The Knicks are working with Cam Reddish‘s representatives in the hopes of finding a landing spot for the fourth-year forward, a source tells Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News.
A former 10th overall pick, Reddish emerged early this season as a key part of New York’s rotation, even starting eight straight games in November before suffering a right groin injury that sidelined him for three contests. In total, he has averaged 8.4 PPG and 1.6 RPG on .449/.304/.879 shooting in 20 appearances (21.9 MPG) this season.
However, Reddish’s playing time declined steadily after he returned from that groin injury and he received his first DNP-CD of the season on Sunday vs. Cleveland.
As Bondy notes, while Derrick Rose spoke to reporters this week about accepting his demotion out of the rotation, the Knicks have declined to make Reddish available to the media for three straight days, including on Wednesday ahead of a matchup against his former team, the Hawks.
We already knew, based on previous reports, that the Knicks had discussed Reddish in recent trade talks. The reported involvement of his agents in the effort to find a trade partner is a signal that his camp may feel a change of scenery is in Reddish’s best interest, which is similar to what we heard approximately three months ago.
As a 2019 first-round pick, Reddish is in the final year of his rookie contract and will be eligible for restricted free agency at the end of the season. He’s earning approximately $5.95MM in 2022/23.
For his part, head coach Tom Thibodeau said this week that Reddish’s demotion was about shortening the rotation and giving the Knicks the best chance to win, adding that one DNP-CD didn’t mean the 23-year-old wouldn’t seen any playing time going forward.
“Rarely is anything ever permanent. When another opportunity comes, be ready,” Thibodeau said, per Peter Botte of The New York Post. “That’s all … right now (Reddish and Rose) are not in the rotation but be ready, you could be thrown into the rotation at any time. In the meantime, be a great teammate, help us in practice. That’s what you do control. I think that’s an important part of being a team.”
I thought he played decently. Thibs should be the one out the door. They need a younger coach that the guys can relate to more. The old school yelling thing is over
Couldn’t agree more with everything you said.
I think he really sucks to be honest.
Yeah Reddish isn’t good, there’s a reason he doesn’t play when teams are trying to win.
You obviously didn’t watch the stretch he had before he got hurt this last time he singled handedly won them a couple games
Agreed. Was watching a Knick game and all of sudden you hear this gruff barking and think that there is a dog loose in MSG but then you realize that is just the HC of the Knicks “coaching” from the sidelines.
What a minute just 2 years ago all Knicks fans wanted to build a Tibs Statue, what has happened?
Eh if these babies played better maybe Thibs doesn’t yell at them
You can yell at an orange as much as you want, it still won’t make it an apple….
Give him apples then!
Agreed
Why not give Thibs a team that is defense-first which is where he excels?
I just want Thibs FIRED before the trade anyone! He is not the coach for this team!
Back to the A for Justin Holiday please
Nunn and Pat Bev for Reddish and Rose. Lets go!
I’ll like Cam Reddish for Kendrick Nunn.
Los Angeles Lakers need to make 1 trade this season.
They need to get rid of Kendrick Nunn and send him to the New York Knicks for Cam Reddish.
Cam Reddish only 23 years old and 6’8 220. He can guard three to four positions.
He just needs a change of scenery.
21.9 minutes
8.4 points
1.6 rebounds
1.0 assists
0.8 steals
0.4 blocks
44.9% FG
30.4% 3pt
87.9% FT
Is this the part where we pretend his rebounds, assists, FG% or 3PT% are good
Horrible trade lol and people give me crap
The guy just need game time, he is young send to hornets at lest they need players the have a hospital lineup there.
I think the Rockets should be all over any young player with some talent that needs a change of scenery, like KPJ. If it doesn’t work, you let him walk. Low risk, high reward.
Being a Knicks fan is the most toxic relationship I have ever had. They love wasting talent.
Reminds me of the curb episode where Larry’s friend committed suicide Over the Jets
You can have pat and nunn give us reddish and Evan
Reddish for Thybulle would be too perfect. Make it happen!
theres gotta be some locker room politics involved because its not making sense to me
Thibs is the best coach the Knick have had in the past 15 years. If he doesnt think someone is good then hes not gonna play him. Most of these Knick fans wanted the Knickd to keep Barret instead of trading him for Mitchell. These were the same Knick fans that wanted Fizdale as a coach. Fizdale might be the worst coach I’ve ever seen
Steve Nash
“Thibs is the best coach the Knick have had in the past 15 years.”
This is not necessarily an endorsement of Thibs. They’ve had some truly awful coaching since Van Gundy left over 20 years ago.
Thibs being the “best” coach the Knicks have had in the past fifteen years doesn’t make him a good coach. It’s a low bar to clear.
His coaching style wears on players. I know there’s a segment of fans that love it, but they’re not playing for the guy. Coaching is about knowing your players and managing people just as much as it is about drawing up plays.
Reddish played well in spurts, but overall the kid’s been a disappointment in his 3+ years in the league. He was profiled as a good 3 and D guy, and he hasn’t shown either at an adequate level.
And Thibs needs to go.
Reddish wasn’t profiled as a 3 & D guy. He was profiled as a Paul George type.
He hasn’t been able to score well enough to justify high Usage, and he’s not good enough at 3 & D to otherwise contribute to an NBA team.
His path to playing time was the team trading Barrett and that didn’t happen.
Barton for Reddish
Reddish still riding the hype of playing with RJ and Zion. Everyone talks about him as a 3 and D wing but he’s not particularly good at either.
Hot take but I bet if you gave him 34 minutes per game and 17 shots per game he’d basically be what Kyle Kuzma is and some people believe he’s worth 20-25mil. Whereas Reddish looks like 3.5mil is fair rate.
I love seeing the come back stories like DSJ making it back into the league, or Kemba getting another chance, hopefully Wiseman proves everyone wrong next and starts dominating. But at the same time I really dislike guys that overvalue themselves, think they are celebrities, think they are entitled to something.
Reddish no doubt has potential but for me he’s basically worth a second round pick at best
Thibs has a 3 year window before his style becomes toxic.
Please send him to the Bulls New York, they can have Dragic..lol
Let him run with their second unit, and he’ll get plenty of scoring opportunities..
Dosunmu
LaVine
Demar
Patrick Williams/Reddish
Vucevic
Caruso
White
Green
Reddish/Patrick Williams
Drummond
Or Reddish can start in place of Patrick Williams, because they need someone that is more aggressive and not so passive in that #4 spot.
Although, Patrick’s defense is light-years ahead of Reddish’s, and they need his defense with DeRozan, LaVine, and Vucevic all in their lineup already.
Reddish’s scoring would pair extremely well with Colby White in the second unit, and then they’d have Caruso, Green, and Drummond to help round things out defensively…
Reddish rebounds worse than a PG and you think he’d be able to start at PF. He’d make Patrick Williams look like Patrick Ewing.
Lol Vooch and/or Drummond and Green can do all the necessary rebounding..
I can’t believe they play Green at the 4 as it is, so just figured it couldn’t hurt..
Although, I will admit, Green is one fiesty little dude, and he does still manage to get his fair share of boards and blocks somehow..lol
