FEBRUARY 14: Jackson has signed with the Nuggets, the team tweets.
FEBRUARY 11: Former Clippers guard Reggie Jackson is finalizing a buyout agreement with the Hornets and intends to sign with the Nuggets after clearing waivers, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Denver had been hoping to land the 32-year-old guard, who was traded to Charlotte on Thursday, but wasn’t required to report to the team. The Nuggets have an opening in their backcourt after sending Bones Hyland to the Clippers in a four-team deal. The Suns also were reported to be heavily interested in Jackson as a buyout candidate.
Denver has an open roster spot, so Jackson can be added without making another move.
Jackson has strong ties to Colorado, notes Harrison Wind of DNVR (Twitter link). He was named Mr. Colorado Basketball as a high school player in 2008 and always has a large cheering section of family and friends whenever he plays in Denver.
Jackson spent the past four years with the Clippers and was the team’s starter at point guard last season. He was taken out of that role this year and saw his playing time cut to 25.7 minutes per night in 52 games.
Assuming Jackson winds up in Denver, other teams in need of a point guard will have to look elsewhere. Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverley and John Wall are among the players traded this week who are considered strong candidates to become free agents soon.
Those players – and any other buyout candidates – must be waived by March 1 to be eligible for the playoffs with their new teams.
Smart move by Jackson. Beverley said he is going to wolves. Wall is terrible. Westbrook can wait until the playoff picture is clearer.
I seen Bev say he won’t go there and that the bucks are a real option for him.
If I’m Pat I’d rather the Bucks and winning a ring. Imagine him in the playoffs matching up with either CP3 or Curry coming out of the east. Two guys he loves to face.
I saw report saying the Wolves weren’t interested in Beverley also. Bucks are a good home for him, and they can use the depth.
As a Clipps fan, missing Jackson big time. Hoping though Westbrook or Beverly ends up with the Clipps.
I’m happy for Reggie Jackson because he’s going to the number 1 team out West.
That was a bad trade. To get a backup center who doesn’t play defense like the starting center. Let’s trade the guy who carried us last year
Either the league has an insane amount of talent or there are way to many wasted roster spots in the league right now
What do you mean by that?
Nice pick up for Nuggets. Haven’t seen Reggie play this year, but he’s been a solid pro for a long time. The Nuggets bench is much improved. They now have the option of Brown or Jackson at backup pg (also hopefully one of them chooses to stay next year). Bryant looks like he could eat up all the back up minutes for both Jokic and Gordon. Lineups like Jokic, Bryant, Braun, KCP, Brown…or Bryant, Zeke, Cancar, Braun, Murray…or Bryant, Gordon, Cancar, KCP, Reggie…all look like super solid bench units.
A PG that’s really a scorer more than a facilitator, like him, will do well playing with Jokic. Of course, almost every type of G does well playing with Jokic. Other than the type that want to ignore Jokic and launch quick 30 foot shots.
Nuggets definitely winning the World Series now.
Nuggets just got even stronger
I don’t know if I like the move for the Nuggets…
There’s a reason that the Clippers moved him after trying to see if Wall could take his minutes… He might play better with Jokic, but he hasn’t been a real impact player this season…
The alternative was playing Ish Smith at backup PG or playing Bruce Brown there (out of position). Jackson is definitely an upgrade. He can give you 18 minutes a game to spell Murray and will start occasionally when Murray sits. Allowing Brown to play his natural position at the 2 or 3 is a weapon
Good move for Denver…..
need the depth.
The agent for Reggie Jackson never even returned the calls from the New York Yankees and the Oakland A’s….
