Any concern that the 2023 NBA trade deadline might be a quiet one went out the window when Kyrie Irving requested a trade last Friday. In the week that followed, NBA teams completed a total of 15 trades, including 12 that were finalized on deadline day.
The two most significant deals of those 15 included Irving, who was sent from Brooklyn to Dallas on Monday, and his teammate Kevin Durant, who landed in Phoenix on Thursday.
The blockbuster that sent Durant from the Nets to the Suns featured four teams and was a prime example of the creativity on display from NBA teams at this year’s trade deadline — six of Thursday’s 12 swaps involved at least three clubs, and four of those six trades were four-team deals.
In total, a staggering 49 NBA players were on the move on deadline day, plus four draft-and-stash players. Additionally, 44 draft picks (seven first-rounders and 37 second-rounders) were included in Thursday’s trades, along with three pick swaps (two first-rounders and one second-rounder).
Here’s a recap all of 2023’s deadline deals:

Wiseman is going to be a top Center. Warriors blew it. Seems they just can’t wait on Wiseman. But to give him away is not smart. Warriors aren’t winning this yr. So why move him now. They probably get more at draft or next yr. Great move for Detroit.
Why aren’t the Warriors winning this year? When everyone is healthy they still have the best starting 5 in the West. They bolstered their bench with Payton, they have scoring with Poole and Kuminga has rounded into form. In the playoffs you only need 8 rotation players. I’m not saying they will win it all but I am saying they have as good a chance as anyone.
Didn’t the Pistons just do this (trade for and invest) with a big man from Sac? Do they have enough playing time for these big men to be top players with the league going small?
Talent with size beats small…
Warriors saved like 120 mill by trading wiseman. Even they have a spending limit
The savings ended up not being nearly that much — that number was reported when it looked like the Warriors were getting Kevin Knox ($3MM) back instead of Gary Payton II ($8.3MM).
My questions from the past 24hrs:
What time did Danny start drinking?
How does everyone have 5 second round picks to trade for every player?
And how was Thomas Bryant worth 3 2nds?
I don’t even understand why muscala was worth two 2nds. Everyone’s giving away seconds like they’re nothing.
TB was very productive when AD was out. The numbers showed and his worth for those kind of picks
Before yesterdays 2 seconds was the equivalent of a 1st that was unlikely to convey. Gobert really jacked up the trade expectation this yr.
Lakers did well but is it too late ? Maybe
I like what Den did solidifying
Phx should beast , just get top 6 and sone flow rest of the way
Seems a lotta West teams got better East stayed relatively the same
Nets didn’t get enough for KD. Should have held out for Ayton. Fact is as a franchise. They have to accept the blame. On tearing this team up. You listen to the players. Then you are going to get played.
On another note ……. when we learn about balling here.
Clearly finished ….. please update on Basketball knowledge.
Dinwiddie 25 pts, 5 reb, 6 ast, 4 stl …..
They told KD they would accommodate him. Respectful. They also got the pick swap in in the later year when Durant’s going to be 40… They did fine. Those 3 and d guys are all going to be worth firsts come draft day.
I listened to radio
They are saying Lakers can’t win championships this year but the next two seasons they can
Kings kicking the deadline off w a blockbuster
Light the beam
Just think how fun the draft and deadline is going to be this upcoming season lol. All these teams that have the excessive amounts of seconds are going to start packaging like 7 seconds or something to move up into the bottom of the first and seconds are just going to be passed around even more
The West got stronger whilst the East got weaker…
The bottom of the East will be a fight, but the bloodbath in the West will be intense… Utah dropped down but so many got better…
Suns could win it if they stay healthy… Which is their biggest question mark…
The Lakers have the right pieces around Lebron for the first time since they won it…
And the Timberwolves got rid of the player whose play style completely held them back and replaced him with the dictionary definition of what they needed at the point…
The Clippers are another scary if healthy team… Made a lot of smart moves and if they click right make much more sense now than before…
And the Warriors look to run it back and move on from Wiseman… If Detroit get Victor or Scoot they will be deadly in a few years… But the Warriors got the guy they shouldn’t of let go… And now look like the team with the best chemistry despite the start to the season..
So many people say the “Warriors shouldn’t have let Gary Payton go.”
The Warriors hands were tied as a taxpayer for this type of player, no bird rights Etc at around $6 million. Portland can offer $9 million.
How in the world are the Warriors not supposed to let him go?
How is it that they shouldn’t have let him go?
Someone needs to explain this to me because everyone is saying it.
They had his Early Bird rights and could’ve offered up to $10MM+.
Oh, “EARLY” Bird rights. Back to the definitions page for me.
Well there you have it, finally an answer. I know to come here because I hadn’t received any word anywhere else. Thank you Luke !!
Lmao. There’s a provision for everything.
A terrific summary – as usual!!! If my calculations are correct – no guarantees – there were a ton of trade exceptions created in the morass of trades. For example, the KD trade appears to create an 18.9 million trade exception for Brooklyn. If anyone in charge is reading this, it would be great if the trade exceptions were published. Thanks!!!
I’ve updated our TPE page here: link to hoopsrumors.com
I’m not sure about a small handful of them, since some teams (Hawks and Blazers, in particular) could’ve used their TPEs in a variety of different ways, so I still have to confirm some. But all of Thursday’s trades have been incorporated.
Wonder what the Nets do from here.
Simmons
O’Neale
DFS
Bridges
Dinwiddie
Would they target say SGA, Brown, Trae and try to build a contender via known quantities vs the draft this off-season. Idk that the latter two are getable.
But the Suns won’t be a dumpster fire with this new ownership group. Don’t think he’ll allow it so those picks may not hold much value. Might be best to reroute the picks to improve the roster w sub-26 yr old talent.
Dallas, Phoenix, raptors, Nets, Knicks and the pistons did good at the deadline. Lakers, Denver, Utah, pacers and nuggets did not. All other moved are moderate
