The Nets are looking for a third team to fold into the Kyrie Irving trade, which is why it hasn’t been made official yet, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
Brooklyn is set to receive guard Spencer Dinwiddie, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, an unprotected 2029 first-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick in the swap. Those draft picks will all be the Mavericks’ own.
Marc Stein was first to report (via Twitter) that the Nets were considering trading Dinwiddie to a third team. It’s possible that Finney-Smith could be on the move as well, as he acknowledged in an interview with Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News.
According to Stein (Twitter links), the Nets are exploring a deal that would send Dinwiddie and unspecified draft picks to Toronto for Raptors guard Fred VanVleet. The Nets also have interest in forward Pascal Siakam, but the Raptors are reluctant to move the All-NBA forward.
ESPN’s Zach Lowe and Brian Windhorst stated on The Hoop Collective podcast that the Nets were also intrigued by Raptors forward OG Anunoby, though they were uncertain if they would be able to land him (hat tip to RealGM).
“I still don’t know what the Raptors are going to do,” said Windhorst.
“The Nets are definitely calling the Raptors over the last 24 hours,” replied Zach Lowe.
“If the Nets could flip some of this stuff that they got and pry OG Anunoby out of there, you may have something there with the Nets, but I don’t know if they’re going to be able to,” added Windhorst.
Wojanrowski reports (via Twitter) that several teams are speaking to the Raptors today, including the Nets.
The Irving deal will be finalized on Monday regardless of if a third team is included, notes ESPN’s Tim MacMahon (Twitter link). Irving plans to join the team in Los Angeles for practice on Tuesday and intends to suit up on Wednesday versus the Clippers, so the Mavs need the deal completed by Monday.
The worm turns.
Are we sure this isn’t just Woj trying to get in on the scoop lol.
Who here is team Shams or team Woj? Reply below!
I’d say it’s not wise to bet against Woj when it comes to NBA rumors.
Team Luke !
Team Peter Vescey and his Hoop Du Jour.
Peter vescey is the worst. That ship has sailed and his brother also. He’s never right about anything.
Team Woj
Was I right or was I right
I proposed a trade proposal last night this board
Nets get Siakam and VanVleet
Raptors get 4 future first round picks and Nets players
I would laugh at whatever you might get to pass through the trade machine salary matching. Nevermind where you think these four first rounders are coming from. They have already swapped their 23 and 25 and 27 picks, surrendered their 24 and 26 picks, with only a protected Philly 27 pick and whatever the 29 Dallas pick is. I suppose they could trade the Philly 27 pick with their own 28 and either the Dallas or their own 29 pick. That’s still only three picks, far out to the future with no idea what their value may be. Nobody is trading Siakam and Van Vleet for that.
oh silly van you make all laugh
Spitballing:
Chance the Wolves get involved here?
Something like DLo, maybe Reid to BKN with Dinwiddie, DFS to MIN? See if any other minor players cooked in or where draft capital ends up.
N
ot sure if Nets are interested in DLo but could be viewed as a rental with another move to come later at PG, but Reid is a play I could see them wanting. Dinwiddie stop-gaps the PG spot for Wolves well enough while getting some return and not letting DLo walk. DFS is good and actually creates a log jam at forward so they could look at moving say a Taurean Prince if teams have been calling.
I’d be Ok with the Wolves getting involved and getting Dinwiddie, Harris (I really like his shooting), and maybe a draft pick for Russel and Reid.
I would love to Dorian Finney-Smith come to the Hawks but I’m still extremely hesitant to trade Jalen Johnson… if we could get something like TJ Warren & Dorian for John Collins I might have interest tho
They don’t want to get greedy though and lose what they have
That’s already done it’s a handshake deal and Dallas gives up what they give up. Basically done. Nets just looking to shuffle around a little bit while they’re at it.
Why do they need a third team involved in the trade with the Mavs? They’re your players now and you can trade them to whomever you want .
Build a friendship with other teams and get a 2nd round pick for more paper work.
Every piece counts
The reason might be because of the various trade rules and resulting exceptions.
Otherwise, this doesn’t make sense.
No recently traded players can’t be dealt for a period of time
That’s why the trade isn’t final, but I wish it would be and Din would come back to Brooklyn.
Likely because Durant said he doesn’t want to play with Dinwiddie again. He wants a bff instead, and his state of mind is all that matters to the Nets right now. Who knows who that might be though. Maybe it’s Van Vleet.
Dinwiddie is on a below market value contract and is hitting FA in 24 so maybe KD IS involved or Nets are testing the rental PG market (FVV, dLo even Conley, Wall)
Now that the trade is official, Dinwiddie and Finney-Smith can still be flipped this week, but they can’t be aggregated with any other players for salary-matching purposes (ie. if the Nets were targeting someone making $35MM, those two guys couldn’t be packaged to match his salary).
OG is not better than Ben. Don’t need him. You need Ben to get mins. And wake up, start playing.
LOL. Ben’s almost out of the league.
In 3 years
OG is far better than Simmons ever was. Anunoby plays stellar defense on all 5 positions just as Simmons does but he’s not afraid to take and make shots.
The only thing Simmons has on Anunoby is playmaking in the open court but Simmons playmaking is mitigated in the half-court when anyone defending him can just sag off and do soft doubles on other actual offensive threats.
Ben has been a defensive player of the yr, or most thought he should have won.

So what has OG won. Top Raptor defender.
I thought Irving was already gonna make his debut.
he proposed to propose a proposition
Random but what if I the Celtics tried to trade M Brodgon and some 1st to the Magic for W Carter. PG. Smart. SG. Brown. SF. Tatum. PF. 6’8;R Williams. C. W Carter. White, Williams and horford off the bench. I think that would be great for them
Nets better be careful, the longer they wait the more chance Kyrie has to get suspended or trash the Mavs and get them to bail
Ngl I’d rather Dinwiddie.
He’s not going to hit FA like FVV.
He’s bigger and taller and defends better overall. Is happy to be a starter or come off the bench.
DFS ain’t that bad either. Throw him in at the 4, solid defender and decent shooter.
However if you do want to make a trade I’d look at….
1. DFS and Seth Curry for John Collins
2. Dinwiddie and Joe Harris for Dlo and Naz Reid
Option 1 JC would be a move to get younger and more athletic. Would pair well with Ben Simmons and braces well for a KD trade request.
Option 2 is about freeing up some cap space while also getting Naz Reid to be the perfect back up 5 in tandem with Claxton.
Van Vleet for Claxton and Fillers
Now trade Bertans and green for a defensive center next to wood
So deal must get done by today ??
Nets better off with Dinwiddie imo.
And yes Cam Thomas had 47 pts tonight against Clippers. So bye Kyrie.
I guess all this is to keep KD. Or just made up by media. KD being so quiet. To me is not a good sign.
“Imagine the tweets I’ve been getting since I decided to come to the Nets, from Knick fans,” Durant said with a smile. “Always love at the games, but it’s a good rivalry to be a part of. Everybody who steps in our building are going to realize how big these games are.”

So 4 yrs later the Nets are about to explode. While the young Knicks are about to blow up …….
Real fans never wanted you or Kyrie lol. Seems Nets never had you two play a whole season yet. In 4 yrs KD and Kyrie played 74 gms together.
Seventy Four Games ………. Yeah Knicks sure missed out on this !!!!!!!
The trio of Irving, Harden and Kevin Durant played only 16 games together before Harden was sent to the Philadelphia 76ers last February. Due to injuries and, well, several off-the-court issues, Durant and Irving only played 74 games together since both players arrived in Brooklyn in June 2019.1

We blowing up in MSG ….
Nets exploding in Barclays Center ……
Who won the Nets Durant years? Seems like every other contender. Durant should absolutely be pissed at Kyrie, because the one solitary person that caused all of this is him.
