The Suns put together a trade offer for Kyrie Irving that included Chris Paul and Jae Crowder, along with draft capital, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report (Twitter link).
Brooklyn also received an offer from the Lakers that included the only first-round picks left at their disposal — the ones in 2027 and 2029. Confirming a report that surfaced on Friday, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that the Lakers offered the Nets a package of Russell Westbrook and the two first-round picks but the Nets also wanted all of their young players, including Austin Reaves and Max Christie.
Charania also provided more specifics on Phoenix’s offer. The Suns were willing to give up Paul, Crowder and one first-round pick. However, the Nets wanted three first-round picks in order to take that deal. The Suns never added those picks and ultimately lost interest in pursuing a trade.
The Nets ultimately decided to go with the Mavericks‘ offer of Spencer Dinwiddie, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, an unprotected 2029 first-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick with Markieff Morris also going to Dallas.
Despite Paul’s age, Phoenix’s willingness to give up its floor leader for the unpredictable Irving is an eye-opener. The Suns had a successful weekend, picking up victories in Boston and Detroit, and should get Devin Booker back soon from his groin injury.
However, Paul has battled heel and hip injuries that have led to questions about how his body will hold up throughout this season and the remainder of his contract. Paul is making $28.4MM this season and $30.8MM next season, though only $15.8MM is guaranteed. His $30MM salary in 2024/25 is not guaranteed.
Crowder has been sitting out all season, awaiting a trade.
Worried about inconsistency from Chris Paul so you try to trade him for someone even more inconsistent…
I think it’s called believing you can fix the other guy’s problems because you don’t know how big they are, or refuse to see it.
The other guy’s problems are pretty public though. At least the ones he’s thought of so far, there’s always another landmine to be tripped over with this guy
nah, it’s about getting rid off Paul’s contract. If/when Kyrie leaves as a free agent, they would have cap space to sign another max player
I think the Brooklyn Nets going to regret not taking the Los Angeles Lakers trade.
Kevin Durant has shown he can’t lead the Oklahoma City Thunder or Brooklyn Nets organizations to a championship. He’s only won when he jumped on a 73-9 team lol.
If I was the Brooklyn Nets I would’ve traded Kyrie Irving for that 2027 first and 2029 first and then got on the phone and traded Kevin Durant for some young players and three or four first round picks.
I would’ve sent Kyrie Irving to the Lakers and Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns.
Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith aren’t moving the needle. Two solid role players smh.
I’m not sure if anybody will trade for Ben Simmons the way he playing.
Jacque Vaughn is a young coach that I will let go through a rebuild with.
I agree they will regret the Lakers offer. Only exception is that Dinwiddie is lights out from 3 and has become a really good player. If it were known he was available earlier, there would be tons of interest. Still they will regret passing on the better trade.
My thoughts exactly. Their owner let their ego get in the way and now its gonna bite them in the long run. Those Laker picks especially are gonna be extra valuable as we know how bad the Laker FO is rn so they’re likely to be top 5 in both years. KD is also starting to get injury prone as he gets older and will lose value fast. Should get maximum value rn.
They still fleeced the Mavs becausr Kyrie will play 1 full season over a 5 year span…
Scarlett666;
What are the odds that Kyrie Irving will be playing with any one team for the next 5 years?….or even being in the league in 5 years?
Champ;
Those draft picks are 4 and 6 years away.
What are the percentage chances that Jacque Vaughn will be coaching there in 4-6 years? Or the FO personnel still being there. Or even the ownership?
There’s value in trying to win today
Dallas provided more of that which LAl couldn’t
I respect that from Brk
You’re not a contender anymore without Kyrie. Theres no value in that.
@champ – I don’t think the Nets want to hang it up this year, thus passing in the Lakers offer. Not even sure if the picks were protected. Westbrook and Simmons clanking rims and backboards is one way to get Durant to ask for a trade. But yeah, if those picks were unprotected, that would be the way to go – still doubt the Nets get passed the second round.
Nets blew up their good upcoming team to get Durant & Kyrie. Now they are back to square one. What a joke!
I think they’ll get over it when they realize they didn’t have to take on the rotting carcass of Russell Westbrook to get those picks
RW is gone after the season and you could have gotten rid of Harris’s awful contract and possibly found a taker for Simmons too. Could have gone after Middleton and signed some other nice pieces around them and be set up for the future too. But hey I guess Dinwiddie for 30 mil is worth so much more.
So DFS and Dinwiddie don’t move the needle but Russ does? Okay, Laker fan.
You arent winning no matter who you get so why not get better draft picks.
Jae Crowder asked “is the trade coming soon?”
Crowder has been sitting out all season, awaiting a trade to Brookly for former Nets point guard Kyrie Irving.
February 9th. Hang tight.
Why wouldn’t Phoenix want to pair Irving WITH Paul?
$$
Now I add Suns to this list
Whenever Knicks and Lakers proposed the trades with Danny Ainge, it comes up with empty hand.
Conley, Beasley and Vanderbilt thought their wives, sons and daughters have been traded to New York or Hollywood, but ….
The Suns are DUMB. Should’ve thrown in those picks. Easily would’ve been the championship favorite with Booker and Kyrie.
I would have added 2 seconds and see if they bite. 3 firsts? pass.
IMO
Irving likes to play with Luka more than LeBron.
LeBron and Irving friendship is overrated by the reporters.
If Kyrie couldn’t handle being on a team that spends to win with KD on it, he is going to hate playing on a team with a cheap owner…
If Kyrie gets the max from Mark from Cuba, there will be no depth and maybe 2 decent role players on the team…
Thank god they didnt trade for CP3, dudes almost finished and his contract makes him one of the most least desireable players in the league. Lakers offer was terrible as well. Nets are in win now mode, Austin Reaves doesn’t even make the Nets rotation at this point in the season
i wouldnt have taken that trade from phx either. at this point CP3 is name value more than play, crowder hasnt played all year and who knows what that pick would be.
the lakers could have put a little more effort into their offer though. there was no way the nets were taking back russ in any scenario and keeping KD and the lakers should have known that. i was fully expecting them to put together some sort of 3 team trade smh
Wild!!
Awesome NBA!
Exciting week to come!!
Michol;
Yes…but does any of it have to do with basketball?
The leagues a joke….
Of the 30 teams, 4 are under the salary cap – and 2 of those are lower than $1m. What’s the point of a salary cap?
Travel Leagues for kids are better run than the NBA.
The league is such a joke that you’re hunting out news about it on a niche website and commenting on it. League is as healthy as its ever been.
rct;
I’m not “hunting out news on it”. I had some time tonight and looked in because I’m familiar with Kyrie Irving and get a kick out of him (and others) jacking around everyone associated with the NBA. It appears he did it again. lol
The leagues a joke. Few teams play anything resembling fundamental team basketball. The good players and even the not so good players expect to be catered to…and are. Traveling and palming the ball are routine. The Commissioner is like the President of a school for wealthy kids where he’s forever backpaddling and his only solution is have “play-ins” and wanting to stop the league during the season to have “Tournaments”….whatever that is.
Sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic for 20-30 minutes and finally get up to see the accident that caused it – like most others around me I take a look.
So why exactly are you here. Seems you are in the wrong place……..
Seems basketball brings out more haters than any other sport. Why even vent here. I’d say 30% of posters here are negative.
You should just go away …..
You’d be wrong Al
Go check out Mlbtr , it’s a cesspool of hate and Sammy is a co founder over there
Yeah I get criticizing and even not liking a player. But if you have disdain for a sport or athletes. Why waste your time here.
I guess it’s cheaper than therapy lol.
You’re probably stuck in traffic because you are on your phone commenting on a basketball site when you think the league is a joke
@samuel: Sorry, but you are hunting down news on it. If you really thought the league was a joke, you wouldn’t be here talking about it.
And your personal opinions about fundamentals or the commissioner or whatever aside, the league is extremely popular and profitable right now. Maybe that’s a joke in your opinion, but oh well. The NBA is doing great.
This proves CP3 is not highly regarded in the locker room. Everyone knows he can never win nba title.
Well, the Point God isn’t alone in that. He’ll probably join the likes of AI, Gervin, Dominique, Ewing, Nash, Malone, Stockton, and Barkley, to name a few.
Worst offer I’ve read ……..
And very interesting they would be willing to move Chris now. Suns are falling apart lols.
Time for OKC to have a splash with all of its draft picks and try and get KD back. They have the room. Giddey, SGA, KD and Chet is not bad, they’ll also have the two Williams boys, Poku and Dort.
The NBA is totally out of control! No one really wants Kyrie yet he wants $50m million a year? WTF? Teams throw around $30, $40, $50 million a year contracts to players who’ve already done it & our on the last vestiges of they BB careers. Crazy!
Thing about the Lakers picks is ppl don’t factor in that it’s still LA, it’s still the Lakers, it basically is THE premiere fa destination. The team has been built thru free agency almost exclusively after Kobe started playing for them. I dont think the 27 and 29 1sts are gonna be as valuable as ppl think, the idea that the Lakers will be out of contention for 3+ years just doesnt jive. Magic is a great recruiter, players are always going to want to come to LA and players are always going to want to play for the Lakers.
Kyrie is talented but incredibly toxic. In my opinion, he will never be an integral part of any championship run on any team. In fact, he’s basically guaranteed to sink any team he’s on chances of winning. Kevin Durant Will probably be traded & the team that gets him, they will have a chance at a championship run.
