Warriors forward Draymond Green has been fined $25K for “directing obscene language toward a fan,” the NBA announced (via Twitter). The incident occurred at the beginning of the fourth quarter during Golden State’s loss to Dallas on Tuesday.
The four-time All-Star is averaging 9.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 7.1 APG and 1.0 SPG on .602/.320/.697 shooting through 20 games (30.7 MPG) for the defending champions. His percentage from the field (60.2%) is a career high.
Green can become a free agent in 2023 if he declines his $27.6MM player option for next season.
Here’s more on the 11-11 Warriors:
- Second-year forward Jonathan Kuminga had a mini-breakout in Tuesday’s loss, playing 26 minutes and recording 14 points (on 6-of-8 shooting), 10 rebounds, two blocks and a team-high plus-21. Head coach Steve Kerr was extremely pleased with his effort, per Tim Kawakami of The Athletic. “Best game I’ve ever seen JK play,” Kerr told reporters in Dallas, “because everything he did contributed towards making an impact on winning. His defense on Luka (Doncic) was fantastic, he was disciplined, he stayed down, he challenged shots. … He stayed patient offensively, he just took the shots that were there, he knocked down a big 3. JK was fantastic; he’s really coming into his own, and that’s very exciting.”
- As Kawakami details, the reason Kuminga has seen minutes in recent games and Moses Moody and James Wiseman (currently in the G League) have not is because he’s learning that less is more when it comes to his role. He’s playing with energy, defending, moving the ball quickly, not trying to force shots, and has been a willing screener and cutter. Kawakami believes Moody will get another shot at rotation minutes at some point, but he needs to show that he can “make quick decisions, move the ball, defend without fouling and keep the mojo going” in order to regain Kerr’s trust.
- It’s up to Wiseman to dominate in his G League stint to convince the Warriors that he should get another opportunity for playing time, writes Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. His performances with Santa Cruz have been mixed thus far, according to Poole, who notes that Golden State’s second unit has stabilized with Green leading the charge alongside reserves Jordan Poole, Donte DiVincenzo, Anthony Lamb, Kuminga and occasionally JaMychal Green. How long Wiseman stays in the G League will be a good indicator of “how hot (his) competitive fire burns,” per Monte Poole.
I expected Moody to take awhile to develop into a solid player, but I’m honestly a bit surprised with what us going on with Wiseman.
I know due to injuries and whatnot he’s still a pretty inexperienced player, regardless of how long he’s been in the league, but idk, I guess I just figured his talent would make up for any lost time.
The Warriors are even going so far as to avoiding even having a true backup Center rather than playing Wiseman, and I think that speaks volumes. Heck, Looney, their only true Center, is only averaging 23mpg, so that makes even more of a statement against Wiseman’s lack of playing time.
One would think that Kerr would want to have Wiseman as an option when they’re at a rebounding and size disadvantage, but that’s clearly not the case, for now at least.
Idk what their plan is for Wiseman, but so far he’s looking more and more like a lost asset. Which, I just think is crazy, because Wiseman seems to have plenty enough talent to at least succeed as an NBA role player…
Maybe he turns it on down in the G league, they bring him back up, and he gives them a productive 20mpg, but right now, that seems awfully optimistic..And that’s something I never thought I’d be saying..
Anyone else have any thoughts on Wiseman and what’s going on in GS??
Wiseman has only played like 50 games over the past 3 seasons. He needs more time.
GSW got this chip on lock, everything is going to be a-ok. Wiseman is playing great in the g league, so he’s not totally a lost cause. He’s always suffered from a lack of games played and is still only 21.
Wiggins has definitely been awesome since last years playoffs and is playing a much more consistent game and better defense this year compared to last. Draymond is scoring again, Klay has cooked a bunch of teams, Poole has been inconsistent but still cooked a few teams. Curry has been the GOAT. I hate seeing 2way players in playoff team rotations when Moses Moody is there, but Kerr is an idiot who will never not use 2way guys in important games at important moments which sucks for fans who pay to watch NBA players, not Euro leaguers.
Play Kuminga and Moody more, and Lamb and Jerome less, and GSW will be dominant again. I dont know why Kerr forced us fans to endure this stupid experiment, which Lamb did nothing to earn over Moody and Kuminga.
Wiseman did great against the kings the other night. Curry is the goat, draymond is excellent, klay needs to keep working on his recovery and should be back to normal by the all star break hopefully.
You should be more thankful for your head coach. He’s is an insufferable person but he has brought you an unforgettable run congrats.
@Ghostrobot – you dont even mention his name. that coach owes his entire career to MJ, Pop and Steph and I will never ever say Kerr is good at anything.
Its 2022 and he still refuses to control Draymond, Kerr is an awful coach and GSW would have 6 rings right now in the Curry era if they never fired Mark Jackson, the man who always respected Steph, unlike Kerr, who spent years acting like Steph is merely a slightly better Steve Kerr the player. Puke. Kerr is a moron.
Hows that hateraid taste? Mark Jackson is utter trash. Its why nobody else will hire him as a head coach. Kerr has weaknesses, but without him you never get the beautiful game motion offense that truly unlocked Curry and Dray…
I honestly cant point to any decisions Kerr has made that I can poke a hole in. He experimented last season and found the recipe for a title through testing in season despite never being able to have his big 3 play with the others. Are there individual game calls he has gotten wrong? Sure, but Kerr has done a good job building a good locker room for years, and is willing to try outside the box stuff like switching defense on the fly that was crucial to beating several teams in the playoffs last year…
A-ok until the Bully feels emasculated again and punches another team mate or goes for the groin of another player in a game again… Volatile is the nature of the Warriors…
Career year for Draymond and he ain’t gonna get a max from any other team… And the Warriors would be insane to give him a max… Meyers n co may let him think he’s getting the max to keep him under control until the end of the season…
But if Draymond gets any sniff that they aren’t giving him the max… Then it’s popcorn time for the average NBA fan..
If you are at work and a co-worker says he’s gunna bang your mom in a heated moment, fists are going to fly – Poole was doing the bullying, you are wrong.
You clearly are letting Dray live rent free in your head, Poole and him have great chemistry on the court, Poole was just in a little shooting slump that he’s already out of. Dray will get something close to a max from GSW, he’s staying no matter what he gets.
Wiseman isnt playing “great” in the G he is ok, but still looking poor on D and not fully unlocking on O.
Its tough since the vets on the SCW arent looking to just feed him since they are playing for themselves. The G is less relevant for a big that relies on lobs than a ball handler like Poole.
He spent 2 years watching tape while rehabbing and is thinking way to much about what he is supposed to do rather than just doing things. Reps should really help and I would look at him again after 40 games played this season once he has worked through the log jam of information he currently has.
You want to see him dominate some G games where he is scoring 20+ and staying out of foul trouble.
SAS—> Wiseman + GSW 2023 pick (protected)
GSW—> Jakob Poeltl
I think this deal gets done if it one the table.
Right now he is out with a knee injury so until he can show its not worse than being out a week no way a team would trade for him. Big men and knee injuries are dangerous.
LMAO @cgd buy a clue sometime! Never, ever happening and Poeltl is probably out for the year anyway.
No ones getting traded, only morons think GSW will trade their “2 timelines”.
Its unlikely they make a major trade. It is just to hard to find any deals that work for both sides on value. No one thats a true star can be acquired without Steph/Klay/Dray contracts since Wiggins cant be dealt because of his extension. Even if you aggregate all the kids it only matches like 20M.
They will sign guys through on the 15th spot, and may get to the point where they cut someone like Rollins, who looks like hot garbage, to add another vet during the deadline and buyout market. Also J. Green has looked pretty bad so I would consider cutting him if a better stretch big comes available. I would check on Melo as a bench scorer. Andre when he returns could be good playing 12 min a game as the connector when Steph sits so Dray can go back with the starters.
The big trade will be if Poole/Klay and to a lesser extent Wigs defense just get themselves back together. They dont need a huge addition just normal production levels from half the top 6.
The Warriors have a one foot in, one foot out aporoach with Wiseman. What they are getting in return is the same.
They nor he know what to expect from the other.
It’s a disservice to both.
He would be a great addition for the Thunder.
James Wiseman you are on the clock.
James Wiseman is 21 years old with very few actual pro games under his belt. He needs more seasoning, and GSW dont need him to be elite this season. They are cooking everyone with smallball lineups.
Juice M Wah you are on the clock – make a better post than this one next time.
Huge kudos to Draymond for being on the best of the best behavior so far this season. He’s not being drama, stopped with his podcast and literally keeping his mouth shut and playing good ball. Hope he can keep it up rest of the way!
GSW have this weird way of developing players. Like Wiseman and Moody, Kuming and Poole both spent time in the G League and now days Poole is a contender for 6th man and just signed a huge extension. So obviously it worked really well for him. They’ve also done well with second round, undrafted and journeyman talents and put them in the G league and then they’ve gradually earnt minutes in the rotation. Damion Lee, Gary Payton Jr, JTA, Quinn Cook for example.
But I don’t think it suits everyone and James Wiseman is going to be made the example. He’s someone that had he gone to a team like Orlando, Detroit, San Antonio or whatever would’ve got 20+ minutes straight away and might’ve started off slow like a lot of rookies do but by now in his 3rd season would’ve figured it out and be a key starter most likely. Deandre Ayton was never in the running for rookie of the year but now looks every part of a top drafted centre. Wendell Carter Jr again started off slow and the bulls traded him away and he’s now turned into a solid player for the Magic.
I think GSW need to just sell up on Wiseman. It’s what he needs and it’s probably going to Ney them their best return if they do it sooner rather than later. Next year he will be on an expiring contract and be in rookie extension talks and who knows what his second contract will look like. There’s a chance he walks for free so I think it’s better to move now.
