The Heat are very active on the trade market, Sean Deveney of Heavy.com reports. An obvious area to upgrade would be power forward, with the Hawks’ John Collins a potential target. However, there’s concern within the organization that Collins may not be a great fit alongside Bam Adebayo due to his perimeter shooting issues.
The Suns rejected an offer of Duncan Robinson for Jae Crowder, but Caleb Martin could be substituted for Robinson with center Dewayne Dedmon tossed in to make the salaries work and keep Miami under the luxury tax, Deveney adds.
We have more on the Heat:
- There are plenty of other potential trade options for a power forward but the Heat may have to include an asset or two they don’t want to give up, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald notes. They’d certainly be willing to move Robinson’s contract and Dedmon. They may also have to add Martin or Nikola Jovic into the package, as well one or two protected first-round picks, to get an impact player at that spot.
- While a Kyle Lowry trade can’t be ruled out, the Heat aren’t actively looking to move him, Jackson adds in the same story.
- After hovering around the .500 mark most of the season, the Heat are a season-best four games over .500. Better health has been a factor and Udonis Haslem believes the team can go on a run, he told Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “We’ve been right there. So many games coming down to the last shot even with a decimated roster,” the veteran big man said. “So sometimes you got to look within the lesson. The lesson is, I think, once we get healthy, we’re building some good habits and we’ll be able to put something together here. You look at how Boston started their first half of the season last year and it was similar. So if we get healthy, I think we’re still capable of putting something together here.”
- Considering his past injury issues, Victor Oladipo is surprised he’s logged 30-plus minutes in eight of his last 10 games, he told Chiang. “A little bit, I can’t lie,” Oladipo said of playing extended minutes this season. “But sitting back and really reflecting, you see how much work I put in and how much I invest in my body. So it’s no surprise that I’m still feeling good, and I’m going to continue to keep feeling better as the year goes on.” Oladipo only played 25 minutes in a lopsided win over New Orleans on Wednesday.
Crowder isn’t going to do anything for anyone.
Miami. Stop procrastinating and trade for Collins already. Collins, Adebayo & Butler will make a formidable lineup. Collins, Adebayo & Anunoby would make an unstoppable lineup. Miami’s front office is too timid to even think about this lineup, never mind actually making it happen.
Outside of Jimmy, Bam & Herro what could Miami trade for JC?
If Suns pay Cam Johnson 4-year $96 million, Suns reach luxury tax this summer.
7 players = $162 million
If Suns trade Crowder for Robinson, Suns would pay $45 million tax for Robinson.
If Heat trade Robinson and Lowry to Suns for expiring contract now, Suns would pay $142million luxury tax next season (total payroll $304 millions?)
And then, Suns will sign free agent Fred VanVleet?
So many teams are doing worse than expected with usually bad fits at pf. And there is not many good shooting PF either. And of those PF that shoot well, usually they have even more warts on defense, rebounding, or teamwork. Bogdanovich, phoenix guys, randle, etc.
If teams want change, they’re going to have to break down and settle some. Even if it’s a straight swap of pf’s just for a change of scenery.
Yep everyone wants their 3 and D forwards. But they are scarce. So its time imo for many teams to find a good fit. Not the perfect fit.
Do MIA have enough to trade for Markannen?
Jae Crowder career shooting percentage from 3 is 34.6%, John Collins is 35.8%….
That’s with this year being his worse every shooting season, he’s more often than not closer to 40%.
Not to mention Collins is a much better rebounder, much younger and fits the timeline of Bam and Herro, he’s got the ability to play small ball 5, and is a much greater threat in transition.
Jae is a better defender, with more experience but that’s where the buck stops with him. He’s also on an expiring deal and is proving difficult to negotiate an extension with.
Just trade for John already please
Outside of Jimmy, Bam & Herro what could Miami trade for JC?
Duncan Robinson and 4 tickets to a Pitbull concert.
Apparently there’s a deal already in the table.
JC for Robinson, Martin and a protected first.
It’s Miami that are stalling
That’s b/c that’s a terrible trade for the Heat
Offering up Duncan Robinson’s contract constitutes being very active in the trade market ??
All of this is counterproductive. They need a smallball 5/someone they’re willing to play at the 4 in some lineups, as they rarely use the only options they have there, who usually help them win when they play….
They have the open roster spot they can use at some point when the luxury tax isnt an issue, but they can theoretically use certain guys to include in a trade, if it makes sense, but I personally wouldnt trads Duncan Robinson, kyle Lowry, or Caleb Martin unless it’s for a super significant piece on the wing/4, but even still that would open izsues in other areas.
I dont think the Heat have used their best lineups this season, and I think there are gettable ways to get what they need, without giving up 1 of those pieces.
