Warriors two-way wing Anthony Lamb was named in a civil lawsuit filed this week against the University of Vermont, according to reports from The Athletic and ESPN’s Kendra Andrews.
Lamb isn’t named as a defendant in the lawsuit, which accuses the school of mishandling reports of sexual harassment and violence on campus. However, the suit does revisit a sexual assault allegation against Lamb related to a 2019 incident. The Warriors addressed that allegation when they signed Lamb in the fall and did so again on Thursday.
“Anthony is not a defendant in this recent lawsuit and, to our knowledge, he has never been charged with any wrongdoing in any legal case,” the team said in a statement. “Prior to signing Anthony in September, we did our due diligence with the NBA and his prior teams, as we do with all players. If any new information comes to light, we will certainly evaluate it and act accordingly.”
Lamb, who never faced any criminal charges as a result of the accusation, referred to the allegations as “patently false” and said he would welcome any investigation into the matter. His accuser stated in the lawsuit that she was dissuaded from seeking a formal investigation by Vermont’s athletic department.
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- Third-year center James Wiseman was reassigned to the Santa Cruz Warriors following a brief return to the NBA, tweets Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. Poole adds in a follow-up tweet that Wiseman figures to continue spending time in the G League until there’s a “broad belief” he’s ready to contribute at the NBA level.
- Asked at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year awards how much longer he expects to play in the NBA, Stephen Curry suggested that retirement isn’t something he’s thinking about yet. “I don’t see myself slowing down anytime soon,” he said (Twitter video link via Charlie Walter of KPIX 5).
- In an in-depth feature, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports looks at how Jordan Poole, who signed a four-year extension in October, is preparing to help bridge the Warriors’ present to their future as the team’s stars exit their primes. “Steph’s doing a really good job of mentoring him,” Kerr said. “… There’s a lot of growth ahead for Jordan, which is exciting because he’s already very good.”
I feel like the Warriors are ruining Wiseman if he isn’t already ruined. Tough team to watch this year
how do you ruin a guy who isn’t ready for the NBA?
How’s he not ready for the NBA?
In college 3 years ago he put up 20-10 in 23 minutes for the 3 games he played before being suspended.
Anthony Davis put up 14-10 in college in 32 minutes and was number 1 picks and all rookie first team. Boogie Cousins 15-10 in 23 minutes, 5th overall pick and all rookie first team. KAT 10-7 in 21 minutes, number 1 pick and rookie of the year. Joel Embiid 11-8 in 23 minutes all rookie first team.
Nah wasn’t ready ….
Comparing rookie seasons
Rookie season, 21 minutes per game, 39 games 27 as a starter, 11.5 points and 6 rebounds per game.
Evan Mobley all rookie first team last year 15-8 in 34 minutes. Brandon Clarke 12-6 in 22 minutes all rookie first team. Jaren Jackson Jr 14-5 in 26 minutes all rookie first team. Same year Marvin Bagley 15-7.5 in 26 minutes all rookie first team. Lauri Markeneen 15-7.5 in 30 minutes all rookie first team.
But nah definitely wasn’t ready..
Saying he isn’t ready is the laziest excuse. Comparing his college numbers and rookie year numbers with other bigs of recent times he was doing great. Had he not got injured and continued to develop he’d easily be averaging 15-10 if not 20-10 right now.
Now he’s perfectly healthy it’s the GSW who are holding him back. Clearly they have little to no faith in him (5 minutes with 3 of their starters out and now dropped to the G League again). If I were him I’d be requesting a trade immediately. It’s just not a fit, and that’s not a knock on either him or the team. GSW have won titles with less skilled, more physical, veteran centres (McGee, ZaZa, Bogut, etc). Wiseman needs minutes in the floor and to be aloud to make mistakes in order to grow and get better and GSW aren’t allowing that.
Would love to see him given a chance somewhere else.
San Antonio, Utah, OKC, Houston, Washington, Indiana to name a few spots
Normally I’d disagree no matter what the sport when it’s involving such a prestigious franchise, such a quality head coach, etc., but they aren’t doing right by Wiseman when it comes to his development. And it is glaringly obvious..
Kerr wants his players to fit his system, end of story. He might make some small adjustments for their skillsets, but for the most part he places his players in their best roles to fit his system.
With that being said, Kerr has never had a player like Wiseman, and quite frankly, it shows.
If you think I’m wrong look no further than how Kerr is developing Kuminga this season, and how he’s choosing to “develop” Wiseman.
He’s forced Kuminga to fit the role he’s defined for him to be successful on the team, and thankfully Kuminga has been able to grow and develop in that role.
Although, honestly, I’d argue that they’re somewhat still holding him back as well. It really seems like Kuminga only gets fed the ball, and has multiple plays ran for him when Curry, Thompson, and Draymond are out or two out of the three aren’t playing.
If Kuminga wasn’t such a naturally gifted and versatile defender, he wouldnt be playing, and he’d likely be in the G-League as well..
Kerr doesn’t care about how versatile Wiseman is on offense, he isn’t going to play him until he becomes a low post, hard-nosed, gritty defender that excels at guarding the paint, getting rebounds, and just your typical old-school Center.
There are a few exceptions, but mainly his opportunities on offense would simply come from offensive rebounds, putbacks, and the occasional lob throwdown. Offensively, his main job has to be setting hard screens, rebounding, and passing.
That is what Kerr wants from his Centers, so that is what he demands. Wiseman can be that type of defender in time, but he’s also an excellent, versatile offensive weapon NOW.
I do not understand, why not use his strengths, even if it is just with their second unit, and allow him to grow defensively!?!? It isn’t like they are loaded with talented players at the Five anyways. Heck, they ONLY HAVE LOONEY!!
Either way, I highly doubt anything is going to change, so I have to agree that Wiseman is simply better off going to a team where his talents will be utilized better.
Idk, maybe I am wrong and off-base, but the way I see it is if you aren’t going to use your young and talented players TRADE THEM, but don’t insult them just by saying they aren’t ready. That’s lazy, and it’s an indictment on Kerr as a coach honestly…
Bottom line is has to learn to play defense and rebound no matter what.
He rebounds the ball fine and his defence really ain’t that bad
Dang you guys have a lot to say…I’m legitimately impressed. My fingers would hurt from all that typing :)
Another good post Richard, Kudos
Was a very curious draft night in general that year. I never saw the need for a C but that LaMelo/Ant draft was so strange –
Word is they tried to trade back, maybe they should have accepted a little less
GSW is just such an anomaly to analyze, hard to draw rules that would apply to a different franchise. They have played top hill and only top hill for a decade now with some help from deep pockets and draft day bullseye hits late – Idk if its even worth trading him this month as his value seems shot
Show me where he can play extended minutes and 1) not get shoved around by bigs 2) be able to play extended minutes 3) not get hurt then I’ll say they need him to play more. He’s right where he needs to be right now.
Rookie year James Wiseman drops a career high 25 points including 6 rebounds and 2 blocks off the bench in 24 minutes. GSW beat Minnesota 123-111.
Went 9/14 from the floor, 3/3 from beyond the arc, 4/6 at the FT line and had a +/- of +12.
James Wiseman gets a career high in rebounds (11) to go along with 12 points and 2 blocks in 22 minutes of action in GSW 137-122 win over Portland. He shot 6/9 from the field and finished with a +/- of +12. Opposing starting centre Jusif Nurkic played 23 minutes and had 7 points and 6 rebounds shooting 3/10 from the field and had a +/- of -14.
Funnily enough if you look at all his career highs points, rebounds, blocks, assists and steals it all occurs from December 22 to March 27 in his rookie season. In that 3 months window he received 20+ most nights either as a starter or coming off the bench. In April he got injured and missed the rest of the season and the following season. Since then GSW have banished him to the GLeague
But yeah you’d rather have him playing in the g league against Jahil Okafor and other bums
It’s not ideal situation but Gleague is the best option for Wiseman now. He needs to play everyday and be ready for 2nd half of the season and/or someone gets hurt(draymond, looney, JaMychal Green). His opportunity will come this yr. Question is will he take advantage of it like Poole did. People forget that Poole played mostly in GLeague up to his his 2nd yr amd looked lost in nba. Kerr and Myers have plan for Wiseman. Will he work hard and step up??????
Wiseman said the G-league was fun. Getting him game acclimated on the daily is a good idea. He hasn’t done anything regular in a long time
Wiseman is only 21 so there is plenty of time to develop his skills. The skills – and the future – is there, no doubt.
Wiseman got to show me some fire!!!! Something he lost before draft….
Wiseman Is a 7-foot very Athletic Big who can Score, rebound and block, and has the Athletic advantage over almost any Big in the league. Even if he needs polish to fully and consistently translate His moves from college dominance to the NBA, he has already shown stretches during the season that he can handle and win the matchup against very good NBA starting centers (ex. Nurkic AND others).
At that size, age, physical tools and skills, he’s a Big Time prospect with tons of upside. He even now in an adequate could be a really solid contributor.
What GSW demands from their centers can be addressed with far less individual brilliance, just work ethic and accepting their role, with mucho lesser salary and requirements.
Wiseman’s upside Is much, much More than being a Warriors’ starting Center. Looney, Pachulia, Old Bogut, wouldn’t cause any trouble, wouldn’t require one touch away from Steph and Klay.
Wiseman and Kuminga have way more upside than Jordan Poole. Put my sign on it.
