Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks has been suspended for one game without pay after an altercation with Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, who received a $20K fine, the NBA announced (via Twitter).
Brooks was suspended for initiating the incident by “striking Mitchell in the groin area in an unsportsmanlike manner,” per the league. Mitchell was fined for escalating after “throwing the game ball at and pushing Brooks,” with a minor scrum occurring afterward.
Both players were ejected; Brooks received a Flagrant 2 Foul, while Mitchell received a technical. The incident occurred about halfway through the third quarter of Cleveland’s victory over Memphis on Thursday.
According to the NBA, Brooks will serve his suspension on Sunday against Toronto. The one-game ban will cost him $78,621, tweets ESPN’s Bobby Marks. That’s 1/145th of his salary. Brooks is making $11.4MM in the final year of his contract.
Mitchell already stated he was going to appeal his ejection. He was very unhappy with Brooks after the game, calling it a “cheap shot” and said it was something that had “been brewing for years.”
Seems a bit light. Can’t mess with the stones.
Brooks should’ve been suspended more games for that loose balls foul.
I would LOVE to see these 2 guys going at it in a Canada/USA medal round game this summer.. link to m.youtube.com
Very light.
I want to see someone strike a groin with sportsmanship
In one year the Cavs have gone from a young up-and-coming power to one that has had a number of incidents, and now find themselves in 5th place in the East behind the Brooklyn Nets. I seldom read about Garland, Mobley, or Allen anymore.
Seems like the team has peaked.
Now they have to look at trading one of Garland, Mobley, or Allen to get multiple young guys back because their 8 man rotation is too weak for them to be a competitor.
That was an awful trade.
Peaked? They have a good young team. just needs a better bench with a few vets.
Lol
They won 44 games last season, they’re on pace to 48-49 this season. They traded and extra player in Sexton that they didn’t need, a redundant player that was playing out of position in Markkanen and a bunch of essentially low 1st picks for a star.
What!? How does a team that only began winning again last year with younger players already peaked?
Also, Cleveland won 44 games last year. Right now they’re on pace to win 49 this year. You call that a peak? I call that continued progress.
Garland’s numbers basically match last year’s, while his 3PT% has gone up. Allen’s numbers are down a bit, but he’s getting the same amount of shots a game. Also, he ain’t losing rebounds to Spida. Mobley’s numbers are better than last year’s in similar MPG.
No need to sell on any of those three guys, it’s dealing a group of the others to find a 3 and D wing.
lmfao. Troll. Their starting 5 is elite and have an age of 23, 26, 22, 21, 24. Three of those have already been selected to AS games, one is currently STARTING and Evan Mobley, the youngest, should be named to an All-NBA defensive team and is rounding out offensively. Respectfully, STFU.
“….and now find themselves in 5th place in the East behind the Brooklyn Nets.”
Injuries, inexperience and a lack of bench support (4th worst in the NBA). Despite all that, they have the 2nd best point differential in the LEAGUE. I’m honestly amazed by how obtuse you are which is why you must be a troll. Either way do something better than be unnecessarily negative.
OhThatYoGirl;
Not a troll at all.
Have watched NBA basketball for a long, long time. It has changed for the worse (far less team play).
I didn’t say the Cavs are terrible. I said they’ve peaked – and I meant that as a championship contender. Last year they looked like a coming team. There were at the edges of championship contention, a starter due to come back from injury, lots of young players and high draft choices coming. Instead of adding to it, they bundled everything together for one player and now have nothing in reserve.
A guy above wrote they “just needs a better bench with a few vets.” That’s my point. They’re over the cap, and out of draft choices. How do they do that?
Yeah you are a troll. You been saying stupid crap for years. You like the attention.
And? They still are on pace to be better than last year. That is forward progress regardless of what place they are in.
Definitely should have gotten more gms suspended. I hope they play again soon. I want to see. Who’s going to have the big ones to guard DM ……. should be a fun gm.
Silver probably had his secretary handle this. Flagrant 2 = 1 game suspension. After that, Brooks can go back to his antics.
I get playing with chips on their shoulders, but some of these Memphis guys just be playing dumb – antagonizing, fouling with reckless abandon.
Brooks seems to want to pick a fight with anyone on the opposing team, Clarke and JJJ (even Bane) fouls anyone within sight.
Don’t you mean MEMPHIS?
You just gotta let it go bro.
Go get some sun, get out from your parents basement. There’s a big world out there.
Bro, my mom is cool. You know me being unemployed and on meth and all, I need a free place to stay.
Dude, it’s funny. MEMPHIS.
Why did you stop? I hope it wasn’t cuz I made fun of you.
Don’t let me extinguish your light bro.
Be you.
Stop what?
So sorry, but I can’t stay/comment in these threads all the time, like you.
I have the unenviable task of working for a living.
You on the other hand, THE MAN.
Keep livin’ the life bro.
What are you, a man from the past?
What kind of job do you have that keeps you from looking at the Internet? You work in retail? Construction? Are you like 60 years old maybe?
I remember back in the day when I had jobs with people watching me all the time.
Do you have any friends with good jobs, that get to mess around on the Internet? I could explain what it’s like if you don’t
Yeah, I mean who uses the Internet to work these days?
