After New York’s 113-89 victory over Atlanta on Wednesday, Knicks wing Cam Reddish was asked for his thoughts on being pulled from the rotation the past couple games, writes Steve Popper of Newsday (subscriber link). He says he did his best, but admits consistency was an issue.
“I was doing what I could to the best of my ability on both sides of the floor,” Reddish said. “I’m gonna say it again, all of the other stuff is out of my control, whether I’m doing this or doing that on the floor, my role, all that stuff, isn’t necessarily up to me. I’m just coming in and doing what I’m told to do.
“I mean, (my play has been) up and down. Just like everything else, just up and down. I just try to make the most of my opportunity while I was out there. And that’s that.”
Responding to a report that the Knicks are working with his representatives to find a new home for Reddish, the 23-year-old essentially repeated what he said in September, that he didn’t request a trade. The thing is, in neither instance did the reports indicate that he had formally requested a trade, just that his camp preferred a change of scenery.
Here’s more on Reddish and the Knicks:
- The Lakers, Heat and Bucks are among the teams that have expressed interest in Reddish since the Knicks acquired him from the Hawks in January, though that interest isn’t necessarily recent, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv. Begley also reports that that the Lakers and Knicks explored a deal this month that “would have required a third team to complete,” but it’s unclear if those talks involved Reddish.
- Second-year guard Quentin Grimes has taken advantage of his increased playing time recently, per Mike Vaccarro of The New York Post. After playing strong defense against the Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell on Sunday, Grimes helped limit Trae Young to 19 points on 20 shots on Wednesday and scored a season-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, Vaccarro notes. “He’s huge for us,” Julius Randle said of Grimes. “He competes on the defensive end of the floor and that makes a difference.”
- In case you missed it, we passed along several Knicks-related items yesterday, including rumors involving Derrick Rose, Immanuel Quickley and Evan Fournier, in addition to Reddish.
Begley’s sources are truly remarkable. Just surprised they’d let him go public with the fact that the LAL and NYK discussed a deal in the past month. As soon as Berman weighs in (sort of) with who in each the FO’s used to work together, or was involved in the drafting of a player on the other roster, the coming trade will be clear.
Free Obi!
Lot of ink being spilled over the last two weeks regarding the Knicks and trades, but at the end of the day, probably only Rose and Reddish get traded, and probably not for anything of real value (likely only 2nds).
Randle, Fournier, IQ, and probably RJ and Mitchell Robinson *should* be traded, but won’t because they either have very little value, have a big contract, or both. RJ and Randle have two of the lowest values in the league. Even Westbrook has more value because his contract is expiring.
Love how a lot of ppl in NY want randle gone, but he was the reason why they made the playoffs 2 years ago smh.
What’s 2 years ago got to do with today tho ?
You’re shaking your head at me for wanting Randle gone? Did you watch his atrocious performance in that playoff series? Or last year’s performance? Or this year’s? Have you seen the size of his contract? Do I need to go on or do you understand yet why his performance two years ago is not a factor in wanting him gone now? smh
Randle is at a prime for a trade so the time to trade him is now. BUT if he continues to play well in the next five games I say we keep him unless a favorable trade offer manifests like an unprotected 1st and an expiring with a backup pf behind Obi who would then be our starting pf
Crazy, right?
Same w/ how the Lakers want to trade Russ, even though he averaged a triple double two years ago
It was an outlier season.
The Knicks need to call the Sixers. Reddish for Thybulle and Shake would be great for both sides.
Zach >>>> to the Knicks ……..
Being a knicks fan you would think you would suggest a good trade . Ya go get super max lavine and be stuck with that albatross of a contract while restricting any future moves and no playoffs to boot. Very Knick of you
Knicker : for who? Rj and pick?
Fournier & Rose are gonna be hard to get rid of. NY has time until 2024 when their draft assets mature, so if Fournier & Rose ride the pine for 1 more season it won’t be the end of the world, just wasteful, and frustrating for NY fans. But its NY, salary & cap seem to not matter as much there, as it does in the smaller Markets.
I like Cam and believe he can be a results type of player if given 22 minutes per game as partially a sg position as well as sf and even pf spots. Please don’t trade Cam! If we do I would include rose and Fournier. I would want back an expiring and an unprotected draft pick. Our starting five is solid. Randle is at an all time high in regards to trading him because he’s been playing incredibly well and I also NOW have my reservations on trading him if he continues playing at this level. The chance we would be taking in not trading him is if he becomes a selfish player again. I really don’t know what to do there right now. I would wait until five more games and if he’s doing stellar we keep him otherwise trade him and add Fournier and Rose and a protected 1st for like an expiring Westbrook and buy him out plus a first unprotected.
Reddish would be a perfect fit on the Lakers.
Good chance he lands there simply because they were originally interested in dealing for him the first time around and the market for him is likely going to be pretty cold overall.
