OCTOBER 9: The deal with Cauley-Stein is official, the Rockets announced in a press release.
AUGUST 12: The Rockets and free agent center Willie Cauley-Stein have agreed to a one-year contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Terms of the deal aren’t yet known, but Charania suggests that Cauley-Stein will compete in training camp for a spot on the regular season roster. That means it’s almost certainly a minimum-salary deal and likely won’t be fully guaranteed.
Cauley-Stein, who will turn 29 next Thursday, appeared in a total of 20 games last season for the Mavericks and Sixers, playing a limited role. In 2020/21, the big man averaged 5.3 PPG and 4.5 RPG in 53 contests (17.1 MPG) for Dallas. He has also spent time with Sacramento and Golden State since entering the league as the sixth overall pick in 2015.
The Rockets currently have 20 players under contract, so they’ll have to waive or trade someone in order to make Cauley-Stein’s signing official.
Chriss would be a good pickup for the Bulls if HOU is not going to keep him. Decent rim protector for situational minutes.
What pushing people
Why keep him. Would love to see Boban perhaps stay. But with Rockets am curious is Matthews part of team still. Will Martin Jr. be traded or something even. Just trying to see who will be starters, bench or extra bench for games out of reach where pull starters and main bench too somewhat. Not sure what things will look like but hope this next year or so can get a team set to compete going forward.
Always thought Willie could be an elite rim protector. Just doesn’t seem to have the drive. At 28 it just might be the end for his NBA career.

This is why I always say. We don’t know their real drive. Some players are born with it. Some develop it. Others just get paid. I do t see no reason. He couldn’t be as good as JaVale.

I think OKC has now waived Sterling Brown. Doc Rivers and Philly should do Brown a solid and sign him. Brown and Rivers are both from Maywood, Illinois.
Luke Adams wrote this piece. It just goes to show you lots of sports writers don’t know a thing about what they are writing about and their editors must be non existent. The players from Dallas in the Christian Wood trade were traded to OKC along with Nwaba except for Boban.
That section of the story was from August 12, when all of those players were still Rockets. I’ve removed that paragraph to avoid the confusion.

Even I saw that the original article was from August 12th. Then I think the trade in question was september 30th? And then as the other fellow mentioned, Sterling Brown was cut October 1st?
Not sure about this move. Makes as much sense as extending KPJ and playing him next to Green. I like Smith/Green combo
