FEBRUARY 10: Brown has been diagnosed with a maxillary facial fracture, the Celtics announced in a press release. According to the team, he’ll be reevaluated next week.
FEBRUARY 8: Celtics star Jaylen Brown is expected to miss several games after suffering a facial fracture in tonight’s contest against Philadelphia, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. Brown will be examined by specialists on Thursday, but initial expectations are that he may not return until after the All-Star break.
Brown suffered the injury on a collision with teammate Jayson Tatum during the first half (video link from NBC Sports Boston). Both players were chasing an offensive rebound when Tatum’s elbow struck Brown on the left side of his head. He remained on the floor for a while before getting up, and he was immediately taken to the locker room.
Before the second half began, the Celtics announced that Brown had a facial contusion and was done for the night.
Brown, who was named as an Eastern Conference reserve for the All-Star Game last week, is in the midst of a career-best season, averaging 27.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists through 47 games. The Celtics defeated the Sixers to solidify their hold on the top spot in the East, but it could be tough to stay there if Brown is lost for an extended stretch.
Sixers may have lost by a millions 3’s but won here.
There’s so much wrong with that statement. Even grammar aside.
I hope Jaylen Brown be okay. He’s the best Shooting Guard in the NBA with his two way game.
Brown plays well defending the perimeter. That is about all he does though. He holds opposing players to about 35% out on the perimeter, but allows over 50% inside the arc. Plays 36 minutes, and barely averages a steal, and half a block. That is just shy of a 3&D wing to me, but he can definitely score the basketball.
Sorry champ but Brown plays SF. D White plays SG. Brown should be playing SG like you said
Everything depends on how Brown heals & how bad the injury is in the 1st place. If Brown is back at 100% in 2 weeks it will mean little. That said if he is in & out of the line up the rest of the season & never gets back all the way this could be the reason another team wins the East or the Finals. Way too early to know but we’ll all keep watch.
Brown needs to stay out for awhile until he feels good! Even if it means a month!
The Celtics are 6-1 without Brown this year, 7-1 if you count last night. He has great talent, but the team offense runs better when he is not on the floor. Their bench plays well when they get the chance. Unfortunately, they are in one of the toughest schedule stretches of the year. I liked Tatum’s game last night. He became a facilitator with 9 assists because Sixers were double and triple teaming him with Brown out.
Tatum’s an impressively unselfish player for someone with that much scoring ability. Seeing his pass/facilitate decisions evolve was a fun part of last season.
Celtics played as a team last night and thus their secondary players got open threes & made them. Nice team play! Go Celtics!
So we get to see if they’ll let Pritchard step up to the mic.
