The Warriors have liked what they’ve seen lately from second-year forward Jonathan Kuminga, Anthony Slater writes for The Athletic. Kuminga scored 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting in Tuesday’s win over Charlotte, but it was his defense that drew praise after the game.
“He f—ing locks up now,” teammate Draymond Green said. “I think it’s very impressive to see. Not that you never thought he was capable, but to see the maturity and buying into a role. Like, ‘Oh, that’s my role, that’s what I need to do. I’m going to go do that better than anyone.’ We’ve seen his impact over the last few weeks. He’s hawking every point guard he gets on.”
As Slater details, a steal Kuminga made against Hornets forward P.J. Washington in the fourth quarter with the game tied at 101-101 prompted head coach Steve Kerr to compare the 20-year-old to one of the Warriors’ veteran leaders.
“He looked like Andre Iguodala on that play,” Kerr said. “That’s an Andre-type play. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Andre’s been mentoring him throughout the season and last year.”
Here’s more from around the Pacific:
- The Warriors got some good news and some bad news this week on forward Andrew Wiggins, who has been sidelined since December 3 due to an adductor strain. Wiggins has been cleared to return from that injury, but is battling an illness, which will keep him out at least through Wednesday’s game against Utah, tweets Slater.
- Kings head coach Mike Brown has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols, the team announced on Tuesday (Twitter link via James Ham of The Kings Beat). Assistant coach Jordi Fernandez is coaching the team in Brown’s place, but Brown is experiencing only mild COVID-19 symptoms and hopes to be cleared to return soon, a source tells Marc J. Spears of Andscape (Twitter link).
- In the past, LeBron James‘ comments to the media about his teams’ shortcomings have often spurred his front offices into action, but his calls for help this season appears to be falling on deaf ears, according to Kyle Goon of The Southern California News Group, who explores whether any roster moves are coming for the Lakers.
Simple question and not political. Why is everything now covid-19? Why don’t people have the simple flu or flu-like symptoms as in years past? So every single flu now is suddenly covid-19?
Covid-19 isn’t the Flu. Two different viruses. Covid rapidly mutates. It hasn’t gone away.
They are different viruses. COVID has mutated in many splinter forms, most of which are less lethal but more contagious. Thus it is prudent to isolate if you do not want to infect your whole team and have them out for multiple games. It may not be lethal, but still knocks you out like any virus for a few days.
They also test for Covid so that’s how they know silly
For NBA purposes: Someone who feels sick is tested for COVID-19. If they test positive, they enter the league’s health and safety protocols (like Mike Brown). If they test negative, they’re simply said to have a “non-COVID illness,” which could be the flu, a cold, or a wide variety of other non-COVID ailments. There have been plenty of those non-COVID cases this season.
Okay I understand. I guess I’m just asking why nobody has the “flu” anymore. Seems like it’s all under the umbrella of covid-19? Thanks for all the replies and explanations. Good stuff.
As someone who also plays fantasy sports, I’ve seen plenty of references to the flu/flu-like symptoms. It’s just the media that tends to focus more on covid-19.
Hi. I’m hearing a lot about the flu locally. Not sure about national news.
cvs.
I think this tells you how active the Warriors will be at the trade deadline. They probably won’t make a move. Kuminga and Wiseman are getting better. Iggy will come back. Curry will be back from a mid-season rest. The team will continue to jell. They might add a veteran after the buy outs. They will be dangerous in the playoffs.
With the payroll so far over the cap i don’t see any deal happening. One of the 2 way players will take the open spot since they will be running out of games they can play.
Both Wiseman and Moody had an good game last night and contributed to the win. They hustled, got some key rebounds and baskets. Wiseman’s confidence is building and he should not go back to Gleague. He deserves to stay and play. As for Kuminga, he’s breaking out and playing like a veteran!
Nice to get a win even though the three ball was not falling.
Yes one key buyout guy needs to be added here. A veteran.
The kids are looking better every month but come play off time we don’t need any stupid ejections, stupid fouls, dribble off foot out of bounds, or rookie mistakes. One more veteran, and he of the buyout variety.
It’s likely they convert both Jerome and Lamb, so they would have to lose someone else (2 someones if Iguodala remains).
We will see, I agree they’re lacking height that Bjelica provided last season.
Yes because at the moment I really can’t think of anyone that could be available in march. Your scenario is more likely.
They will convert 1 at most, and possibly neither depending on various factors even if they play well. Warriora wont and dont have to make that decision before the feb 9 trade deadline.
Jk finally getting it!
What do you mean finally? He just turned 20.
Like what we seen tonight. It’s hard for a vet to get to know the warriors system nevertheless a 2nd year player with a year of g league experience to finally catch on. If you were in the Bay Area you would know by listening to our own sports casters say the same thing….
