Suns point guard Chris Paul has missed 21 of 48 games this season due to injuries and has seen his production dip even when he’s healthy — his 13.4 points per game would be a career low, while his 42.7% field goal percentage is the second-worst mark of his career.
Paul’s limitations have prompted the Suns to begin considering their post-CP3 future at point guard, according to Marc Stein, who reports at Substack that Phoenix has identified the Raptors‘ Fred VanVleet, the Hornets‘ Terry Rozier, and the Knicks‘ Immanuel Quickley as potential trade targets.
As Stein outlines, the Knicks are considered unlikely to move Quickley and it remains to be seen what Toronto’s intentions are for VanVleet, but Rozier is widely believed to be very much available for a struggling Hornets club that will likely be one of the deadline’s top sellers.
Here are a few more trade-related rumors from around the NBA:
- Teams with a need for frontcourt help are keeping an eye on Kings center Richaun Holmes as a possible buyout candidate if Sacramento can’t move him before the trade deadline, says Stein. That seems like a long shot, given that Holmes is still owed $12MM in 2023/24 and $12.9MM on a ’24/25 player option after this season.
- Following up on Michael Scotto’s reporting on Naz Reid, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer cites league sources who say that the Nets are among the teams who have inquired on the Timberwolves big man. Scotto identified the Clippers and Nuggets as teams with interest in Reid.
- League sources are skeptical that the Raptors will move Pascal Siakam or OG Anunoby unless the return is massive, but view Gary Trent Jr. and Fred VanVleet as more viable trade candidates due to their contract situations, writes O’Connor. Both Trent and VanVleet have 2023/24 player options which they’re expected to decline.
- Magic center Mohamed Bamba is considered “readily available” via trade, sources tell O’Connor. Bamba re-signed with Orlando in the offseason but has played a modest reserve role, averaging 17.4 minutes per game in 37 appearances. His $10.3MM salary for 2023/24 is non-guaranteed.
Reid would add to the Nets depth for sure. Daron Sharpe is not ready for a consistent role yet. Not sure what the Wolves want for him, but the Nets appear to have plenty to offer. Cam Thomas is definitely on Minnesota’s radar I’d bet
Cam Thomas & Jaylen Nowell play same role. Nowell been really good for Minnesota past couple seasons
I’m aware… Nowell played good last year, not this year. Only other player is Patty Mills, and that’s not getting Reid without Net picks. I doubt the Nets are that interested in Reid.
Lol apparently you’re not aware bc Nowell is playin well this yr as well… link to m.youtube.com
The last 10 games? The guy has had a tough season until late, not sure what Wolves games you view, but Nowell being useful this season is a recent development. Everything about Nowell is down, and was down, until KAT and all the injuries started a little over a month ago.
Why is it I feel like I’m responding to the sewer rat of the comment section?
Jaylen being extremely useful by scoring from everywhere & leading his team to an early season W over SAS in the 5th gm of the season… link to m.youtube.com
Your media on YouTube doesn’t make it a fact. No wonder your boxing knowledge is mainstream casual fan tripe.
lol my boxing knowledge?
Warriors get Naz Reid
Knicks get Moody
Wolves get Toppin
salary filler added
Wolves could use the scoring Toppin provides. Mcdaniels doesn’t show up on the offensive end sometimes. Stuffs Kuminga, and Wiseman deep into the Warriors rotation. Would they ever play meaningful minutes again?
If I’m Orlando I’d be making Jalen Suggs readily available as well. Cole Anthony seems to be settling into that 6th man role pretty well & Markelle is obv huge for them as the starter. Teams like Phoenix, Utah, DC, GSW, Min & more should definitely have interest in a young talented guy like Suggs, even though he hasn’t shown the ability to run a team just yet
Dump Suggs, and keep Harris & Fultz? I’m not following that philosophy. Suggs is still coming around, and is sometimes the best guard on the floor in Orlando depending on the match-up. He’s inconsistent, but not Dennis Smith Jr. just yet
I can’t remember the best time Suggs was the best guard on the court, that had to have been back in Spokane. Keeping Markelle is a no-brainer. Look at how Orl was the worst team in the league without him & has now beaten Boston 3x with him. If you like basketball I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to watch the games & not just go off stats. You miss the essence of the game
You are the most casual commenter on here fanboy! The Magic winning has a lot to do with a lot of things. But to simplify it in your mind to make yourself feel smart is hilarious to view.
I don’t think I’ve seen such an unresearched simp declare they are on such high ground before!
Thanks for the laugh!
Oof you’re really in your feelings aren’t you? But yea Orlando is 13-13 w/ Markelle & 5-16 without him. The team is pretty clearly much better with him starting & when you WATCH THE GAMES it’s pretty obv to see the difference he makes
I watch all the games, and you’re wrong. Fultz is just one piece of what Orlando has built. I suggest you watch the games.
What am I wrong about, specifically?
The Magic are 12-14 with Mo Wagner this year and 15-25 with Paulo Banchero.
So…
Are you gonna finish that thought? Lol was that it?..
You can’t figure out the correlation between your 13-13 with Fultz comment and my 12-14 with Mo Wagner comment,
Ok.
Is there correlation there? With Mo Wagner & Markelle Fultz lol please explain…
No, there isn’t any at all. You’ve almost figured it out.
You used the Magics record, and nothing else, to suggest they were better with Fultz.
I was trying to show you how ridiculous that was, in a nice way. But instead I just wasted my time talking to a troll.
It takes him a while to get his head around things sometimes. He’s a good sort though.
How many pieces of evidence would you find acceptable to prove the obvious fact that Orlando is better with Markelle starting at pg than Suggs or that he makes them a better team? I definitely thought that record would be enough lol. Tbh I initially thought that Orlando being better with Markelle was sorta obvious even with no #s to back it bc it. I’m a big Bol fan & watch a lot of Orlando’s games & I mean it’s pretty obvious that they’re a much much better team now that he’s back. Maybe you guys remember that the Magic made playoffs with Markelle as their starting pg in his 1st season there but went 15-59 without him the next season when he was injured. It shouldn’t be a big surprise that they’re better with him now as well… if you say what you mean & make a clear point from the jump without trying to be all cute you’ll waste less time but if you count this as a learning experience then it’s not wasted time at all
Agreed on Fultz
“if you say what you mean & make a clear point from the jump without trying to be all cute you’ll waste less time” was exactly what I was trying to teach you.
Hopefully next time you make a better point than just a teams won-loss record with a particular player. Because someone can always come in behind you and make you look foolish.
Oof.. hold this L lol pass it around ur various usernames
Yeah, what a win that was for you Shai.
I mean, it wasn’t like you were getting trolled or anything.
Good job buddy.
NYK could offer Reddish (and, if needed, the 2nd we got with him) for Bamba. Not real high on him, but he does look the part.
The more playing time Holmes gets, the more his low stock continues to rise. Highly unlikely the kings buy him out.
Suns should opening up there PG search to the likes of Lonzo Ball, Jalen Suggs, Bones Hyland and Daivon Mitchell aswell. I’d be looking to go young and look for complimentary players.
Haven’t seen enough of IQ to know if he’s worth going after but Terry and Fred are both slightly older and I would look to go even younger.
Lonzo would be great as a tall playmaking guard with solid defence and has improved to be efficient from outside. Jalen I think has heaps of untapped potential in a similar mould of defending and playmaking. Bones would be a more offensive minded replacement, fantastic shooter and great energy. Then lastly Mitchell terrific defence and I think will improve to be decent offensively and playmaking wise. Like a slightly better version of Pat Bev
Some time very well may be getting a steal in either Reid or Holmes.
I think Reid has more untapped potential, but I think Holmes would probably offer a team more for a playoff run now.
Reid has been someone I’ve kept my eye on as a player that could raise his stock with a change of scenery. Hopefully his time has come, because I think he’s been held back thus far in his career.
Unloading John Wall in a trade with Orlando, to land us Mo Bamba is my ideal trade. We have a 9mil trade exception, and throwing in Amir Coffey, BBJ, and either a 1st or 2 2nd’s, whichever they’d prefer, for them to toss in RJ Hampton + T-Ross should make the dollars work and I think both sides end up happy. Walls next year isn’t guaranteed so they can open their books a little bit while also getting 2 solid young talents.
Clips get the athletic backup big they’ve desperately needed, a PG/SG who can shoot in Hampton, and T-Ross as a green light off the bench for when Powell needs a night off, or Kennard is out for extended time(cough), and T-Ross isn’t signed past this year so if he shoots 30% or worse from deep, or just can’t give T Lue reasons to play him, you sit his ass down and give Mann, PG, and RoCo more minutes at the 3…
There is that chance though come playoff time,or even the last few weeks of the season, someone gets hurt or we’re down by a ton.. and T-Ross comes in to drop 28 pts with 6’s in a second half to rally us to a win. Igniting a spark in the team and chemistry wise he just flows into the rotation, averaging 12ppg in 18 mins while shooting 44% from 3.
That’s why I say this trade could be a real deal for the Clips. Cause he’s more than capable. Will he hustle on D, not kick the ball to open guys and take tough contested long 2’s, average more TO’s than assists? This is only pretend you’re a GM in the comments so what do I know lol.
