Could Carmelo Anthony follow Dwight Howard‘s footsteps and resume his playing career in Taiwan? The Tainan TSG GhostHawks are hoping to sign Anthony to a contract, RealGM relays via Focus Taiwan.
GhostHawks head coach Liu Meng-chu said the team’s ownership has given the go-ahead to make an offer to Anthony, who hit the free agent market this summer.
Howard signed with the Taoyuan Leopards on Monday.
Anthony, 38, appeared in 69 games with the Lakers last season, averaging 13.3 PPG and 4.2 RPG while coming off the bench in all but three of those games. The 10-time All Star played two seasons with Portland prior to joining Los Angeles.
While there has been plenty of speculation regarding Anthony’s free agency, there have been no known firm offers.
The six-team T1 League will soon start its second pro season.
“averaging 13.3 PPG and 4.2 RPG while coming off the bench”
In 26 mins a gm. Is a solid stat. For bench scoring. Wonder why nobody wants him. Never been a big Mello guy. His best days. He was a serious scorer. If he had Kobe’s attitude and played D. He could have been a top 10 all time definitely top 20. As is he’s lucky to make top 100.
The problem with Melo is he didn’t play D when he could and now he can’t play D though he tries, but he was one of the best scorers in the history of the game and he’s definitely a 1st ballot Hall of Famer.
does dude realize Taiwan is about to get seized by China?
this is a guy who got in trouble for having Marijuana at an American airport
Better than half the dudes currently on rosters and even with zero D
He most definitely isn’t. Doesn’t like to pass, doesn’t like to play D, and doesn’t like to mix it up for boards.
But he’s def better than Griffin at this point. Still surprised he wasn’t their Gallinari replacement.
Not at all. Melo is washed
So now it’s gone from “he’s better than half the players in the NBA” to “he’s better than Blake Griffin”
That didn’t take long.
He’s the guy getting the ball passed to him, when he’s open to shoot. Who is he supposed to be dishing dimes to?
Yeah you’re right. Me and every GM in the NBA are wrong.
Love the five year old stereotypes about Melo still being spouted like they’re new.
If you’ve watched the last three years of Melo’s career, he’s become a spot up shooter who doesn’t demand the ball much. He’s putting in as much effort as possible in each game. Is he a terrible defender, yes, but he works harder now on defense than he did when he was in his prime. Add in the fact that he’s one of the most liked guys in the L leads me to wonder why someone hasn’t signed him yet.
I wasn’t a fan of Melo’s game in his prime, but I credit him for committing to his new role.
Ever heard of a role player? Melo doesn’t need to pass or try for rebounds, he’s a spot up shooter and an offensive spark plug. That’s his role.
His vet minimum salary requirement per CBA rules is “costing” him…. might as well pay a young guy less money
Great point !!
Why Howard, Melo, Cousins dont have nba contracts??? It’s not just about physical talent. They are still prima donnas who require trivial attentions, and they are minus in the locker rooms. It’s a team sport, they no longer sell tickets, and coaches, gms dont want to deal with them. They are only worth 10 day contracts at season end.
Melo a locker room problem and Prima Donna???
Take a quick look around the web and you’ll see he’s one of the most liked guys by other players. Guys didn’t necessarily like playing on the court with him in his prime, but you’ll have a hard time finding a guy who says anything negative about him personally.
Melo and Howard must have used up most of their money to want to play in new Taiwan league. We all know it’s not because they love playing basketball. Too bad.
Just hang ‘em up Melo, you don’t need this. Always loved Carmelo and always preferred him over corny boy Lebron.
In addition to CARMELLO, the GhostHawks also have interest in: Heath, Reese, Mr Goodbar, Cadbury, Hershey, and other “SWEET” players.
ghosthawks? yes please.
The Hornets must contract Melo, he can score and be healthy more time than Gordon Hayward
Melo ain’t going to Taiwan. They want to make him an offer, but he’s 100% going to say no. The guy didn’t want to go to OKC as it would put him too far away from his wife and kids, Taiwan’s a little further than that.
