Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins, who has missed the last five games due to a right adductor strain, was cleared on Thursday to resume participating in practices and shootarounds, according to the team (Twitter link).
However, Wiggins will be unavailable for a sixth consecutive game when the Warriors visit Philadelphia on Friday and Draymond Green (right quad contusion) will be out as well, per the NBA’s latest official injury report. Klay Thompson is listed as questionable due to left knee soreness, so Golden State is at risk of being without four starters — Stephen Curry, of course, is expected to miss multiple weeks as a result of a shoulder injury.
As Anthony Slater of The Athletic (Twitter video link) relays, Curry spoke to reporters today about his shoulder and expressed relief that he won’t have to undergo surgery, which might’ve forced him to miss several months. Asked if surgery is a possibility after the season, the Warriors star didn’t rule it out, but said that’s not the plan for now (Twitter links via Slater).
Here’s more from around the Pacific:
- With several regulars battling injuries, the Warriors recalled center James Wiseman and rookie guard Ryan Rollins from the G League, the team announced on Thursday in a press release. Neither player has seen much action at the NBA level so far this season, with Wiseman appearing in just one game over the last month while Rollins has played only 43 total minutes since opening night.
- The Lakers are unlikely to make a trade during the next two-to-four weeks, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports within his look at the team’s approach to the deadline. Although the club would like to get a deal done sooner rather than later, it makes sense for Los Angeles to wait out the market in case more sellers emerge.
- Kings head coach Mike Brown has been fined $25K by the NBA for “aggressively pursuing and directing profane language” toward a referee, the league announced in a press release. The incident, which resulted in Brown’s ejection, occurred during the third quarter of Sacramento’s win in Toronto on Wednesday.
- Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Reggie Jackson, and Luke Kennard were among the Clippers who missed Thursday’s game, but the team is optimistic they’ll all be back soon, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN (Twitter link), who says their absences on Thursday were more about managing prior injuries than dealing with new ones.
EJ Gordon to LA for Pat Beverley, Kendrick Nunn & a future 2nd… Houston could give Nunn a look to see if they might wanna resign him. Pat Bev would be a perfect mentor to the young Rockets guards & could prob help toughen up Jabari & Sengun as well… Lakers get a very good bench shooter/scorer with loads of playoff/big game exp & get to keep their future 1sts & their cap flexibility this summer
Good trade idea. Beverly will probably be a coach one day.
He could start out at his alma mater, Arkansas. Musselman is building a monster down there. Beverley could help Ronnie Brewer with recruiting & eventually work his way up the ladder just like he did as a player
No one wants Nunn he can’t shoot
Who’s been saying they should gm manage Klay. And make him the sixth man. You need him for playoffs. There is no need to play him over 30 mins. 24-26 mins for the season is enough. Have him strong for playoffs.
SF – Kuminga
PF – DirtyDra
C – Wiseman
SG – Wiggins
PG – Curry
This would be my starting five. Young guys need mins. This should have started the season. You think their record (14-15) would be any different??????
No. Your lineup wouldn’t change anything. They struggled last year in the regular season. Their biggest problem is that the young guys haven’t shown consistent effort. They have played their best when Draymond start playing with second unit and barking out the orders. Divencenzo understands what needs to happen. And he is starting to show leadership in this area. When Iggy comes back, that’ll further push the learning process.
I’ve been saying bench Klay
Have Curry and Poole start two elite scorers. Teams won’t be able to stop these two just like they couldn’t stop the prime of the splash brothers. Curry receives so many double teams and they won’t be able to do that with Poole and Wiggins on the wings who can both shoot the open shot or create for themselves off the dribble. Which means Curry gets less attention, Poole gets to play off the curry gravitation and he shohld thrive
Wasn’t finished was trying to fix should.
Was going to say it’ll then allow Klay to come off the bench and be the veteran presence with Donte and Kuminga. He helps the defence of the second unit and like Curry will draw teams attention and create that gradational pull on players and that’ll just make Donte and Kuminga jobs easier. Think you could even play Klay as the 3 and have two guards in Donte and Moody in the second unit.
However as for Wiseman, I just think moving him on and getting back a good package is the best thing for that situation. He doesn’t fit Kerrs system, they don’t seem to trust him enough, he just needs a fresh start, and GSW could do with more pieces.
For example if you go James Wiseman to OKC for Darius Bazley, Mike Muscala and a first round pick.
Just an example but Muscala would give you a small ball 5 that can shoot the three. GSW teams have always done well with a shooting big man. Bazley just seems like he could be a good fit in GSW, and if he shows signs of improvement who knows between him and Kuminga with Dray likely opting out at the end of the season, idk just a good insurance policy. Plus you get a first out of it aswell.
Think with everyone out currently and Curry looking longer then your going to need better depth cause what you have now without curry you’ll be lucky to make the play in with
It’s Funny, How the NBA comes down quickly on the Players / Coaches and hands out Fines, but, when are they going to start cracking the whip on these Officials ?? And why is it forbidden to talk about them ?? What makes them so special ?? Just maybe if they did their job correctly, them people wouldn’t be so quick to judge them. They have blown way, way too many calls lately that have cost several teams games !! How about fining them when they blow a call.
Warriors mind as well start Wiseman and give him every opportunity to succeed and let Looney finish the game. Let’s make this a turning poimt for Wiseman’s season and not look back.
Look how he has been playing in Santa Cruz. Why fix things that aren’t broke?
Warriors can be a better team with Wiseman in the rotation. Kerr’s gotta give him more playing time and let him play thru some mistakes. Wiseman needs to have more confidence anf it’s up to Kerr. Warriors were going to lose the game anyway tonight, so why not let him play 30 minutes???
So, what do you think he is doing at Santa Cruz?
