The Mavericks have reached an agreement to trade for disgruntled Nets star Kyrie Irving but they’re not through wheeling and dealing, Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News reports.
According to a source familiar with the front office’s thinking, the Mavericks are exploring more trade possibilities to upgrade the roster around superstar Luka Doncic.
Dallas wants to shed Tim Hardaway Jr.‘s contract, feeling that his inconsistent contributions are not worth the long-term investment, Caplan writes. Hardaway is in the second year of a four-year, $75MM deal, though the contract is front-loaded.
The Mavericks would also like to move the contracts of Davis Bertans’and JaVale McGee, both of whom are signed through the 2024/25 season. They have some expiring contracts (Christian Wood, Dwight Powell), though Wood is also the team’s second-leading scorer.
They also have some young talent in third-year swingman Josh Green and rookie Jaden Hardy.
Mark from Cuba shows again he’s useless at team building… You can build around a black hole of a max contract…
He got lucky one year…
I’m feeling like he’s only going to have one championship despite having two generational players he was lucky enough to trade for on draft night. That’s where he’s “smarts” end.
To be fair… he didn’t trade for Dirk- he bought the team after he was already on it.
True, which makes him worse
Much much worse. They actually fired the guy who drafted Dirk and replaced him with Nico Harrison.
Oh, Donnie Nelson, if only you were allowed to draft Giannis like you had wanted.
One championship covered up and continues to cover for a lot of awful awful decisions by Cubes.
Kobe, duncan, lebron, curry have won 20 championships out of the last 24 years. Its tough for me to blame the mavericks for getting one championship in that span when the four listed above are all arguably top ten players of all time.
Who’s the best player Dirk played w., J. Kidd when he was 73 years old?
Steve Nash?
Steve Nash.
They screwed the pooch on that one too, didn’t they.
Need a defensive 5. And move wood to a stretch 4 and have him take DFS role.
Hardy will be better than THJ next season
Good luck have fun. Real gms gonna stock draft picks for when Luka wants out
Luka contract runs through year 2027 or opt out In 2026. So if he left in 2026 or 2027 dallas has their own 2027 and their 2028 1st rounder
Dallas gifts a top 5 pick because Luka Long Gone by 29
Luka should ask out this summer…
Before the new CBA has anything to stop him put in place…
#FreeLuka
DAL: Poeltl + McDermott
SAS: Bertran (barf!) + 27FRP + 28 swap rt
To take on that contract and give up Poetl it would have to be 28 frp. Top 5 protection in 27 and top 10 protections in 28 seems right.
So what team, and what trade, do you have the Mavs getting an extra 2028 or 2029 FRP from in order to comply with the Stepien Rule?
If they can move THJ and McGee for expiring deals, then it improves the KI deal as well. Bertans too, but it might cost too much to remove that one from the books.
gee…I wonder what sillivan thinks..
I am so grateful someone showed me how to ignore. A community can feel awful, yet sometimes its only 1% that can make that happen
The Mavs should trade for Durant
LOL. Who gave McGee and THJ those contracts? Hmmmm.
Yea so… Bertans + THJ + 25 and 27 1sts for… Mr. Rudy Gobert lol
Fixes the defensive limitations right?
I wonder who else the mavs trade for
How come Kyrie was disgruntled?
Never heard that one, he simply wanted out ’cause BRK did not value him & treated him real bad, with silly clauses that no professional should ever accept & lowballed him financially… so he basically was pushed out of a happy situation, disgruntled never. Mr Gauruder, please get it right!
disgruntled – angry or dissatisfied
So you’re saying that Kyrie *WASN’T* dissatisfied?? Then why’d he demand a trade?
Hardaway and Bertans have to go. Cavs badly need a wing. They could probably get Kevin Love. Otherwise I’m not sure those two are really high on anyone’s list.
