Bojan Bogdanovic is 33 years old and entering a contract year with the rebuilding Pistons, but he still may have a future with the team, writes Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. After being acquired from the Jazz last month, Bogdanovic has made an immediate impact as both a player and a veteran leader, and coach Dwane Casey hopes he’ll be re-signed next summer.
“I’d love to have him back,” Casey replied. “He’s a free agent. Hopefully, he has a good experience with us and finds a good home with us. Everybody needs a guy like that who knows how to play and can shoot the ball. Hopefully, we can entice him to stay. If he doesn’t, he helps us, and we help him. He’s a pro. He’ll have a big role for us this year.”
Utah had serious trade talks with multiple teams before reaching a deal with Detroit. Sources tell Scotto that the Suns discussed offering Jae Crowder, Dario Saric and draft compensation, and the Lakers discussed a deal that involved Russell Westbrook and unprotected first-round picks in 2027 and 2029, along with several others that included Jordan Clarkson, Mike Conley and a combination of Malik Beasley and Rudy Gay.
Bogdanovic wasn’t ready to answer questions about his future, but he told Scotto that the Pistons’ interest is flattering.
“I’m here only for a couple of days, but if they’re open for that, we’ll see what’s going to happen,” he said.
There’s more from Detroit:
- Casey wasn’t discouraged by the Pistons’ 21-point loss to the Knicks in Tuesday’s preseason opener, according to Mike Curtis of The Detroit News. With the regular season less than two weeks away, Casey is more concerned with player development than trying to win. “What exhibition season does, it tells us what we need to work on,” he said. “In exhibition, I don’t get caught up in losses. I get caught up in what you put on video. It gives us a lot of teaching points to look at on the video in exhibition.”
- An ankle injury forced Cade Cunningham to miss the preseason as a rookie, but he’s healthy and focused this time around, Curtis adds in a separate story.
- James L. Edwards III of The Athletic breaks down Jaden Ivey‘s 16-point performance in his first game. The No. 5 pick in this year’s draft was able to put constant pressure on New York’s defense and made good decisions with the ball, but he needs to improve defensively to stay in front of NBA guards, Edwards states.
Which former/current Pistons guard would you rather have on your team if you could have him his whole career, Allan Houston, Joe Dumars, Cade Cunningham, Rip Hamilton, Vinnie Johnson, Jaden Ivey? Rank a top3 if possible…
Dave Bing, Isiah, Cade ……
Allan Houston if he don’t get hurt.
Gotta believe Bogdanovic is gone at TD. This is a big yr for Hayes. He’s gotta step up and get noticed. He can also show for other teams. I like Pistons young talent.
Doesn’t sound like they don’t want to trade him unless Bogey decides he doesn’t want to stay by then. I do know that Bogey likes to win. That’s one of the reasons he left Indiana and to play with Gobert and Mitchell. Suppose they could trade him to Minnesota? Gobert does help offset Bogey’s weaknesses.
As for the Lakers, they apparently offered all sort of things, but their ownership would get in the way of what Pelinka probably really wanted to do. If they don’t want to stink they should just let him do his job, hands-off.
Seen a couple off season rumours linking Draymond to Detroit.
He’s achieved everything possible while at GSW, now on an expiring deal and just had another altercation with a teammate. Maybe it’s time for him to have a new challenge and help with the rebuild. He’s one of the smartest players in the league, with a wealth of experience he could teach the young guys. Returning home to Michigan would be good for him and because they are such a young team with cap space to spend he could get one last good deal.
Pistons could wait till the offseason in FA or after the Poole incident even try trade for him. They have young players, picks and contracts to ship.
I’d suggest Killian Hayes, Bojan Bogdanovic and 2 second round picks for Draymond.
Detroit would be very interesting lining up Cade Ivey Bey Dray and Stewart. Two young extremely talented guards with Draymond to help them run the offence. Stewart and Bey offer some floor spacing for them too. Defensively Draymond is the leader but Cade is good with his size, Bey is good and Stewart does well too.
Off the bench you’ve got Corey Joseph, Alex Burks, Kevin Knox, Marvin Bagley and Jalen Duren.
For GSW Bojan should fit in well with his efficiency, versatility and outside shooting. It really helps open up the 4 spot. So you should see more minutes for Jonithan Kuminga, Looney at the 4 with Wiseman. JaMycjal Green is there too and Patrick Baldwin Jr. Killian Hayes is also a very good addition as GSW has moved to go younger. He’s good defensively and just needs to work on his shooting and there’s no better place for that.
Think it could be a really good trade for both sides. However with that incident you don’t want to rush things, probably better to have a couple in house meetings and talk things through. Cause an unsettled stroppy Draymond wouldn’t be a good investment
You must be an MSU homer. Draymond is nothing but drama and that’s the last thing a young team needs.
MSU homer? Yeah obviously you haven’t been round here long.
Draymond has been nothing but drama? He had an altercation with Poole and he’s admitted he’s wrong and apologies and so far he’s handling it right to get that sorted. He had a fall out with KD too a few years back but aside from that he’s been great.
He’s one of the smartest guys in the league basketball IQ wise. He’s one of the best leaders in the league on and off the court at both ends of the floor. He’s one of the most competitive players in the league and so far in his career has been apart of the most successful team ever. Yes he’s caused a couple issues in the past but to write him off as nothing drama couldn’t be further from the truth.
Imagine him heading home and accepting to be part of a rebuild. He’d be an awesome leader for that young team, he’d help all those young bigs be better at both ends (Bagley, Livers, Duren, Stewart). On the court he’d make the offence better, he’d make the defence better and overall the team would be much better.
I could see them as a play in side with Draymond
Draymond has been nothing but drama. He got into it with his coach, he got into it with Durant, he’s gotten into it with Poole. The Warriors are basically admitting they have been covering up his behavior. I wouldn’t want Draymond on the Piston’s. I feel his shallow ego would hurt the team.
