After discussing several possible Cavaliers trade targets on Jake Fischer’s podcast last week, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com expanded on the club’s hunt for a wing in a subscriber-only story on Tuesday, taking a closer look at why Mavericks swingman Tim Hardaway Jr. appeals to Cleveland, why the club is reluctant to part with former lottery pick Isaac Okoro, and much more.
Here are a few highlights from Fedor’s story:
- Pistons forward Saddiq Bey “has some fans” in Cleveland, but there’s still a gap between how the Cavaliers and Pistons value him, writes Fedor, noting that Detroit’s asking price would have to come down significantly for Bey to be a realistic target for the Cavs. That line of thinking applies to a number of other possible trade candidates on the market, including Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma.
- Although Gordon Hayward‘s skill set makes the Hornets forward a logical target for the Cavaliers, his $30MM salary makes him a long shot for Cleveland. Kevin Love ($28.9MM) would likely have to be included in a deal for Hayward, and trading Love isn’t a possibility the team has internally considered, according to Fedor, who has previously reported that there’s mutual interest between the Cavs and Love in continuing their relationship beyond this season.
- If the Cavaliers liked Magic wing Terrence Ross, they could have acquired him “multiple times” in the past, Fedor writes, implying that the asking price was one Cleveland could have easily met. Fedor said on Fischer’s podcast last week that the Cavs don’t have much interest in Ross.
- Fedor identifies Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith and Spurs veterans Doug McDermott and Josh Richardson as players worth monitoring in Cleveland’s search for wing help. He adds that the Cavs would have interest in Timberwolves forward Kyle Anderson and Rockets forward Jae’Sean Tate, but there’s no indication that either player will be available at this season’s trade deadline.
I do reality check
Finney-Smith is not available to Cavs
Cavs can do Okoro for Bey or Kuzma (salary filler needed)
Cavs can trade Okoro for McDaniel and a top-20 protected first.
Kuzma or Bey is the fit. The point is filling the true starting 3 hole. If you’re looking for a 2-3 then LaVert. Defensive upside at the 3 then Okoro. I’d prefer to ship out Okoro for either of them regardless of what they drafted him.

Paywall, Luke.
Pretty sure that’s why there are highlights listed below?
Keep reading that sentence!
Cavs should be pushing LeVert and Okoro to score more. Both need to be more aggressive. And get theirs. Cavs still finding that chemistry. They could use a shooter. I’ve always liked LeVert and Okoro. Both can be starters imo. Mitchell has taken over as #1 option. Mobley too is adjusting. It’s harder for the starters to fit in. So it takes time.
Are you kidding? Okoro is terrible, and LeVert should be the leading scorer on an expansion team.
Obviously not a whiff of truth to any of this, just more lame speculation masquerading as fact.
A lame speculating ….. sounds right
A “JuanaB”
It would be a mistake if Dallas traded Hardaway away.
The Cavs have a pretty decent front office besides getting Spida and keeping their origami big 3 of Garland Mobley and Allen. They are also looking to fill the teams only need at SF and by the looks of it really having a look at a lot of guys.
Crowder, Tate, Bey, Hardaway, McDermott, JRich, DFS, TRoss just to name a few that have been rumoured to the Cavs. Really good names and potentially really good fits alot of these guys.
Okoro and possibly picks for Bey would be a really nice move. Bey is a good defender not elite and is a decent three point shooter. I led still lean towards going for a veteran to run with the inexperienced starters that’s why I like Roco. Crowder is probably too much ego. JRich and McDermotr would be good either or both. Apparently they don’t really care for TRoss, and DFS I think would be to expensive. I’d say Harrison Barnes should be added to their list
Of all 10 names listed, Cleveland should pursue Jae’Sean Tate the most. He’ll help with the OREB and steals because Cleveland is 15th in OREB rate and 28th in steals. He instantly helps out those two categories they struggle in but in exchange will have to deal with his high turnover rate.
Tate hustles.
That’s it.
He hustles.
Caris Lavert for Josh Hart + a developing Blazer player
Uh…right. Precisely what brands of Scotch whiskey and heroin do you propose the Blazers get blitzed on before they become stupid enough to do that deal?
Gotta do something. This team is playing like garbage. I was originally thinking of a way to bring KLove, but his contract is too much right now.
