most out of their talent up and down their roster.
Are you watching Mitchell. DM is having a great start. 32 a gm, goes for 44 mins and 37 pts tonight. In a win over Washington.
How good is the European point guard The Knicks are stashing overseas ? Does he have a future in the League ?
The offense looks smoother, there’s more confidence in the shot making. Much more movement without the ball. Connected defensively with active hands. All of these things are connected, go hand in hand. That’s why everyone has shined someway or the other. And we still haven’t even seen Grimes yet. I believe we’ll have a top 3 bench if we don’t already. Lots to be enthusiastic about. GO NY GO NY GO
Hartenstein is so much better than Noel as a backup C. The Brunson effect is obvious. Randle got and read the memo on how to improve for this team. RJ will be there in the end, don’t worry. If this team plays with continued effort and passion on both sides of the ball, we will surprise MANY teams. One of the top Eastern Conference teams WILL fall off (76ers), so the door will be open for a top 6 seed.
