The Kings are believed to be keeping an eye on Sixers wing Matisse Thybulle, according to Marc Stein, who reports in his latest Substack story that Sacramento is mulling the possibility of pursuing a defensive-minded player on the perimeter.
Thybulle certainly fits that bill — he has made the All-Defensive Second Team twice in his first three NBA seasons. However, his offensive game is extremely limited. He’s averaging just 2.7 points in 12.1 minutes per night (45 games) for Philadelphia this season. The 25-year-old is also on an expiring contract and will be eligible for restricted free agency this summer.
Here’s more from Stein:
- Bones Hyland‘s name has popped up in an increasing number of trade rumors as of late, and Stein suggests that the Nuggets guard has emerged as one of the players most likely to be dealt on or before the February 9 deadline. League sources tell Stein that concerns about Hyland’s defensive limitations and some recent “tensions” about his playing time are factors in Denver’s decision to make him available.
- Stein’s podcast partner Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report said on the first episode of their #thisleague UNCUT podcast that he has heard rumblings all season about certain Raptors players being unhappy with their situations or roles. Stein has heard those same rumblings and says that’s why there has been some curiosity around the NBA about the status of head coach Nick Nurse going forward.
- Some league observers believe the fact that the Nets haven’t had any substantive extension talks with Kyrie Irving is because they’re not feeling much pressure to lock him up early, according to Stein. The thinking is that Irving may need Brooklyn’s help to go to a desired location via sign-and-trade in the offseason, since the teams with significant cap room will be non-contenders.
Irving is a forever 1+1 (team option), he’s going to do something stupid that will make you regret a longer term commitment
Irving has played out of his mind for months, but 95% of the comments will be about gossip, drama, and some past insignificant media hooplah
Why should the discussion be about a couple of good months when he just destroyed an entire season and proved he doesn’t care at all.
You don’t have to die from cancer for it to be a bad thing everyone should avoid.
lol it’s been more than a couple of months. He’s been like this since hs.
When was the last time he played well for 3 straight months? Scratch that. When was the last time he played at all for three straight months?
When was the last time he was suspended for promoting and anti-Semitic video? That’s just drama and insignificant media hooplah to you?
I can guarantee you over the course of his career Kyrie’s played well over a three month period far more times then he’s been suspended for promoting an antisemitic documentary.
When it comes to Kyrie the media and most fans dwell on the negative far more times and for far longer then they even pay lip service to the positive. When was the last time the media really brought up his philanthropy with other than a quick blurb? He and his charities have donated 10s of millions of dollars to soup kitchens, homeless shelters, scholarships and indigenous people.
I don’t agree with his decision last year in regards to the vaccine mandate but he stuck to his guns even though it cost him millions of dollars and a lot of goodwill. His tweet cost him an eight game suspension which for Irving is in the neighborhood of $3.5 million on top of the money he “donated” to the ADL in addition to losing his multi-million dollar shoe contract. The guys paid out the nose for that stupid tweet.
It wasn’t just the tweet. It was how handled the fallout. Acknowledging the mistake would have gone a long way. He didn’t take the chance reporters gave to him to express something other than complete cluelessness to what he had just done.
He tries to pass himself as being all about peace and love. Well how about being humble enough to acknowledge a mistake?
Exactly
You still didn’t say when the last time was ..
Fair point about how much charitable stuff he’s done, and how the media and public tend to harp on the negatives. But he’s also gotten paid a fortune and has gotten plenty of praise too. So I’d say he’s been rewarded properly.
When it comes to actually playing ball, the fact is that it’s been a while since he has played three months straight. You just never know where his head is at, and for him it doesn’t seem basketball comes before anything else. When you want the big contract, you should be putting basketball first.
The Nets aren’t stupid and neither are other teams. It’s a PR nightmare for your business when you have a guy promote crazy videos like the one he did.
Imagine going to your job and telling everyone how great that anti semetic movie is. Imagine someone on Fox or CNN or a politician promoting that movie.
It’s very very bad for your career and place of employment.
So that’s why despite his immense talent, the Nets aren’t rushing to give him a max extension. I don’t think any former player or well known analyst is saying the Nets should just pay him. Everyone kinda knows the high risk he is. Surprised people who post here a lot don’t realize that.
He stuck to his guns…and destroyed a billion dollar franchise’s season. Some would think that was selfish.
Kyrie? Stupid? I think you mean “visionary”…or at least kyrie thinks you meant visionary
Davis and two 2nd rd picks for matisse T? Then trade Holmes and Metu for a better center
Yea Sixers don’t have any use for Davis.
Why ?? You already have one idiot on the team that is defensive and doesn’t score (Okpala), Who barely gets any minuates as it is. Davis is a 3pt threat, but yet, sits on the bench keeping it warm. Thybulle is a SG NOT a Wing. We already have 4 SGs on the team. That is the Problem !! The roster is no where near balanced at all. No SF to back up Barnes, but yet 5 Centers on the roster, 4 SGs. Get a Backup SF And a more productive 5. Get rid of the deadwood on this roster.
Thybulle is a wing/SF
The Nuggets could use a backup big/center with talent…energy and athleticism. I don’t think trading Bones is a good idea unless the return is pretty massive…like a top 7 pick. Bones has shown he’s capable of being the Nuggets backup point guard. Bones may very well become a near all star level point guard in a few years. He may not yet be able to crack the Nuggets playoff rotation…but they’re a championship level team and he’s very young at a position where a lot of players keep improving throughout their 20s. If Murray or Brown have an injury and need to sit 2 or 3 weeks, the Nuggets will be glad they have Bones. If Bruce Brown departs this summer, the Nuggets are going to need Bones next year. Rather than blame all the Nuggets bench woes on Bones, improve the talent. Easier said than done. Although, a legitimate backup big (not DeAndre Jordan) who could run a pick and role with Bones would at least give the bench offense some structure. What about Drummond for a few second round picks?
If the Kings facilitated a 3-way with the Bulls that would be an ideal situation.
Drummond, DJJ, and Green to the Sixers.
Thybulle and Springer to Kings.
(2) Kings 2nds, (1) Sixers 2nd and Davis to the Bulls.
Bones and first for Agbaji.
Agbaji fits what they want, and him and Brown would be great backcourt for future
Trade Thybulle for Davion Mitchell… defense for defense.
I think any deal for Tbybulle going to the kings has to be a three team deal.
Kings want to add defence so they won’t be giving up Mitchell and no one else they have around that 5mil salary mark or below holds any interest.
Suggestion 1
Kings: Mattise Thybulle
Sixers: JaVale McGee
Dallas: Terrance Davis and Montrez Harrell
Kings get their guy, Sixers get a solid back up centre for Embiid, and Kings give up a guy they aren’t using for another wing and a back up big they could try.
Suggestion 2
Kings: Mattise Thybulle
Sixers: Justin Holiday
Hawks: Alex Len, J. Springer and a 2nd (kings)
Kings again get their man, Sixers add a defensive minded wing in Holiday to replace Thybulle but offers more on offence and has more experience. Hawks give up Holiday who they don’t really play much with their new younger wings so instead they add a back up centre in Len who they have previously said they like. Also a young guard and a second round pick. Not bad for a guy they don’t really use much.
