Bulls center Andre Drummond is a good candidate to be on the move prior to the February 9 trade deadline, according to Marc Stein, who notes in his latest Substack story that the veteran big man hasn’t been a regular part of Chicago’s rotation as of late.
Drummond wasn’t playing big minutes early in the season either, but has seen his playing time decline further since then, having received a handful of DNP-CDs in January. He has played more than nine minutes in only two games since the calendar flipped to 2023. For the season, the 29-year-old averaging 6.1 PPG and 6.6 RPG in 13.0 minutes per game in 36 appearances — all of those numbers are career lows.
Drummond isn’t on a minimum-salary contract, but his modest $3.2MM cap hit makes him an attainable trade chip for just about any NBA team. He does have a $3.36MM player option for 2023/24, so a club acquiring him would have to be comfortable with the possibility that he’ll exercise that option.
Here’s more for Stein:
- After having previously reported that the Jazz are willing to listen to inquires about anyone on their roster except for Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler, Stein adds a third name to that list, citing a source who says rookie wing Ochai Agbaji also appears to be off-limits.
- The Magic are “welcoming” inquiries on Terrence Ross, Gary Harris, Mohamed Bamba, and R.J. Hampton, league sources tell Stein. Rival teams are keeping an eye on Ross as a possible buyout candidate if he’s not moved by February 9, Stein adds. Orlando hasn’t made a habit in recent years of buying out veterans in contract years, but it’s possible that Ross – who suggested last spring that he’d welcome a trade – could push for a change of scenery.
- Having previously reported that the Suns turned down a trade involving Jae Crowder and Rui Hachimura, Stein corrects the record, writing that the obstacle in those discussions was actually the Wizards’ desire to flip Crowder to the Bucks — the three teams discussed a deal, but couldn’t work out an agreement that appealed to Washington more than the Lakers’ offer.
Magic have been talking about trading Ross for three years. LET THE MAN GO.
He could help a few teams.
Drummond could as well, but I don’t see anyone giving up much for him.
It’s hilarious. Him and John Collins for the last 3 years. Smh
Same thing happened to him in Toronto. He was a favorite for making salaries match in trade before being used for just that purpose.
Andre to the Nuggets please
I would like the Cavs to trade for Drummond. Despite having twin towers, they’re actually ranked 23rd in rebounding. Drummond could be a big help there, and Lopez is just kind of existing, not playing much and not helping when he does. Lopez and a second for Drummond? Maybe two if you have to, but given how little he’s played and the fact that his contract comes with an obvious option for him use…
I like that idea. Or try and get rid of Windler eventually
Last time didn’t go well with Drummond in town. There may be some bad blood. If there isn’t I’m think it’s a great idea.
However this could have been solved easily by just making better offseason moves. Drummond or Derrick Jones Jr would have looked great for the Cavs this year.
Mike Muscala or any stretch big might be a better 3rd big but I’d still take Drummond I he’s available.
Sixers should bring Drummond back. With Embiid out of the lineup no one is above 6,9 and we get killed rebounding. The only reason we traded him was to make the money work for Harden. Give them Kortmas/salary filler and a second rounder or 2 should do it.
You need Drummond. Dwight and Whiteside could be decent as well
Drummond would help the beam team
The lakers should target bamba add some more youth and size
Sixers…..HELLO
Bulls need to trade derozan and vuc for sure. The team is going nowhere. Get value.
I would love for lavine to be traded. He’s insanely skilled, but he is not someone to built a culture around. That’s just what the Bulls need – culture and identity.
The above “big 3” play zero defense, and they complain to refs an abnormal amount while the biggest issues lie within the locker room. These aren’t the ones to build around.
Please keep Caruso, DJJ, Ayo, and Javonte. I like Coby but he still looks unconfident at times. I’m fine keeping PWill for potential. The first five mentioned here play hard and smart. Bulls need to build a culture. Cycling through players won’t do that. Stand your ground, intelligently, and build from a passionate core.
Also, Billy, STOP MAKING EVERY PLAY A DEROZAN ISO.
Knicks should try to trade for Ross, would be a solid wing for the bench unit. D Rose, Reddish and a second or two should be enough
Ross and Harris could be be useful
Of the Magic players listed, Bamba might be worth kicking the tires on for NYK. The depth chart at C is a bit crowded, but I’d still offer up Reddish. Even if he doesn’t play right away, he’s signed on a NG contract for next year.
How many of his rebounds are just missed shots of his to statpad ?
Never the less can’t go wrong with a rebound guy like this in the right role.
Drummond would look good on the celtics
