The NBA is still waiting to see what the Raptors will decide to do ahead of next week’s trade deadline, but it’s seeming more likely that they’ll be active.
“I would be shocked if they didn’t do anything,” one high-ranking league executive told Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca.
The Raptors are open to offers for everyone on the roster except for second-year forward Scottie Barnes, sources tell Lewenberg. Just because they’re listening doesn’t mean they’re going to totally overhaul the team in the next week though, with Lewenberg pointing out that more options could be available in the offseason.
Here are a few more trade-related rumors from around the NBA:
- The Raptors came close to landing Deandre Ayton from the Suns via sign-and-trade over the summer, a source tells Lewenberg, who notes that Phoenix is reportedly interested in OG Anunoby.
- ESPN’s Zach Lowe said on his Lowe Post podcast that trade chatter involving Timberwolves guard D’Angelo Russell has died down a little with his strong play of late. “He has been a good offensive player for them,” said Lowe (hat tip to RealGM). “That noise, to me, has kind of quieted. I know there are deals out there that they would do. I don’t think any teams have met those deal points yet.” Russell is making $31.4MM in the final year of his contract.
- Both the Heat and Celtics are interested in a reunion with Jazz big man Kelly Olynyk, sources tell Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com. Boston is still trying to figure out what Utah might seek in return for Olynyk, but a source from a team looking for frontcourt help expressed skepticism that the Celtics or Heat will be able to meet the Jazz’s asking price, per Bulpett.
- A front office source from a rival team doesn’t expect the Celtics to do anything drastic on the wings at the deadline, suggesting that even if they sign someone in a buyout, that player is likely to be a deep-bench reserve who is buried on the depth chart. “I’m not saying they wouldn’t upgrade their end of the bench wings, but there’s really no room in the rotation,” the source told Bulpett.
The rumors are that there are no rumors
Be a fantasy for MN to get some draft capital for Russell and out from under a few million dollars.
No. They are destined to wallow in mediocrity for the rest of the decade due to their foolishness and naivety in thinking Rudy Gobert was worth all they gave up. It shall haunt their dreams when they sleep until they wake up and realize that there is no escape.
There is no escape from the Rudy Gobert trade. KAT has been injured and still a disaster with Rudy in the middle. They still tend to win when he is sitting out.
Wolves got Ant.
Everybody else can wallow in that.
With Towns and Gobert’s age they don’t need draft capital, they need Towns back from injury.
It would also help is Edwards quit putting the blinders on and making bone headed turnovers. He’s getting a lot better but at times he still plays like Collin Sexton in his last healthy season in Cleveland.
All in all though they’re tied for 5th in the West and a game out of home court for the 1st round of the playoffs with their best player on the bench. So all things considered I’d say there doing better than a lot of people expected or some people(such Barry or Ironmonger) realize.
5th in the West?? Better than people expected??? Everybody in Minnesota (except Anthony Edwards) from management to KAT spent all summer talking about how they were a title contender. Minnesota struggled with KAT, because of Rudy.
Minnesota set the championship expectations after the trade. Nobody’s else felt that way. Most felt the trade would have them exactly where they are right now.
Getting KAT back isn’t an elevator for Minnesota when you consider Phoenix was missing Devin Booker, and the Lakers were without Anthony Davis.
No, management flat said it wouldn’t be immediate.
Tim Connelly- “We didn’t have expectations it was initially going to hit the ground running. We kind of expected a lot of growing pains there,” Connelly said. “So I think, individually, Rudy’s been fantastic. When we’re fully healthy, we’ve got to figure out how to most effectively employ all those guys. It’s a win-loss league. If we had three or four more wins right now, it would be an emphatic positive.”
What you stated:
Suns were missing Booker
Lakers were missing Davis (like 4 months ago?)
Why bring up these games? Bring up recent games. The Wolves have been meshing well lately.
ANT just beat a Curry, Green, Thompson led Warriors without Gobert or KAT. I’m not saying they’re going to win the conference or anything. I’m saying that this team is finally turning it around and putting up a lot of fight, which is very enjoyable to watch.
I think Kat is getting traded. Minnesota backed they ownself into a corner.
I think KAT makes Toronto title contenders if they don’t give up Scotty Pascal or OG.
I don’t see how the deal gets done tho. All Toronto would have to offer is FVV, Trent JR and all their picks
Minnesota can’t trade KAT for that right now. So sadly it’s a pipe dream
IMO, KAT is not worth FVV + GTJ, let alone adding Toronto draft capital to the mix. With no one to step up and fill FVV shoes, and GTJ shooting so well, I feel OG will be the carrot to land a C for the Raps plus picks. Mo Bamba + TRoss from Orlando + 2023 FRP and 2025 FRP for OG and Birch (salary matching?)
DLo for Hayward and a 1st
MIN’s best option is to stand pat for this year. In the offseason (unless KAT and Gobert find a special connection when KAT returns), let DLO walk and seek to trade KAT for a huge haul. With the right assets coming back, a quick rebuild can happen. But they, as an organization, need to think a bit differently, starting with what those assets look like. There’s more to team building than asset accumulation and pixie dust.
Gobert to the >>>>>> Nets .
Claxton >>>>>>> Gobert.
Simmons
Yeah Claxton has the DPOYs to prove it also. Dude literally has one half of a good season under his belt.
So?? He’s still better than Rudy right now, IMO. How do previous DPOYs make Gobert a better player TODAY than Claxton?
Lakers rumors
1. Lakers are eyeing Zach LaVine (Westbrook and picks)
2. Lakers like Gary Trent because of this price:
possible 2 Seconds (Lakersshowlife website)
Starters
LaVine and Trent
Davis and LeBron
IMO
Pelicans will outbid the Lakers offer because Lakers have traded Wemby to them (there is a Wemby chance)
There is zero chance the Raps take two 2nd rounders for Trent. That is just delusional to even consider that’s a possibility
The delusion that the Bulls would trade Lavine for Westbrook continues to live on…
If the C’s make any big moves the main player that they should look to trade is that big baby overrated G. Williams but only if it’s a top backup big with a yr or two remaining on their contract
Why Williams he’s crying is going to cost them a game at some point he’s a restricted FA at the end of the yr and it would be stupid to give him 15+ m when u can the same productions for a lot cheaper
This’s just all IMO except for his production and attitude
Clint Capela, John Collins and a 1st for Deandre Ayton and Jae Crowder
Trae DeJounte and DeAndre big 3 with a bunch of quality young wings/forwards Hunter Johnson Griffin to name a few. Not to mention Crowder coming over too and the veteran presence he brings to a young team. Bogdan still leading the bench unit.
Suns, Capela more of a defensive presence, Collins a upgrade over Crowder plus a good fit and a first round pick aswell.
That’s the best trade idea I’ve seen for both teams all year. The only question is how the Suns actually feel about Ayton? They matched his offer sheet, but mostly it seems it’s because they had to.
Yeah think they did it in order to lose him for nothing and this way they get something back for him.
Ayton numbers this year have again been a little underwhelming. Just under 18-10 considering in his second season he put up 18-11.5. Technically it’s his second best season but it more a story of little improvement since entering the league.
Capela is putting up 12-11.5 on 5 less shots per game. But he also has twice as many blocks and more steals. Think he suits the CP3 game style as a lob threat and defensive anchor.
As for Atlanta I think Ayton could really blossom in a new place. Think he gets a bunch more touches and get the chance to shoot more shots and put up better numbers.
Lol. Why would Suns do that? Get worse with 38yo CP3? Also Capella sucks. Giving up the best player in a deal for a guy ATL has been shopping for 3 years and some overpaid C. Lol nice one.
The Suns have a limited contention window. They clearly aren’t as good without CP3. There just aren’t any replacement PG out there that could come in and do as well. Conley would be the closest next option. CP3 could retire after his contract so they need to get pieces that balance out their team now.
@Benboy
FVV says Hello!!!
Paul likes Capela, they have an alley oop history in Houston.
Ayton and Crowder to >>>> Knicks ….
Randle, Mitch, Quickley, plus 2 picks to
>>>> Suns ….
You really hate Knicks, Mitch, when healthy, is no inferior to Ayton, would not cry about offence not going through him, Quickley will inherit Paul as pg, and then you have Randle, still Knicks best player.
That trade is like something ‘simmons>>russ’ would suggest.
What worries me is that Horford is getting older and RW3 can’t stay on the floor. Boston needs a decent 3rd center.
