After feeling some foot soreness following the Knicks‘ 106-104 win over the Sixers last Friday, starting shooting guard Quentin Grimes was rested for the team’s subsequent two contests out of an abundance of caution, per Fred Katz of The Athletic (Twitter link). As Katz tweets, New York head coach Tom Thibodeau indicates that Grimes was a full participant in the club’s team practice on Thursday with no restrictions.
Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News reports (via Twitter) that Grimes had two MRIs on the sore foot — he’s not suffering from plantar fasciitis and doesn’t require surgery.
There’s more out of New York:
- Knicks reserve shooting guard Evan Fournier has yet to play more than 14 minutes in a game since being moved to a bench role. Zach Brazilier of The New York Post suggests that Fournier may be in jeopardy of losing out on any rotation minutes due to his unproductive efforts as a backup. Thibodeau spoke diplomatically about Fournier, emphasizing his openness to the role reduction. “Some guys are on the outside of the rotation, but those things change really quickly,” Thibodeau said. “Whatever role you’re asked to play, star in that role. Embrace the role. Put the team first. I think we have a number of guys that have done that.”
- Fournier is not the only Knicks veteran dealing with slashed run time. Injury-prone reserve combo guard Derrick Rose has also seen his on-court time reduced. Rose weighed in to the media recently on the shift, Bondy tweets. “I’m letting everybody be, man,” Rose said. “The last guy [Thibodeau] wants to hear from is the guy who has been in the league for 15 years going in and complaining and bitching.” Rose hasn’t played more than 18 minutes for New York all season. “I’m in the unknown,” Rose added about his current role with the club, per Steve Popper of Newsday (Twitter link). Through 11 games, the 34-year-old is averaging career lows of 12.7 MPG and 6.0 PPG, with .382/.355/1.000 shooting splits.
Is an Evan Fournier and Derrick Rose for Russell Westbrook a Win/Win???
Not unless picks (at least 1) come back
Which way? That deal is terrible for the Lakers. They are better off waiting for Westbrook to expire.
Salary wouldn’t match in that deal.
No.
Knicks played well in Minny. Then get wooped by Nets. Their D is not there yet. You’d guess Mitch being out is main reason. But it’s been like this since start.
Fournier is playing his way out. He’s still doing the same things on D. You’d think he’d learn by now. Rose is still valuable. He can help a contender as a backup. But he needs mins. With Jalen playing 34 mins plus. Not going to get them here.
Fournier, Rose, Quickley, Randle should all be shopped. I’d include Mitch in there if it’s for Ayton. Knicks still have all their picks. So they can and will do something. Jan 15 is the next big trade date. So I guess we will see who plays their way out.
I think the Knicks played well because the Wolves are having issues of their own. Agree on all though, if there’s a market for any of those players, they should consider making the moves now rather than the deadline. There’s still time to change the course and compete if the right trades are made.
Right now, minutes on the perimeter for the NYK are tight, and will only get tighter once Grimes gets back. Fournier’s play is the cause of his ever decreasing minutes. It’s not just his poor defense. Sloppy on offense too. Rose, on the other hand, was the NYK best player per minute until the last couple of games. As long as he stays healthy, I think his minutes will increase as they get deeper into the season.
I’d rather see McBride get the backup mins. He’s a lot like Jalen, really. Rose and Quickley are more valuable as part of trade to me. I love Rose. Be nice to see him in another Finals.
I know you remember how much I wanted Grant. Even before he went Detroit. Well
Tonight – 27 pts, 8 reb, 4 ast, 4, stl, 1 blk
In a 106 – 95 win over Pelicans in NO. No Dame no Nurkic, no Payton.
He’s a stat filler with solid D. Blazers got him back for what ????
July 6, 2022) – The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired forward Jerami Grant and the draft rights to Ismael Kamagate from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for the draft rights to Gabriele Procida, a 2025 first-round draft pick (via Milwaukee), a 2025 second-round draft pick and a 2026 second-round draft pick, the team …
Two way players is how you build a team. And when that player can give you good offense. It’s that much better. Sure would of looked nice in a Knick uní.
Not getting Grant, or Hart from Portland for a while. Atleast not while they are surprising everyone in the NBA world with a hot start & winning record despite having multiple injured players in their starting lineup.
Maybe in another 20 years the Knicks will be something other than mediocre
Maybe in that time you will finally learn and respect this game Troll
So all those great signings in summer 2021 – Fournier, Rose, Burks, Noel, Kemba amounted to nothing but salary waste. Knicks had to dump Kemba and Noel to clear space, other guys are negative value deals.
But everyone kept praising NY for smart moves and how these contracts can be combined for a big trade)))
Knicks been in rebuild since 1999
Get it right. Jalen was signed cause of Noel and Kemba trade. We all knew Kemba was a gamble. We are the richest team in the NBA. Money is never a problem. Just an inconvenience at times.
You wouldn’t need to trade dump anyone if you had cap space
Yeah Geeeezzzz ,We wish every day Kemba and Noel were still on this team. Great Point …..
Knicks need to work Rose into the guard rotation, Brunson playing well but Rose is an important part of the team.
Fournier would be perfect for Dallas. Jason can get his best basketball out of him.
