Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are being eased into the season but that will change in the near future, Anthony Slater of The Athletic tweets. Thompson had 18 points in 20 minutes and Green added four points, five rebounds and five assists in 25 minutes against the Lakers in the opener. The minutes restrictions on them will be lifted in a couple of weeks, according to Warriors coach Steve Kerr.
We have more on the Warriors:
- Thompson heard of a report that he planned to retire after two more seasons. He shot that down, Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area tweets. “There’s a report out there – I have no intention of retiring in 2024. If you write some dumb (stuff) like that, be held accountable,” he said. “That’s crazy. Just because I didn’t play 5-on-5 doesn’t mean I’m gonna retire. That is absurd.” Thompson, whose current contract expires in 2024, was addressing comments made by Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle during a radio interview on KNBR.
- Andrew Wiggins has a feeling of contentment after signing a four-year extension, Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic writes. “I feel like here — you know, some people will say like, ‘We’re all just one big family.’ But they don’t really say that here. They just show it,” he said. “You know what I mean? They just show it. Families love to be here because they treat everyone so good, like a top-notch organization. And these guys, everyone wants to win, we’re all on the same page, from top to bottom. We all want to see each other succeed. It gives me peace.”
- The Warriors showed their depth with an 11-man rotation in the season opener. It won’t be easy to fit all those players into the rotation throughout the season, Slater notes, but Stephen Curry believes each player can continue to contribute until the postseason. “You have 11 guys that probably deserve the opportunity to play and are going to be key for us to be the team that we want to be throughout the regular season and then identify what the best rotation is come playoff time,” he said.
Wiseman-Kuminga-Wiggins-Moody-Poole is a top 4 seed this year if that was the main 5, lol GSW is gunna lose less than 10 games this season.
Smoking that good kush again I see
You know they have the good stuff in lexington.
come back to me big boy
Watching the Clippers tonight they sure are deep. They have a lot of names on that bench. They just keep rolling out in waves.
Warriors probably feel the same way that their bench is very strong. The five young guys age 25 and less. Poole Divincenzo Moody Kuminga Wiseman. Then a couple very young guys Baldwin Jr, Ryan Rollins looks like a possible good player then Andre Iguodala. Warriors are crazy deep also.
Looking like a Clippers Warriors Western Conference final? Lot of teams have a say but are the other teams as deep and can withstand injuries that are bound to happen to every team?
Gary,
You’re right. Both teams are a legit 11 deep. Clippers were smart to take a chance on Wall, he looks determined. With that kind of depth, both teams should be able to limit the starters’ minutes and hopefully be healthy at playoff time. That bodes well for a WCF matchup.
Gary, what’s really scary is you omitted J Green and he looked pretty good v lakers
When you are capable of paying in luxury tax more than the total team cap salary, you can have 11-12 NBA starters on your team and will always have a tremendous advantage. Even a team as rich as the Lakers will find it difficult to compete with that level of spending.
NBA basketball franchise is a business. Some owners peel off some profits to sustain a lifestyle. Other owners have other businesses and use their NBA franchise profits to pour back into the franchise.
Joe lacob’s group bought the Golden State Warriors 12 or so years ago for 450 million. Now the franchises worth 4 billion dollars. Why would you not put some of that money back into the team and build a winner? And I dare say most other franchises have at least doubled or tripled in value from their purchase price 10 or 12 years ago. It all starts with ownership.
It’s called good drafting and trading. Not like the Lakers of old who just signed every great player during free agency.
Jerry West built several teams including these current Warriors for the most part. He deserves a ton of credit.
buddy, lacob, debartolo, steinbrenner and others want to please their fans. In lacobs case, even though he’s taxed. Other owners hoard and ignore fans. Those owners won’t spend to reward fans. Why are they not questioned for underspending but lacob is questioned for overspending? That lacks reason. And like RChris said, lacob spends to keep the players they drafted and developed (exception is Durant who begat Wiggins and Kuminga) Other owners go outside organizations to overspend. I struggle with why lacob is vilified.
